Entropia Universe: Entropia Pops Virtual Cork for 2007

Entropia Universe brings in 2007 with some virtual booze. Entropia is offering users the chance to celebrate New Year's Eve with virtual champange bottles.

LOS ANGELES, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- December 28, 2006 -- This New Year's
Eve, Entropia Universe users will be ringing in 2007 with a pop of the
cork, a first in the virtual universe. Sjoeblom Winery distributed a
limited number of virtual "champagne" bottles to Entropia members on
December 19, supplying them for the upcoming holiday. High demand for the
"champagne" has raised the virtual bottles' trading value to over $15 per
bottle.

The partnership marks a first in representation of wine sponsorship in a
virtual world. The Sjoeblom-labeled bottles exemplify the commitment that
Entropia Universe has to its users in creating the most realistic virtual
experience in a massive online universe. Entropia's real cash economy
provides a medium to freely move currency between the physical world and
the virtual world with a fixed exchange rate.
With inhabitants from all over the globe, Entropia Universe looks forward
to celebrating the New Year for a full 24 hours. At the stroke of every
midnight, Entropia avatars will be able to pop the cork on their bottles
and enjoy the New Year's festivities.

"Entropia Universe continues its tradition of bringing tremendous
diversity and functionality to the virtual world," said John Bates. "The
fact that virtual champagne bottles are selling for more than $15 speaks
to the importance and connection that Entropia inhabitants feel for this
alternate universe. We thank Sjoeblom for their vision in working with us, as well."

This is a game I have been watching for a while, and I think these guys have it right. Instead of making it against the EULA to purchase the virtual for the real, why not make it safe? I have not played the game, so I dont know if it is a necessity to use real money for virtual, but at least here your protected and are not as likely to be scammed.

Like I said I have not played it and have only been following the game for a while.

    Couldnt agree with you more.

Its not just the protected aspect but in this 1 a smart player can actually make real money. If thats not enough i beleive they have distributed a form of debit card to its populace for easy access to its virtual economy.

If there ever was a perfect example of a cutting edge mmo this is the 1.

There are a lot of people who put this game down as a bad business model.Just remember you cant truly be succesful without risk.

    What is your physical limit?

  • Wow, its been a while since I have touched PE, but consider this everyone who is thinking about getting into it. If virtual booze costs 15 bucks a bottle, how much do you think your virtual gun and virtual bullets are going to cost you?

  • SenuvenSenuven Member Posts: 51

True, if it costs 15 bucks for a bottle of whatever, that means people are paying for it. It is up to you to be the one selling or buying. It is a choice. If it isnt for you then dont so to speak.

The point being made is that people can make that choice, and the environment is safe for them to do that.

Hmm..It was along time since i quit playing PE, all I can say is that this game uses the same "lure" that the lotteries do to "hold" on to their players..

All the time when you are playing you will here worldwide broadcasts how much this and that player wins, just so that you will get the feel that "if i spend more" ill be next to win...And sure, eventually you will win. In that there is no hoax..Even thou it cost more and more to actually WIN something..

But, unfortunatly this is the "rich" mans game, If you have the money you can buy yourself to success with realword cash, and this currupts the market in game as whole and makes it almost impossible for the ones with less cash to succeed due to crazy pricing for your virtual stuff, like the 15$ champagne bottle for example. They should give this to the dedicated players, It's New Year !! But no..

And the game !! How is it.? .Well If you want an intruiging MMO with lots of quests and adventure, well forget it..This game has none of this, part from a couple of yearly money sucking events..

Othervise its a rather basic very ugly SCI-FI MMO that looks about the same as old Acherons Call once did..

I played this for awhile back when it was Preject Entropia. I started the 420 Explorers and dumped alittle over 100 bucks into the game. When you hunt.... you spend more on bullets than you gain in loot, when you mine you're equipment breaks down at a cost rate that is higher than what you gain. A money sink? Big time. There are ways a suppose to make some money but you need a big investment to do so, Or huge amonts of time and a spread sheet to keep track of expenditures and resources.  I met some great people in the game and saw some pretty creative landscapes... but in the end I just couldnt afford it.

Those facts I did not know, as I have never played. They make it sound like it is a nice economy mixed with real world funds. Doesnt sound like the case if what was said about spending more in game to hunt than the rewards. Thanks for the tips.

