Shadowbane PvP vs Dark Age of Camelot PvP

This is a hard one for me, What do you think? I personally love them both...

Dark Age of Camelot

Playing a stealth type class and just murdering people was great, everyone needs a thidranki twink .

Darkness Falls was awesome, the raid to get Darkness Falls is even better!

The siege warfare system in this game was great, althought had its bugs

Realm vs Realm is a great idea, I used to play Mythic's Darkness Falls: The Crusade, an old text based Realm vs Realm. I had faith in Mythic releasing Dark age of Camelot after playing that game.

Midgard Rules!

Shadowbane

Although im still pretty new to this game seems pvp started for the good or bad.

Baning is great, taking over someone else's city, they paid tons of money for, or defending your own!

This game has an awesome siege warfare system too.

Tracking someone down not expecting it and BAM! free loot! and good xp if lvl is green or above.

Running around as a lvl 20 and lvl 75's killing  you, sucks pretty bad.

This is an open disscusion if you would like to add anything, please feel free too.

Shadowbane left open the possibility for megaguilds to directly control every city on every continent and every scrap of the needed resources for a strong guild. It happened, and is still happening.

I for one don't drool over the choice of either joining the ultrapowerful guild everyone else is joining, or joining the biting fly guilds that get crushed mercilessly into the ground every time they move.

No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main. any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.

Both them games are old and dead, right now the only fantasy PVP option is WOW.

Which really shows how sad the PvP situation in MMORPGs is, really. :(

I voted for Shadowbane. Of the modern games, the best PvP (although match-based) goes to Guild Wars.

This was a vote to see which game had the better pvp, and you make this statement.. This wasn't a vote to see where all the wagon jumpers are.

PvP and RvR are two different things in my opinion, comparing them doesn't make too much sense. I'll comment anyways though, while I haven't played Shadowbane, I have played DAoC and it has the greatest PvP system to date and is still the best in the industry sadly. Shadowbane may have great PvP as well but it just can't compete with DAoC's Pre-ToA RvR/PvP.

Do you think it's really a fair comparison if you haven't played both games?

I don't consider it fair, but Shadowbane never went anywhere. if the PvP was infact better then DAoC's PvP surely it would have at least got off the ground instead of just rolling over and dieing. This is of course just my opinion.

Its hard to compare...both games offer a different PvP experience, and I enjoyed them both.  Now, from a total gaming experience, I prefer DAOC to SB....

I've played both games and I have to say Shadowbane's clunky, outdated controls ruin the PvP. Click to move just doesn't cut it these days, and makes for a very unenjoyable experience.

I voted for DAoC because even though its playerbase isn't what it used to be, nothing beats rushing an outpost with a bunch of other guys with seige equipment.

But you're comparing 2 really old games. As stated above, the best Fantasy PvP experience out there has to be WoW. The controls are a cut above the two games you've mentioned, along with the engine, controls, effects, etc.

If you like arena PvP, GW is next on the list of fantasy-based games.

And if you don't care whether its fantasy or futuristic, AO has a pretty good, cut throat PvP system.

That is true. Comparing the games in their entireties, Shadowbane, IMO, was a 'B' grade game. There were too many technical issues whereas DAoC ran quite well. However conceptually the PvP was better in Shadowbane because of the ability to build and attack cities instead of just capturing relics.

While the relic raids where fun I do agree that they got old and would have been so much fun to attack a main city. However Mythic is going in that direction with Warhammer, I'm guessing people who prefer Shaodwbanes PvP will like that.

Aside from the open PvP and building your own cities what made Shadowbane for me was the disciplines and different combos you could make out of race/class/professions/disciplines/runes that made the game.   Having different pathes to get a powerful PvP character was great.  That level of customization has not been seen in a game since.  Now your mage in the same armor with the same spell set, with only slightly differing traits. . . but pretty much the same game play/stratigery as 8 million of your closest friends.

If SB2 or some game with that level of custimization of game play comes out I am in!

DAoC is much more of a complete game, but based solely on PvP Shadowbane wins hands-down.

SB still has PvP features no other game offers that make it such a personal experience. You have time and energy vested directly into what you own and others are trying to destroy.

As far as join the big guy or die? that is crap. I played on the Mourning server years ago and was an immensely oproud member of Morloch's Vengeance. We were Mourning! We conquered all of Ice Isle and had many outposts scattered across the land. We destroyed or absorbed every evil and chaos guild over the course of several months, which turned out to be our largest achievement and our largest mistake all rolled into one. We were left as THE enemy... THE bad guy. After a few months of us having 'free reign' of the server the rest of the guilds, the good guys, banded together with one goal in mind... our destruction. We were raided and attacked several times per day for 6 months! Our capitol city, Morkessel, withstood a 6 hour siege with us outnumbered 3 to 1, but finally fell. That not only spelled our obvious destruction, but our inner destruction as well. many members, including myself, simply quit the game after that. The things we'd worked day and night on for over a year were finally vanquished. It just seemed the right time to move on. Those that stayed formed a new, entirely different type of guild and many continue to play to this day.

I will forever remember my druid, Morloch's Vengeance, Mourning and Shadowbane with nothing but fondness.

If they'd simply make a SB2 with an actual game included with the PvP dynamics of the original I'd be there in a heartbeat and I bet a million others would be as well. Until then... For Morloch!
