How many active subscribers?

MorterionMorterion Member Posts: 2
I would like to know how many active subscribers does LA2 have in Europe and the USA. Or, if there is no such information, what is the average online on average server (not at the peak hours). Thank you.

It's easier to give you the first bit of info as none of us are privy to how many people are logged in at any given time.

According to NC Soft's year end report they indicated that we had about 90,000 in the U.S. and Europe. Korean was someting in the 224,000 or so...

Well, that's a tough one. I realize that WoW has a large number of players but keep in mind that the numbers that I gave you are based upon financial reports based on subscriptions.

Of course WoW has more players but I haven't yet seen how they are defining those players. Are they subscriptions, toons made, overall since they game came out?

Still, WoW does have more players.

However, having said that, They are completely different games and aim to do comepletely different things. They just can't be compared fairly if one tries to compare them as trying to achieve the same goals.

    edit: ok I found it:

    World of Warcraft's Subscriber Definition

World of Warcraft subscribers include individuals who have paid a subscription fee or have an active prepaid card to play World of Warcraft, as well as those who have purchased the game and are within their free month of access. Internet Game Room players who have accessed the game over the last thirty days are also counted as subscribers. The above definition excludes all players under free promotional subscriptions, expired or cancelled subscriptions, and expired prepaid cards. Subscribers in licensees' territories are defined along the same rules.

So there you have it. They are also counting players in Game rooms. I'm not so sure the numbers I gave you regarding L2 subscribers are counting game room players as I think (and I'd have to check.. or someone else can) they count game room players differently.

    Hey Sovrath,

I thought it was higher according to that press release in Nov. You know L2 went over 100k in NA....I would expect L2 pops to be even higher then that now as since that time they have had a free trial.

In Korea what number are you guys talking about specificallY? L2 still has something like 1.4 million subs.

    Here is the article

    http://www.lineage2.com/news/news.html

remember this was writen before any free trial was availible. The first time in almost 3 years they ever really had one open to the public.

OP, isn't 8 million a big impressive number?  What matters is this, servers are full in a game. Which they are in L2. L2 has 10 servers with over 100k people playing..its very crowded.

What are you looking for in a game besides the total number of subs? Most MMOs have under 150k subscribers

    www.mmochart.com

The majority of WoW's epeen 8 millions subs are not even in the U.S.

    Yeah, I saw that article.

But if you look at the (4th quarterly) report they give subscription numbers. Now again, that is just subscription. Since L2 is played quite a bit in game rooms I believe that total players are much higher.

I'll see if I can find the quarterly report.

edit: ok here is my post on the main forums with the 2006 4th quarter report. you will have to scroll to my top post and click on the link I provided. It will download the report from their site. There anyone can have a better idea as to how they are reporting subscriptions, players, etc. I think I made a mistake and was quoting Korean concurrent users. Still, if I'm reading the data correctly they don't have 4 million "current' subscribers. Nothing to worry about as they still seem to have a heck of a lot of subscribers.

I hate to point this out bro,

That link in you thread is the Q2 report. (Aug 4, 2006)  The guy I use to get these from isn't watching NCSoft anymore and I haven't taken the time to look for them myself.

    EDIT

Also, Q4 is just ending like right now. I don't think they will have the numbers for Q4 out for at least a month or so, give or take.

  • TorakTorak Member Posts: 4,905

If you are into reading this type of stuff, here is a quarterly report feom Q3. All in all things are looking very very good for NCSoft. (Q3 is the most recent report)

    http://www.ncsoft.com/eng/nccompany/ir_data_report01.asp

Look at the comparison to SOE and LA, lol, its a joke in the  "2006 Analyst Day"....NCSoft is going to be around a very long time. Vivindi is the only company that beats NCSoft the rest trail so far behind its not funny. It just goes to show where the market is really moving. You cant listen to what is posted on these troll boards. Vivindi is doing better because of WoW and that game is mainly Asians playing it....go figure.

    oops!then it's Q2. didn't remember which one.

Yeah, NC is going to be around for a long time. They are very much  a major player. And, quite frankly, L2 is going to be around for a while. Whether or not L3 takes a lot of its subscriber base is yet to be seen.

Also remember WoW may have millions of players, but they also have thousands of servers. In comparison to the number of players you will actually be playing with (on your server), you probally won't notice a difference. What you will notice is in L2 you gain actual reputation because how community driven the game is.

But yes, in NA and EU there is approx 100,000 ACTIVE accounts. If split among the 10 servers evenly there is 10,000 active accounts on each server. Granted there isn't an even split. Some will have 12k, some will have 6k, some will have 10k, you get my point?

If you are worried about population, I will tell you that last siege weekend there was over 400 people on the seige field. Not eveyone that plays this game can or does go to sieges.400 people fighting in one place is amazing.

I will admit that new player populations are low. Mainly due to the speed you can get threw the first few levels and it isn't a new game with TONS of marketing to draw in over 100 people a day. It will seem kinda dead (which is ok cause it lets you get use to the game and get a feel for your character and figure out stuff) until you hit level 30 and visit the town of Dion which is (I am pretty sure) the first town that will be pretty lively.

Well WoW does have millions of players, but they do not have thousands of servers; not even close to "thousands".  And trust me players on servers know each other and gain reputation among alliance and horde alike. It's jsut as community based... if not more community based then L2. Play a game before you state facts.
  • JukanJukan Member UncommonPosts: 325
Sorry, it was figurative speech. I don't know the exact number of WoW servers around the whole world. So I stated thousands to mean many. I figured people would realize that without taking it literally, because obviously there isn't actually thousands.

Have you played L2? Because if you have, and actually played long enough to get into a factor clan you would see my point. I have played WoW, but it wasn't long. Not because the game was bad, because it does have tons of interesting features. I just didn't enjoy the game as much as L2, maybe it was the graphics, or the pvp (even though pvp isn't bad, just not my style) and L2 I was more satisfied with when it came down to it.

What I am saying though, is WoW has more than 10 North American and European servers. Actual people in your world/server is going to be plentiful. Although WoW has an overall larger player base, it doesn't really matter to the player since you can't play with ALL those people. See what I was trying to say?

And no, sorry I definatly can't agree with you on saying that WoW is just as or more community based than L2. Because that is utter bull crap. Play L2, or play it a little longer than you did, and you will see for yourself.

BTW welcome to the MMORPG forums.

To answer your question, yes i played Lineage 2 for about 7 months and quit, mainly because a leveled an elven elder to 45 and thought, wow i picked the wrong class! (i quit the day chronicles 2 came out) Over all WoW and L2 are great games but WoW got way too addictive and i quit that, and I am currently thinking about rejoining L2 and rolling a SA (I hear it's easier to lvl now, which is also why i quit.)

EDIT: And yes I guess I did jump to conclusions, L2 has a way lower server pop and therefor is much easier to build a reputation; but don't get me wrong, it is easy to build a rep on a WoW server, just not as easy as L2.

Thank you for the welcoming note!

Actually no, from what I understand, Lineage 2 servers hold a lot more people per server than WoW.

And you base that on what?  A belief, faith, or conviction?  or is it loyalty, affection, or delusion?  Either way it sounds made up.

Actually Rha is right in way. I have played both games and because L2 has absolutely no instancing it can seem like the L2 Servers are more crowded. Whether or not they actually are is anybodies guess because of the instancing in WoW. I personally quit WoW and GW because of the instancing among other reasons but I still play L2. Just my 2 cents.