This game really does have a varied effect on different people. I, for one, think this is the casual gamers game rather than the rich mans game. I play.... I hunt with blades and guns. I gather "sweat" thats in pretty good demand and always good to sell for the extra dollar or two. I actually love this game. I spend most of my time working and don't get to play games very often, Entropia Universe is perfect for you if you're like me. I've been playing for 2 or 3 months and have only spent $10.00 on the game, and still have 50.00 PED <$5.00 USD> left on my virtual debit card. At any time you can withdraw the virtual money back into your Real Life account. So I guess it all depends on how much time you want to put into it. Compared to the $15 dollar per month MMO's that flood the market, Entropia universe is only costing me around $5.

I recommend this game... but like I said, opinions will vary. But those of you looking to make "a quick buck" just remember you're going to have to spend a lot on your character beforehand. Yes, I said a lot. Casual Gamers I welcome you.

Well, a lot of comments from people that have never played and have 'heared' a lot of things. Nice they share their thoughts with us...

But I play for 2 years now.And I like it. YeaYea, come on, give some nice comments on that...

But as already sayed the game can be as expensive as you wish yourselves. I have played some other MMO's in the mean time as well. Those cost much, even if you don't play... Here you can go on vacation in the summer, and when you come back the only thing that has changed is that some bug have been solved, or the gui improved.

And yes, you CAN drain a lot of money, but open all windows in your house and pump up the heating, and you are doing the same... For both the rule is valid: it is your decision. And for both it is correct: to have some fun (or heat in case of your house), expect to have to pay a bit. In EU at least there is a option to play for a low fee (or even free). And some are lucky (or saw the oppertunities, took the risk and initialy payed big) and now are making some money. I'm not one of those  however...

Hey hey, stop 'watchin' this game and move on. Let me summarize it for you:

It's an online casino where you have many games that all cost you money but you are unsure of the rules or even if there is a possibility that you will win at all.

Only sure thing is that you will loose, sooner or later, just like with every gamble.

THIS IS NOT A GAME, IT'S ONLINE GAMBLING PLATFORM!!!

Get it now? Now move on and play some games that are acctually fun.

No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.

When you assign in-game money a real-life value, you're no longer playing a game. You're now playing the virtual stock market.

This is also the reason why the United States Department of Taxation is considering levying taxes on in-game sales/purchases. Game money should NEVER be the same as real money.

My first introduction to the game came from a story on MSN about someone who paid (forgive me if I am wrong on the amount) 25,000 dollars for an in game island, which he can now charge people to hunt at.

That story came out a long time ago, and since then I have been looking at the game from a distance. I dont believe in spending real life money inside the virtual world (no more than the P2P fee) but for those that do, and if I ever did, I would think the set up for Entropia is the safest way to do it.

SO many people in MMORPG's have been ripped off from buying virtual items and characters. If the gaming world made it safe, beyond saying dont do that, it would probably make alot more money. If you spend money in Entropia, doesnt it go through their accounts first onto the debit card? Every dollar that is in there I am sure makes interest.

It is good to hear all of the feed back on this.

about $1.25 (depending on market) - Hunting can make you 3-4x as much as that (As a newbie stage, tons more as a vetern when developing your skills)

very profitable if you are smart and know where to hunt.

I believe it was more like 50,000 something, wish I could find the story but 25k is low.

Also to many of those that play seriously, view this game as an "interactive" stock market. Spending your whole pay check in the game is "investing" in a whole new lifestyle and with this comes responsibility on the use of this money to furthur better yourself and your income. It's not an mmorpg for the "kids", this is clearly designed for the "working man/women" of a higher age count. You can make thousands, by spending only hundreds, but you must find a way to earn from the players, not the game's host. This is a huge misconception and can lead to your "investment" turning into vaper.

Well anyway, there's my two cents and 1/2.

So for a casual gamer, would people who PLAY the game currently or recently be able to say it is a good idea or not??

It is a very very valid point that you must be responsible. Just like you dont take your rent to the black jack table, or take your down payment for a new house and drop it on a stock you know nothing about. I think I may have the number wrong, but I do know that the person spent alot of money (it might have been a currency conversion from AUS to US dollars also).

