I use the Dorm connection which is T1, the max download speed so far i found is around 2.5mb per sec.

here is the problem tho, i lag in online games. so far i tried Flyff, LastChaos, Rappelz, space cowboy, gunbound, and some server in cs1.6. and also lag in World of warcraft and Ragnarok Private servers, when everyone else is getting really good ping.

this might be the port blocking issue, anyone have any idea or program how i get throu this? i really want to play some mmorpg game, even if its crappy, btw i do not lag (300 ms) in WoW official, but got bored of that game.

someone help me please? or have name of some open beta/free game i can try out the ping?

help the poor man please. this place is my last hope

I have wondered this a lot. What is the ethernet?

My mind has changed so much. Yet I'm still acting like I'm the same.

Its a type of cable, such as rj45 (looks like a wider version of a telephone line) usually for networks.  You can try to get into the router and open up some ports but i thiks its just becouse so many people are using the connection at once.  Think of it this way, if 10 people are downloading something at once then hey are most likely using up all the bandwidth so you get lag.  Dont know if you get what im trying to say, but i dont think there is anything you can do about it, except for game when everyone else is asleep or not using the internet.

your ethernet or nic where you plug your cable in your pc to conenect to the net. If its on board it wil be where all the periphials connect that arent on a pci card. If not onboard it will be in a pci slot on your comp. If its on board you might consider trying a pci card or even a usb adapter. Onboard periphials can often be crappy.

no matter what time during the day, i would lag in game, but still have the fast download speed.

i was thinking ports got blocked?

Ok, I might know your problem. Ok, beleive it or not there are two main things with an internet connection. Speed and stability. For example I had Verizon DSL and, at least where i live, had high-ish download speed (400kbs) but awful stability. I couldn't play any game online it was so bad. I then switched to Cable internet and now I have high download speed (800kbs) and great stability. I didnt guess this at first because T1 usually is good, but I forgot about other people. Even with T1 if there are many other users its stability will weaken, even if you can still enact downloads at a high speed. Not much you can do about this except buy a NIC card

If the connection or network is unstable, how would a new network interface card help at all?  You would need a whole new connection or setup a whole new network with new router.    I guess it could be that some ports are closed but then you would have to ask whoever manages the netwrok to open those ports.

True, but you forgot that hes in a dorm room and cant do this. an NIC card would help to stabalize teh connection actually.

Thats why i said ask whoever manages your network, I would like to know how a new Network interface card in his computer would make the connection from his dorm router to its isp more stable?!?  You even said in one of your above posts that cable is more stable than dsl, and you were probably using the same NIC with both isp's but one was still more stable then the other, so i fail to see how a new network interface card would do anything.  A new NIC wont do anything except waste your money.

I had the same problem in dorms. Its not a stability issue, it's a port blocking issue. Game servers tend to use the most popular ports, therefore I lagged ass in games. I didn't fix it for games, but I just used alternate ports for IRC and Aim.

so i guess this can't be fixed? only option left is talk to the people that controls the network but don't think they will do shit for me. anyways i don't lag in eve-online but that game bores me...paid a month and i quited already.

People confuse speed with lag... and interupts all the time.

Odds are your school is a on a OC48 --- most schools (big ones) have em.....

Sometimes to much is worse then a smooth 1.5 down...

T1s speed caps are actually 1.45 up and down, so your 2.5 megs tells you it's faster... T3 or higher perse.

Run some packet loss tests from Broadbandreports.com see what it says, try some of the ideas there.

If it was pure port issues, you would not get connected at all most of the time... ( IT STILL COULD BE PORTS BLOCKED THOUGH) ---so I am betting it is lag based on use (You have one giant pipe 10,000 people are using it at the same time) -- just because you can download somthing at 2.5 megs does not mean there is no loss or lag going on during that download.   Most are in bursts anyway... with speed tests for sure.

Use speakeasy.nets speed test to see where you are or use Broadband reports one...

I have a feeling that it's normal lag or you have somthing in the settings on your box are goofy.
