Thousand Dollar Grab Bag

The name makes sense after you see the announcements!

Q: Where is the Mythic Respec promised to me in every patch?! 1.87B came and went and I got no respec!

A: Wince. I’m sorry – to a developer, 1.87 is the patch, not all the little subletters that often follow a version number. That was not terribly clear in the original note, and I do apologize. Here is the original note, by the way:

“With 1.85 we granted a free Mythic Respec to every character in recognition of the many changes to the game which were made over the last year.  With 1.87, we continue to move forward with class enhancements and understand that players will need to adjust accordingly. To make this process easier on our players, we are pleased to announce we have decided to grant all characters a Mythic Respec with every patch starting today with 1.87.

Q: I recently bought one of those new harps for my molvik minstrel. It had the bonus 5th slot of plus duration to spells (which is why I bought it). I saw a few armor pieces with 5th slots on them as well and picked up a couple in hopes of SCing and using them. After doing the SCing, I noticed that two out of three items fail to affect my toon. Why?

A: I can’t say for sure without the names of the items, and exactly what spellcrafting you’ve done to them. Off the top of our collective head, though, we’re wondering – have you filled all five slots? There is a known bug we’re working on where, “if you don’t fully SC an item with 5th slots, you don’t get the bonuses.” Please feel free to resubmit your question, if that’s not the case.

Q: First I noticed the man in Camelot named Martha. Since he was near the Guild of Shadows I thought perhaps he was some shady char trying out a new disguise, though the name Martha would have caused less suspicion if he'd shaved the beard and moustache.

Next I noticed an identical man in Jordheim also named Martha. Curiouser and curiouser. Immediately I went to Tir na Nog to find a suspected third Martha, and there he was.

None of these Martha's will speak to my chars. What is this Martha gambit, this invasion of the Marthas? Could there be a fourth realm, a place consisting entirely of identical men named Martha? I've heard of "A Boy Named Sue", but not three men named Martha. What do they want? Why are they in our capital cities? I for one would like to know.

A: We are big fans of diversity here in Camelot, and I went to college in the American South and therefore with a large number of women named Charlie and Bobbie and Georgie, but an invasion of bearded Marthas?

No, tragically. Says the Bearded Content Man, ”The Marthas are involved in the 'Bed Bugs' quest given out elsewhere in each capitol city. That quest is one of several introduced in the capitol cities around patch 1.80 and are available for characters level 30-50.

“As for the men named 'Martha', it's not a conspiracy, just a fantastic coincidence of happenstance. It's probably not wise to tease them about their name either as they can get quite annoyed about the fact most people consider Martha a woman's name.

“If you want to see what part the Marthas play in the grand scheme of things, you can try the quest yourself by talking to Jarnath in Tir na Nog, Marnath in Jordheim, or Jarnam in Camelot.”

Q: What is with that one lone change to animists in the last version?

A: Whoops. Our plan was to debut a number of changes in the first part of 1.88, and that one change snuck into the last chapter of 1.87. Since it was destined to go live anyway, we decided to leave it be, even if it does look a little weird, having that one change so much out of context. Sorry about that.

Q: I was told that Quick over about 250 did not provide much benefit to an SB. I am wondering if these numbers would also apply to a bezerker and savage.

A: In fact, the 250 number applies to everyone – quickness over 250 has no effect.

The room number for NY Road Trip has been changed to 1E-16, at the Javits Center. http://www.darkageofcamelot.com/roadtrip/2007/Feb_07_newyork.php What? It’s cold outside and you don’t know if you’ll know anyone, so why should you go? You should go, because you don’t need to be a Comicon attendee to get in. You should go, because I will be there along with the game’s producer. You should go because someone you killed in game recently will be there, and taunting people in person is way fun. Come on down, and enjoy some nachos.

I hear we’ve finally arrived – Dark Age of Camelot was the thousand dollar answer on Teen Jeopardy last night. Mainstream, baby.

Sorry this is short, guys, but I’ve managed to catch the winter plague and barely made it into the office this week. Today’s PSA: Wash your hands, drink lots of tea, and take a long nap until the sun comes back. See you next week.