It seems that if a person only spends their liquid assets, comes up with a way to make money from the player base, they can turn hundreds in to thousands. And like the point I made before Entropia makes it safe to do so. I am not sure if scammers have found a way around it, but it seems like it would be something stomped on so fast that it wouldnt be worth a scammers time.

Thanks for all the informative posts.

The time as a starter player in PE can be a brutal experience, and this is releted to the nature of the game and was one of the reasons I quit..People were truly super ego in this game, and It's really more of a singleplayer game than a MMO, because no one really wants to share anything with you, not even if you are in a guild..

Ill try to explain, as everything you do is linked to "real" money it tends to give it's population a very rude behavior, sure everyone really hates a beggar but in PE everyone hates a beggar 10x as much..

There is vitually nil ways to start this game without transfers(It can be done) but If you arent loaded with cash(transfers) and suspect that you will be greeted with open arms by it's current community to help you out with some basic stuff, well they won't unless they are ultra friendly and you will most likly be spit upon instead..

If you know  that you can play with Intelligence, and really control your transfers, and If you have a sence for doing good buisness(trade with other players), the thing that you can make good deals within PE is the auktion/broker/trade system where you buy and sell items...If you are lucky and get a good find(loot) HOF(Hall of Fame loot broadcast) and you invest these cash in some good items that are fairly cheap at the moment you may be able to sell it at a higher rate later, but this takes guts, but is the best way of earning real money in PE..So, in others words, the richer you are in real life the bigger your chance of success in PE, some say this only reflects real life and sure I agree, but as a gameworld it sucks because it has to much influence on the players as a whole..There should be an even ground or terms for alll players and this is not the case with PE..

All other ways is just related to pure luck...and you definatly have to make some huge deposits to even get lucky and then some..

And yes, the game seems very "bulletproof" in a scammer point(and really is), but unfortunatly this takes away from PE being upgraded with new things hence they need to test every new thing ultra carefully..Dont be surprised if there is only 1-3 new things a year happening...

Hopefully this will answer some of your questions..

You want a solid amount of money to deposit in to start, otherwise like the nice "read emails and get paid" crap comes into play. What I mean is it will be very hard and take a long long time to get anywhere in the game with no deposit. You have to "sweat" an animal and collect thousands of it to sell to the players, in a hard worked day you may get 10k sweat, this is only worth 10PED($1) and thus you hardly can get started. Smart investments over impluse buying, buying better then the standard weapons/armor in the start is a waste of cash and you will never make that back. You won't have the funds to support the repair/ammo costs.

The best thing to do is start out small and learn the game before you jump in, make a small deposit of $10(100PED sometimes less depending on exchange rate) with this you can get basic armor/weapons and minning supplies. Start hunting and minning you will gain amounts of PED with the items you collect that will more then likely be used to buy more stuff or upgrade, so it would seem your $10 investment is wasted, but it is not. The skills you earn as you do these activites are worth money also, keep building up these skills over months-years to get anywhere in the "big game". Like I said above though, if you want anytime of income you need to find a unique way to get money from the players not the game, minning is one of the most popular ways to do this.

Slowly evolve with the game and have fun with it, even though your money is involved no reason not to have fun =). But do be careful I've heard of stories of people losing thousands while crafting something just because they forgot one thing.

I cant seem to find the game in any stores. Does anyone have ideas where one would purchase?

What does the first day of a PE noob go like? Obviously if you put your real dollars into it, you shouldnt expect any back or need any back for that matter, so a ten dollar drop wouldnt be made if I didnt have ten bucks to spare. Are their different zones or servers?

You mentioned mining, and I cant help but relate it to other MMORPG games where you can mine products to craft better ones etc. Is there fighting or pvp or territory type battles?

All the information here is a great help, and I truly appreciate it.

You download PE from their webpage and the client is "free"

Furthermore there is no servers just "one" universe or world..

Yes, there is "zones" that makes you target for PvP as you enter them, but you will be warned as you enter zone border..

And yes there is also territorial disputes from time to time regarding player controlled areas..

    Good luck

This is a great place for "noob" information http://www.entropiaforum.com/

I suggest reading the guides of hunting and minning and getting "in touch" with that area. Many players post their ways of how they made it to the "big game". It all takes time, don't expect to be making any kind of profit right away, you're lucky if you stay even. Good luck to you and your EU experience.
