New to Entropia

Hello. I'm new to Entropia Universe.  I've did extensive research on it and I certainly hope it's the free sci-fi MMORPG i'm looking for.

Is there any tips anyone would like to give me?

    1. Pick as starting point Port Atlantis. New Oxford is in Amethera, which is a very hostile continent.

    2. LAG is always an issue when there are many avatars around. Gameplay gets much better when you avoid busy spots. P.Atlantis specifically is THE LAGCITY.

    3. When you start the game you have absolutely nothing except your colonist clothes. You need to make some money (PEDs they are called ingame). You can: ***  A) try to find fruit (low value), dung (next to nothing value) *** B) sweat animals (collect their lifeforce using special lifeforce technique every colonist possesses when entering EU, then sell it); this is the main activity for beginners, and although can be boring, you socialize while doing that and gain some defensive skills while doing that (and die often) *** C) deposit real money in; with, say 10 USD you can get basic setup (armor, gun, first-aid pack and ammo) and start hunting; not recommended before you have sweated some time, learned the agro range of animals, explored the continent(s) a bit, found some new teleports, etc. *** D) trade; buy cheap, sell high - the most sure way to make money, imo also the most boring *** E) just chat around.

    4. Beware of scammers. Some ppl try to upgrade your armor for PEDs (armors cannot be upgraded). Some try to pay you too little for your stuff. Look at the general chat, or prices at auction first.

    5. Do not beg. It is widely despised. It often happen some ppl give you stuff free, but better not ask it.

    6. Get a mentor. A skilled mentor, who is also online often and willing to help, is invaluable. Watch out for ppl who want you as a disciple just to get their mentor gift later on, but you will never see again. You can kick your mentor within first couple of days if he/she sucks.

    7. Be patient. (As actually in a few other mmorpgs,) progress is slow.

    8. After you got some hunting gear and besic defensive skills, you can try hunting or crafting. Not recommended in the start, they can be very expensive if you dont know where to go/you are unlucky. ----- 9. Check www.entropiaforum.com/forums for tons of info. It IS heavily moderated, and no talk about other mmorpgs is allowed, but so are many other game specific forums.

Hi, here's my 2cent on this "game".

You ask if this is the free MMORPG your looking for and I'll say, yes it's free to download and join. It's also free to log on and play as long as you only chat with others, gather sweat and find fruit.

If you plan to play and do other stuff like hunting, mining, crafting or cosmetic surgery... NO, it's not free at all.

    To do this, you need:

    • Hunting: You need a weapon and some armor. Also you would like to buy a amp to boost your damage. It also reqire ammo sold by MA.
    • Mining: You need a ore/enmatter-finder and a ore/enmatte-extractor to gather your findings. You also would like a amp on your finders. It also require probes sold by MA.
    • Crafter: You need a Bluprint book and some Bluprints. Also you would need ore and enmatter to craft items. (Weapons, Armor, Tools, Attachments and other items used in crafting the other items...) Basic BP sold by MA.
    • Cosmetics/surgery:  The proper tools and materials needed.
    • Skills, Skills, Skills, Skills, Skills: Useless skills that won't help anything unless you get loads of them, and even then it won't do anything to your success or loot you gather...

If you plan to play a "game" where you deposit money, accept change of rules and terms, have lot of lag and loads of other issues, then I suggest you read more... On top of this, you won't get to know how the paytable for loot is, so your payback is entirely in the hands of the company Mindark (MA=Greedy ).

So, I'll answer your question again : NO, this is not the free MMORPG you are looking for.

This MMORPG, or CASINO as I call it, will only require you to deposit money (loads of money) to have a any use, or fun while playing. I know, I been with them for 4 years now and regrett I ever set my foot in to their Universe.

My suggestion would be: Remove EU software from your PC ASAP.

Why? I'll make a post later in another tread.

BTW: I'm playing on another PC right now, crafting garbage items (TT stuff) to get skills and hopfully a Global or HOF.  1h 45m and already lost 100PED (10 us$), not counting the extra money I have to pay to the seller of materials I use. (TT+%) So my loss shown is only the raw value (TT) of materials.  I usually craft 12~14h a day...

(Other who play EU: Yes, I got loads of skills needed and know how to play!!! I also used to get many Globals and HOF's each day, but that was 3VU's ago...)

    TT= Trade Terminal

    PED=Currency used in EU

    TT+%=TT price+ the extra % seller want for item(s). (10Ped+120%=12Ped)

Global=You loot item(s) worth more than 50PED and it show in GLOBAL chat.

HOF=Hall Of Fame. Item(s) you loot is high enough value to be among the top 25 in HOF.

    ATH=All Time High...

Lost= Like someone else playing EU calls it: money I used in "game" (not lost, but used...  Yeah, right...)

First download the client, create a avatar and check out the game without depositing. If u still feel intrested in the game do like u would have done when u buy another game. Deposit the amount ur willing to buy a game for. Its really up to u and thats whats good. Try it and tell us what u think.

Any idiot can critizise but few idiots can critizise well or with style

Like everyone says, give it a try for yourself and then decide :D Many of these people in here are critical of it, but most likely they just didnt play efficiently or lost their asses off because they didnt know what they were doing.  You get to choose how much money you spend in the game...

