Dual Channel RAM

What's the difference between Dual Channel RAM and single channel?  Can you still use single channel RAM on a dual channel MoBo?  I've never really understood the difference, any insight would help ;)

    lol, dual channel only means that you can have two sticks of the same value in it, and what that means is that u have two 512 sticks instead of 1 gig stick. This takes the load off from one stick, and puts it on two. All dual channel support means that it allows this. And yes you can use "single channel" on a dual channel board.

    dual channel also allows you to run more programs
