Guild Wars...SHOULD I GET IT???

SoulferSoulfer Member Posts: 29

Now my computer is the laggy type. It lags in Maplestory it lags in Flyff(alot) I'm asking this. Does this game have lag issues? I currently live in Australia with optus DSL cabel ( I have no idea what im talking about, Im not the tech type guy) so far this game seems amusing to me. But should I get it? I don't wanna spend heck of alot of clams on something unplayable. And if anyone knows...  how much is the game + all the expansion packs in AUSTRALIAN dollars? Someone help me out here pl0x.

Honestly? This game is generally very lag friendly. If you're unsure, I'd get the cheapest one you can find or see if you can get ahold of a trial key. But, the game was intended to run on a 56k connection, so lag shouldn't be a problem with any kind of DSL connection.

Thanks for all the helpful people that voted on the poll of my thread. Happy to find No-one voted IT WASTED MY MONEY  I found out my system was:

Intel (R) Pentinum 4 (R) (or other way around lol)

    1.60 GHz

    256 RAM

    Optus Speedstream Ethernet

    Windows XP proffesional.

For some reason my computer lags on ALL MMORPGs no matter what they are. (Flyff (ALOT NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO PLAY) Maplestory(FREQUENTLY) Regnum Online Beta (IMPOSSIBLE TO PLAY) Last Chaos Beta (CANT CREATE A CHARACTER AFTER TITLE SCREEN BECAUSE IT KEEPS POPPING UP WITH TIME OUT) However it has EXCELLENT performance with Runescape WHICH JUST HAPPENS TO BE MY LEAST FAVOURITE GAME. So yeah... I'm kinda not exactly sure. However if someone could send me a trial just for 1 or 2 days that would be so awesome and nice of them .

    Purchasing question:

Where can I get it in Australia? I'm thinking EB games would be a good place but I havent checked yet (maybe i'll get it this weekend if it's good). Also how much would the main game + all the expansions cost in Australian $ if anyone knows?

    Thanks for ya help guys

You nead ATLEAST 2^ ghz and ATLEAST 500Ram to run it WITHOUT the lag, and i guess thats the same for the free mmos.

So dont buy it until you upgraded your comp

EDIT: There are no expansions. All the games are stand-alone games.

GW:Factions has it own lands, quests, citys and so on

and so do GW:P and GW:N

The stand alone games just add new and more content.

It's a great game. I find it doesn't hold my attention as long as I would like an mmorpg to do so. Still I get a good couple of months out of each of them and it's worth my $$. Also it's because it's so fun that when I play I play nonstop. As far as lag... rarely. As far as buying it.. start with Nightfall and then if you like it you can pick up the others as it doesn't require the others to play.

Hey hey ho so I don't have the requirements you said to play it without lag at all do I have enough to play reasonably until I get a new computer? Also if I get the game on my current laptop can I use the disc again on my new computer to install it or do I have to buy it again?  Id appreciate if som1 would send me a trail thing on my email

I think you play reasonably with you pentium as long as you are not in a crowded server. And you can always install guild wars on another computer as long as you use the same account password.

Alright I found the download now I need a trail key lol. I'm guesssing its alot to ask for... But i'm so desperate to see if i've actually found an mmorpg I can enjoy without too much lag  anyways a trail period will really help my decision whether to get it or not I'm  a little bit worried about my poll with 20% or something saying lag cause them to die etc etc. ..

I'd really appreciate it if anyone could send me a trail key for any of the GW games by email ([email protected] )I've had that email adress since I was 8 lol.

I have sent you a trial key so check your e-mail box, if you dont get it then i must have sent it to a wrong address and if none of them work means that i have typed the number incorrectly. So tough luck to you my friend.

GW is a good game with the best graphics out there. the problem for me is that it is not a persistant world. It is completely instanced except for towns. unfortunately, what happens in this game is that you join a group, be it pug or guildies and you just follow the person who has run the quest and play back up. It all ends up playing followe the leader.