Come check out Entropia Universe!!! @ http://www.entropiauniverse.com or http://entropiaforum.com - Thanks - Zippo

Strange thing when talking to those who think EU is the best "game"  to play... If anyone lost money in Eu and complain about it, it always is their own fault. We never know what we do and we don't play it the right way.

Sadly to see that they think all others are idiots who just trow their money away without knowing how to play, don't know what items to use and we allways get the suggestion not to spend money in "game"... Well, many of those players are often traders in "game" and would like to sell you stuff, they never lost money because they usually don't spend any on the part that make this a "game". You might guess why...

As a former head of a community, where I had contact with many ppl the time I played, I see that they stop playing after a while. Why?  They don't wanna play and loose money. I helped many to play efficient and still they loose money, even if they got help from others too, who did "know how to play". No matter how you play, you most likly will loose money, unless your proffession is to be a trader. Buy cheap, sell as expencive as possible. Many traders have made loads of PEDs in EU and still do. And this is often the truth about those who want others to join EU, they need ppl who are willing to deposit money and buy their expencive stuff. Loot table will also benefit from your spending during play.

Still, this dosn't make this to be the MMORPG you are looking for...

This is a hidden Casino, too bad they won that battle and got to keep running "game" like they do without a gambling license. Do some research and there is things to find...

BTW: this company is a goldmine :) you might ask what the gave their employee this Xmas...

But, like they say, Download and try it out. Read EULA. Be wery critical, don't deposit more than you can afford to loose. If you loose, leave area and try again later or in another area. Also, allways check prices on items on forums that have detailed listings of trades from auctions.

    Good luck.

BTW: MA, I don't want my 12.000 us$ back. I want to prevent others from doing the same error I did when I joined Project Entropia  (now Entropia Universe)

Well yes it's a very hard 'game'. If you just drop in great amount of money, start playing, and think "now I got good start", you are 99.999% sure to loose that all in no time. You need to give it some fairly long time to see how it plays for you. And certainly EU is not for everyone, got to have some will to think/calculate very carefully economy of everything you do, and still there is risk involved.

This isn't a hard "game" at all.

It reqire you to log on and start the fun. To have fun in EU you need to do somthing and that's when the hard part begin.

This reqire research on how to play the different proffessions right and what equipment to use... I would never adwice anyone to even spend a Ped without reading the howto's on other forums.

Like my first post shows, I played PE/EU for 4 years and I consider that to be a fairly long time. It also make it possible for me to share the experience I got with others.

I strongly warn anyone to play EU and think they will get any money back at all. Like you say, there is 99.999% chance to loose no matter what style you play.

That's probably why some of the high skilled crafters is running on low gear atm... To mention some : Ben - Aron - need I even mention Blondie...

I speak for EU a lot here I see, but I agree on that ppl must be warned. In their PR and ads MA is exaggerating the chances of profiting ingame so much that it reminds me of intentional deceit.

    Well Good luck in entropia!

Go ahead and chat with the people you meet. A lot of your questions can get answered in-game by other players. But also do the research on the forums and other websites. Check especially the sticky threads on entropiaforum.com as there is no documentation supplied by the 'vendor'. This makes the game extra interesting i think!

A good tip is to join a society thats suits you and look around see what  skill looks fun for you and then get as much info around that skill as you can.Don´t try to run before you can walk stick to your skill class.

Another good area for basic knowledge is the Guides on the Entropie site. They are quite good, actually, acting like a manual.

    Thanks for the tip.

    It's updating right now.

I think it reminds me of Star Wars a bit.

Not light-sabers and such, but that one forest planet, whats it called with the cute munchkin things.........

Actually, you missed out the whole sweat gathering side of things. You also didn't mention the fact that there are indeed many many people who have never deposited a single cent into Entropia Universe and have amassed an absolute fortune by being smart with what they do.

Entropia IS free, you have the OPTION to pay for your fun. If you have the determination and temprament you can gather enough free resources, exchange them for PED and then purchase your hunting/mining/crafting resources.

That is the key word, "option". I personally decided to make a small monthly deposit in EU, about the same you would do for other games like WOW. The amount I deposit is the amount I am willing to spend and lose for the entertainment. I manage quite nicely to make it through the month hunting and mining most of the time. Some times I have a run of bad luck and manage only 2 weeks, but then there is the option to gather sweat and fruit and spend some time exploring and socializing.

How many other games allow you to withdraw the money you have in game? The monthly subscription fee you pay to other MMORPGs is lost, you pay for the entertainment and thats it. In EU you can sell the items you loot, craft, or find and transfer the money to your RL bank account. The same goes for the skills you attain, they can also be sold for cash.

It is not an easy game and skills do not build up very fast, but thats part of the challenge.

The one thing that some of the EU haters fail to mention is that after playing for several years, accumulating items and skill, they sell out and receive a nice deposit in their RL bank accounts. After over one year and a half of playing EU, I have accumulated items and skill worth about $2000, and I usually only play about 8 hours per week, sometimes less.

Now you might say that I have depositied more than I have earned, and you you would be wrong. I have so far deposited about $800.

The point is that no matter how much you deposit, the fact that you get anything back at all makes EU unique.

    Back to the main point...

You decide how much you want to spend, if anything at all. You can achieve quite a bit without depositing anything. It is not easy and requires many hours of boring tasks, but it is free money.

Don't blame MA if you lose your money, they never asked you for any. It is your choice to make.

    Cheers
