blacksmith anyone ?

Hi,
playing EQ2 for 1.5 years made my brain think that shamans in vanguard are able to wear chain and so i picked blacksmith. I dont think i can drop it and learn leatherworker...
Somewhere on the net i read that blacksmiths will also craft structural components for houses and boats. Ist this still true ? It would be great to be involved in the social part of the game. I guess most looted armour and weapons will be better then crafted anyways.
At the moment i am adventuring till i get my dog (wolf pet), but then i will return to the forge

Dunno about the dropping of the BS skill though, but because you can drop your harvesting skills to I guess dropping Bs should be possible. Never looked into that really.
