What it is in a nutshell:
The proposed law would allow illegal immigrants to apply for temporary work permits that could last for six years. They would have to clear criminal background checks, pass an English language test and pay a $2,000 fee to qualify.
At the end of the six years, they and their families could apply for permanent resident status, and five years later for citizenship.
The bill would also allow foreign citizens to apply for low-paid jobs that Americans do not want to do from outside the country. If the worker lost his job, he would have 60 days to find a new one or return home.
Now this really is nothing more than a clever way to push amnesty for illegal immigrants and I for one will not stand for it. There are already plans for a march on Washington in April to protest against this bill and for the first time in my 31 years of life as a lazy american, I plan on getting off my ass and joining the protest to fight this.

There is no way in HELL that an immigrant looking to find work in the U.S. will be able to pay the $2000 fee to get in. Its rediculous to even conceive of such a thing. They are coming HERE to find work because they have no money.
Lame ass bill if you ask me.

What? Are you running out of room over there in the US?
To me, that sounds like a good law, but then maybe I'm wrong and it's better that these people just continue to live illegaly.
Actually, I would be interested to hear an American explain why this sort of thing makes them so angry when their country was built by immigrants, owes much of its success to its immigration policies in the past, and when most Americans have ancestors who were immigrants.
"Bring me your tired, your poor/ Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free/The wretched refuse of your teeming shore/Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me/I lift my lamp beside the golden door!" - I think if I was from the US, I'd be pretty damn proud of those words.
Edit: I'd agree with Keebs on that $2000, but aside from that, it sounds like a decent compromise.

This is not just about illegals, there is something bigger going on here and this bill is just another step to seeing it happen.
Yes I love the minute men because they seem to be the only people left who give a damn about the United States remaining a sovern nation. I bet some of you guys still think that the whole US/Candada/Mexico being combined into one nation thing and the building of a super highway that runs from Mexico all the way to Canada was just made up.
There is a reason why Bush is not doing anything about our borders eventhough we are supposedly in a war against terror.

Lame bill. More beauracracy that wont change a thing. The fact is there are too many jobs that americans do not want to do. Immigrant labor is a neccesity.
It is silly to restrict fellow humans based on immaginary lines drawn on a map.
The minute men are a group of individuals who have taken it upon themselves to act as border patrol, without the official concent of the government.
As for this new law, I think Keebs is right, there's no way that an immigrant who comes here looking for work is going to be able to pay 2000 dollars to work here...unless that 2000 dollars was payable in installments once they are already here and working. In which case I think it would be a good idea,

Illegal aliens in many cases have deductions taken from them and they never file for tax returns. So the government makes money off of illegal aliens in unclaimed tax returns. That is documented fact.
What ever happened to America being a great melting pot of all races and ethnicities?
It's also a documented fact that billions of dollars made by illegal immigrants go right back to Mexico, which is bad for our economy.
