Is Burglar class good ?

RattrapRattrap Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 1,599

Does any beta tester here plays higher level burglar?

Can you tell me how fun is it to play it. I personally tend to gravitate towards roguish / stealthy classes.

But how Burglar works in LOTRO is a question. Also there is a hint that this class is really solo unfriendly and frustrating ?

Is it true?

I don't know if you know this but yeah I will explain what I know even though I am not high level

For starters it is the funnest rogue type class I have ever played, and I usually hate them. This mainly due to the burglar (correct me if I am wrong here) being the only class that can start group conjunctions on demand using 2 different skills, one you gain early the other (which requires stealth) you gain at about level 24-26. Conjunctions allow you to perform fellowship skills, which you must figure out for yourself. Conjunctions can come at any random time in any group, but burglars are the only class that can begin them on demand to my knowledge.

I havn't soloed much, but the burglar is a dps/debuffer class and I seem to have not much trouble soloing stuff. I party with my friend alot who is a captain and we make a good team.

I hope that has helped slightly.

That is exactly what I meant to say

Pretty good idea actually, I was glad they made the burglar wanted in partys, and they thought of an excellent way to do it.

well, WoW rogue was both high melee dps, and stealth-assasination type. I think LOTRO has sort of split those two functions and done this:

Champion: highest melee dps, some knockdowns instead of stuns, combat-point system, heavy armor, no-stealth

Buglar: everything else a wow-rogue did + group utility, minus high-dps and stuns

I think.... anyone comment on that?

Burglar has been an amazingly fun class to play, and is very solo friendly imo. They are great additions to fellowships, always welcomed. The human burglar is also viable due to the higher damage they deal. I never cared for the rogue class in other games, but this Burglar class is definately one of the best I have played in a while. Give it a shot!  Also in PvP they are awesome.

I agree with that. Champion is the melee dps class. Burglar has much more utility. Burglar can solo fine (not great, but well enough), and adds a LOT of utility to groups. One good thing about burglars is that they are probably the least played class right now, so if you are like me, and enjoy playing less-played classes, burglar is a great choice :) They are the first 'thief' class in a long time that actually feels like a thief and not just a fighter with less armor. I played a rogue in WoW and enjoyed it, but a burglar in LotRO is totally different.

    Camring - SWTOR (Ebon Hawk)

    Kili - WoW
    Eol - Lineage 2
    Camring - SWG
    Justinian (Nimue), Camring - DAoC

I think this is pretty accurate.  I'd add however that they do have a stun, just not usable except for every 3 minutes.  This is the "exploit opening" ability, which also starts conjunctions... conjunctions being LOTRO's group "special attacks".

One thing to note.  LOTRO makes group special attacks very usable as it's easy to communicate to the group each players role in firing off the conjunction.  Essentially assign each a color and you are good to go.  Burglars have the ability to start these at will, whereas without a burglar you have to rely on them starting randomly.

Hmm.... generally don't like Rogue classes, but this Burgler sounds interesting.... will have to roll one next to see what they are all about....

If you can play the burglar to level 50 i think you will look at a lot of fun in the battlegrounds later on if you like that kind of play.

I beta tested with a Halfling Burglar. Any class is soloable in LOTRO because it's an easy game in that regard.

Burglars have some decent attacks and can also heal themselves a bit with one of them. Halfling Burglars have plenty of points to spend on attacks and I rarely ran out of them. You have to be patient playing a Burglar though, since you're using stealth for positioning and increased damage on your opening attack. It takes a lot more time moving about in stealth. Burglars have the advantage of being able to sneak past mobs they don't want to engage and can even hide in order to escape a fight gone bad sometimes in order to avoid death.
