Life after WoW ?

Would anyone consider switching from Wow to a game which has less grinding, and less item finding.  A game more bent on creating a reality with more ,different, things to do.  No one could have super advantages but PvP was very common and newbies could even join in?  One idea would be to hit the "best skill level" with out grinding or in a small amount of time.  Giving more time for in-game social matters.

WoW has some things that it lack and so does all other MMORPGs out at the market. It's impossible to create a game that doesn't lack anything. I think WoW has put togtether some nice things, sure they missed some things that could have improved the game, but overall it's a really nice game. I'm currently watching for new games at the market that will come out, looking forward to WAR.

Imo a game should focus on one part, for example PvE, and try to make that part as good as possible. WoW spent their effort on PvE and that part is really, imo. They added a PvP system which is dependant by the PvE so all players should be able to particapae in the PvP, even if you were no PvPer. It's sad that they got such a gear dependance, but that's the backlash (is that a word?) of having a PvE game.

I never bother with the grinding anyway. If that's all there is left to do in the game, I buy a new one.

Finding new items is fun. It's nice to have a character that progresses.

Do you have a new game in mind?  Or just looking for something new....

If I wanted the above then I'd play Guild Wars, which I'd guess is the not so subtly hidden subtext behind your message. Except from what I remember of my time in the game:

    - Due to being subscription free it's even more full of kids than WoW is.

    - It's completely instanced.

    - It's even easier than WoW

    - The PvP is even more repetetive.

    - The PvP is pointless unless you go seriously hard core about it and attempt to form/join one of the top PvP teams.

And although Newbies can join in with Guild Wars PvP, without the L-E-E-T skills they are likely to get their arses handed to them.

As for "in-game social matters", what is the reason to communicate with anyone in the game beyond the obvious in-game requirement to set up a PvP team? And if you want to talk about non-game social matters then you are likely to find a higher average level of maturity on MySpace.

i did long ago although i find it VERY VERY hard to find a game with less grinding then WoW. Warcraft has the least amount of grinding then any other game out there.

Grinding comes from getting items and running instances... Games should not have grinding in general, especialy when your not actualy fighting, you just click and let it ride in wow...

Guild wars was not hinted to at all, i have played it and hit the max level but there was still alot left to do and none of it made sense.  I might go back to playing it but there really is no point.  I enjoyed the early levels alot though, just noob fighting

The problem is that there really isn't an interesting alternative to WOW. I'm in the LOTR beta and it plays just like WOW. Same quest system, same battle system, same skill/training system. MMO's are either EQ clones or just don't have any worthwhile content. One game that I'm keeping an eye on is Hero's Journey. It has a unique quest system, one of the most, if not the most in depth character creation system and a unique crafting system. It's still over a year away from release but it's a game that people should keep an eye on. The most unique MMO that I've seen so far that doesn't look like a waste of time.

I'm hoping that Warhammer Online will be something like that. PvP is what gaming is all about for me, no matter what game it was, in some form PvP was there. Sometimes PvP wasn't directly against anyone, as you could have an element of PvP in single player games, such as beating your friends highest score. That's what I enjoy the most ot of gaming; competition with, or against friends.

...i agree. when it comes to everything really, it pays to specialize on one thing and leave the other stuff for the rest to deal with. case in point: Jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none versus a Specialist. sure, the Jack  would probly be able to beat SOME of the specialists, but in most cases Jack would get his average butt kicked.

World of Warcraft practically is a PvE game, even though they got PvP servers and stuff like that. now, about that gear dependency, i think Blizzard deliberately made it that way, in conjunction with having that level cap, so that no one character becomes too strong, and that even an average character can become strong with the right gear. having that level cap really helps in that aspect.