It's a beautifull game , but I have no motivation to keep playing. Crafting is pretty much , nill. I just have no goals in this game.

I'd actually have to agree with Ugo...   GW has from an explorer's PoV, always felt like a long winding maze with only 2 possible outcomes... either finish it, or stop at some point and give up.  There is no branching off or bypassing of the tedious parts if you actually want your character to experience some type of progreession. ...ESPECIALLY in Nightfall where they instituted "Gated Content" which IMO was the biggest mistake they've made to date.   There's no side streets,  trying to find your niche in the GW world is like camping on the Freeway.   ...We now know that their response to this, is to claim that GW is it's own genre and that they're now putting PvP as the main purpose of the game, but I think those are cop-outs when you take into consideration that they've made 3 expansions now and have SURELY had enough money to include more expansive content than we've seen so far.   And then in-game there's parts of the "Maze" that were never even finished:  Crafting materials that aren't used for anything, Drops and items that operate on disjointed component systems from one game to the next, components that won't combine, obsolete powers, whole maps that serve no purpose and house no quests.

I'm currently stuck in Vabbi with 6 or 7 super-difficult quests/missions in the way before I can get to the Mouth of Torment where my next real Skills/Spells are located.   ...There's no where else for me to "Cap" them.   I tried just walking there, but guess what was at the Bone Palace for no apparent reason?... that's right, a tiny little gate made out of sticks.   I crept right around the Sulfur areas after reading clues in a nearby town that there was a secret path that would take me beyond them... and there was...  but even when I get there, here's this crappy little gate standing between me, and the next set of powers that I NEED in order to complete those other misisons/quests that are in my way.   Talk about a bullshit catch22...

I'm sure you have been misreading the map cos my sis has blasted through every mission leading to level 20 and counting (except if you are talking about prophecies).

WTF are you talking about?  I hit 20 roughly 1/4 of the way through this Campaign... that was like 20 quests and half a dozen missions ago.     Plz tell me just what in the hell your sister doing the newby content quickly has to do with me complaining about the post-20 gated content and layout of the campaign?

so much bs ... you know nightfall was made for the pve lovers ... you fail in your analogie

  • illeriller Member UncommonPosts: 518
So then maybe you're the one who can explain to me why almost every Dev post and State of Game has focussed purely on GVG and Arena Team builds/Strats, etc?  ...All the power changes are PvP rationalized as well.  Only a handful of changes address quest balance as most are just bug fixes.  ...Very few AI fixes for that matter which is certainly a PvE bug....  No they apparently changed the AI for NPC's in the actual Arena events first and foremost before addressing those in PvE.   ....feel free to color me totally confused if that's not the case tho

  • exanimoexanimo Member UncommonPosts: 1,301

the pve vs pvp comunity stuff is for people that have nothing to drama about

for sure you didnt see me complain about the devs focusing more on pve or pvp
becose i play both and i love both and i also think anet works on both as good as they can

pvp as to be the ultimate chalange , humans always win agaist computers

only human vs human is unpredicteble.

i agree 9 hours doing a quest is something amazing , but can you compare with world wide PvP ? i dont think so

  • illeriller Member UncommonPosts: 518
Well don't start making assumptions, one of the main reasons I left my last game was b/c its developers STOPPED supporting the PvP in it.   ...I just like making note of the Policies and Politics that Developers use to justify the all-too-common UnderAchiever model that so many of them seem to subscribe to these days.
  • exanimoexanimo Member UncommonPosts: 1,301

so i dont see what is the problem about the guildwars main page always talk more about GVG then anything else , its obvius for me.
GvG is where the ultra elite masters play .. i think its fair they have more attention then the solo farmers or the chests runners.
and i think the pve comunity that cares about the lore makes contact with the devs using the non official sites. thats how they comunicate.
the official page is just a portal for new comers imo.
offcorse also the basic info of whats going on.
