I have already asked this on another forum and didn't get a lot of specfiics but from what I'm hearing- and this could be true or false- there will be no ingame map. The chat will be limited to a certain range. and the shocker to me, there will be no auction house only NPC vendors. What has anyone else heard or know?

That all of what you heard is wrong. If you look at several of the videos posted on the official site, it shows in game maps. I don't think there is a mini map though.
In game chat from what I read, has sevral channels, includeing Worldsay, regional, and shout, and say, like EQ.
The are not supposed to be any in game auction halls, or bazzars. From what I read in the forums on the official Vanguard forums is that there will be a chat called auction. So most likely it will be like EQ where everyone will pretty much congregate to one zone to auction stuff. At this time I am not sure if auction is regional, or worldwide. I assume regional.
And there will be player owned houses, that you will be able to hire NPC merchants to sit in and sell your wares.
Not so nice guy!
i think their reasoning behind not having a auction house/bazaar is they want people to interact with act with each other instead of having a in-game feature that does it for you.
not sure about the mini-map, maybe they feel it will be less immersive having a map showing you where you are going at all times?
Baphamet <strange name, makes me curious, was that one of the summoned aids in final fantasy?> I think has a good idea on why no mini map, also it may just not be implemented yet. I just haven't seen anything suggesting there will be one.
Even the big map seems to lack a lot of details, mainly just to give you an idea of hwere you are heading more then what's in between point A and point B. But again that was just beta screen shots, so they may not have been fully developed yet.
Again Baphamet has a good idea on why the "auction" channel rather then an actual bazar, or auction house, I think personal interaction is one of many reasons. I think another good reason is to make it harder for people like IGE and other websites that make real money off selling in game money and items. They will have a bit more trouble selling in game without spamming the auction channel, or spamming the other channels with directions to their NPC merchants. Hopefully Sigil will take a stand against the bots sitting in town spamming directions to their houses like we saw in SWG. But I am sure there are several other reasons too.

Baphomet was a demon in the D&D series, who ruled one of the regions of the Abyss known as the "Endless Maze."
Regarding the topic at hand, I personally have no interest in playing a game that doesn't have an auction house. Congregating in a central location causes lag, and the constant spamming of nonsensical abbreviations makes it almost impossible to find out what's for sale, much less how much it costs. There is no reason that, with the current technology, we can't have an auction house to reduce the time we spend standing around shouting at each other.
Honestly, if they had just said "we don't want to waste server space keeping auction records for all those items" it would have been a much better explanation than "it's an opportunity to socialize."
With SOE running the servers, I don't think server space is the problem. I stick with the thought that it is part of the battle with online markets such as IGE.
But in reply to the comment on the spamming of abbreviations and such. You can always turn off the auction channel, or any other channel. And there will be no abbreviations, because you should be able to link the item in chat so that anyone can read the description.
Not so nice guy!
There will be either abbreviations for types of items for sale or the channel will be spammed with links, I suspect it'll be a nightmare to find anything
I see the socialising thing, but there are times when I just can't be bothered or don't have the time as I'm rushing off to do something with my group.

the whole acution house thing is true.
the reason for this is beacause they are making it a more realistic game and it will make it more fun to play.
if you want an item that is on the other side of the world then you have to go to the other side of the world to get that item.
it would be the same thing as if it was real life
real life plus an awsome mmo= a good time
There will be a map. How much info it has is an issue that is constantly debated/evaluated.
I don't know about chat. I do know it was once their intention for it to have limited range. Last I heard they were still evaluating that one.
There is no auction house. Personally I think that sucks royally. The spam will be awful and annoying. And I never found haggling much fun. But there are some who are wistful about the East Commons/Felwithe stuff, and it appears they will get their wish. Evidently they haven't played GW to see what it's like nowadays w/o an auction house.

