SB's population today and its future.

Im thinking of playing Shadowbane again for a while i was just hoping someone could tell me how the population is these days, it used to be bad before it went free, there wasnt much PvP left in the game and PVP is what this game does best by far.

Now this is just a food for thought question, how long do you think SB will be around for now, personally with it going free i think it will have an extended life now, although i have no clue how its funded these days (anyone know ?).

Thanks for any answers.

Garrik

Its still going fine.  The only problem is that if you want to PvP in sieges and stuff you need to be in a guild and people are very uptight about who gets in their guild and dont like noobs.  the pop after it went free seemed to jump up a bit.  Dont get me wrong this game was crack for me from beta up to a few months ago when i quit.  To answer q2 its the fact that UBI Soft still runs the servers for them.  UBI Soft can do it since they prolly have a lot of extra serveres not being used from some old game they made.

This is  a problem I see in any MMO I've played. It's a form of elitism that I can't say I understand..

People forget where they came from and forget that they were once in the same position as the "noob" they're blowing off, instead of offering them some kind of help... giving them pointers, etc; as though it's the new players' fault that they don't know the game inside-out from the moment they roll their first toon.

MMO populations are both their greatest strength and weakness. It's their strength because of the comeraderie and the competition.. but it's the worst because of  the egos, elitism and generally crappy attitudes that some people develop over time.

As I said before.. they forget where they came from.

As I said before.. they forget where they came from. Well, with a game like Shadowbane, there is something to be said for getting to know a person reasonably well before inviting them into your guild - constant warfare would make anyone suspicious of strangers as potential spies or traitors.

That said, I would hope there are some guilds at least that make an effort to get to know potential new members, rather than just avoiding them altogether.