this is somewhat true, my name does indeed come from the demon "baphomet" but when searching for a screen name when i first got online "baphomet" was already taken so i adjusted the name a little bit and it has grown on me since.
but back on topic, yeah not having a auction house defiantly has its pros and cons, I'm not sure how i feel about it yet....im going to wait and see how it goes.
i bet if there is a problem with it and there is a huge outcry for a auction house that they will eventually implement one, we will just have to wait and see.
Hmmm, well True going to the other side of the world for an item may have character building aspects but why not regionalize it like EVE online? The socializing aspect of selling to a person is important but not if it become an immeasurable pain. I mean people love to go to Vegas but if the traffic backed up, the pollution got really bad and the noise levels drastically increased- they would not want to go as often. Just becasue socializing is key to the experience doesn't mean you have to not take advantage of what modern games have used- auction house and such. I have to tell ya though, no viable market interface may cause me pause but just my opinion.
Auction House:
Easy to sell and buy items, takes less time to earn money or get youre gear. And also the not so well knowned items sells. You can go to the market and just view items and do a real shopping spree of items you didnt knew you needed in the middle of the night when most people have logged of.
Left foot broken: This will make it very easy for the irl market to sell a huuuge amount of stuff with alot less effort. thus destroying the ingame economy
Sales Channels:
People communicate and there is a possibility that you get to know the seller and become friends. If youre starting to craft 15 months into the game you can still find hours during youre playtime where you will rock the market and beeing the only one selling thouse lvl 7-9 swords. The bad things is ofcourse that it's time consuming and some people just do not want to communicate in order to sell stuff.
Without the market all the best items will be three letter words that
everyone knows. everything else turns to crap and are not worth the
effort to spam.
Right foot broken: Spamming, website's url's and irl market destroys the ingame feeling.
Baphomet was a demon in the D&D series, who ruled one of the regions of the Abyss known as the "Endless Maze."
And Baphamet is what you get when someone took a name someone wanted but wasn't creative enough to make a totally new one..
Example: Legolaz, xlegolasx, Aragron, AAragorn, Gandolf, GandalfX, etc.

LOL yeah, but it's a great thing when you get a great name like Cloud or Conan. It's not original but it's very kewl.
In baphamet's defense he probably thought that was how it was spelled. Not every one still has their D&D modules on their desk. =P
Back to the topic, I kind of like the fact that there won't be an auction house at launch. This really does, whether you believe it or not, promote meaningful interaction between players. It creates relationships and friendships, some of which really have the chance to last a lifetime. I still have 2 friends that I met in EQ/Lineage 2 and I will know them as long as I live. One I met to go grouping in EQ and the other I met in Lineage 2 trying to by something in general chat.
its only a screen name, its kind of hard to find a unique name when signing up for a msn e mail. i have not once used this name for an in game character (when creativity matters).
i know you are just trying to start a flame war as usual, but you will have to do better than that....kid.
and i hate to enter a city and see CHEAP BUY HERE etc etc
PLZ CHOSE THE MEH FOR SPELB0rNe BETAZ KTHKXGUDBYE
to be honest i was well aware how it was spelled i was just looking for a screen name when i first signed up for msn. my name has absolutely nothing to do with my names i come up with when i play video games.
i usually play on RP servers (when i play mmorpg's) so i usually have a unique med-evil type name. the reason i usually use the same name as my e mail on websites and whatnot is so i don't forget my log in information.
BTW if you all really think the demon baphomet comes from D&D originally, you better think again.
Instead of limiting chat to range, wouldn't it have been better to limit it to an amount of players? I mean, if someone in the middle of nowhere OOC: Can someone explain me how to blablabla, 3 persons see that. Another in the middle of a crowded area, and 2000 players see it?
Wouldn't it be better to have it work on the X closest players? It would be easy to check and prolly less lag. No matter the way it is done, I see many discussions dying either way, as peoples move away, without zoning, so they expect that the other player see his answer, yet the other player never saw his answer...so seemless = antisocial feature on this precise point, if based on sole distance or if based on X closest players, peoples will not see answers, yet they will think that the other player saw it, while he never sees it...bad...really bad.
So maybe you have to keep in memory all the players who read you, or that you read, in the last 5 minutes...which would be incredibly heavy to manage for a server and thereby create lag, which is something we don't want...so the choice is to have an anti-social feature or to bring more lag...there must be another way, but I just can't see it. I hope they do, because anti-social features are not cool in MMOs...and lag is even worser.

This won't work, because then when I am out there say /rangechat, looking to put together a raid group. Then the only one to hear me is you, and you'll flame me for raiding. And on top of it I won't get my raid group because you were the only one to hear it....
Sorry I couldn't resist!
Not so nice guy!
Chat: The world is seemless, so they have to limit the chat to a certain range... there will be no global chat because that would include EVERYONE on the server which could be like 1000 people. Rather than giving artificial zone restraints to chat the chat has a range, makes sense to me.
There will be no global auction house/bazaar system because they want regionalized trading but there are systems to make finding items/selling items easier... they just haven't said what they are.
Not so nice guy!
It does seem like that would suggest there is a worldwide chat, but I am guessing that this is just because it is in beta and they want everybody to be able to chat with each other to figure stuff out, tests bugs or what not.
There official site is down so I can't link to that FAQ but the silky venom FAQ has dev quotes about chat here is the link. They say there is no global chat except for guild chat.
