I have been an avid computer gamer since 1989. I only did FPS and Sims (Flight and Mech) before 2004, and then I started playing City of Heroes (RIP), which hooked me hard! I have played almost nothing but MMORPGs since.
DCUO is not a replacement for CoH, it is an entirely different game. It was fun in its own way, and the only game I have played more than DCUO is City of Heroes. But DCUO does not take care of the CoH 'itch'.
None of the successor projects will exactly match CoH, because of legal reasons. All of them will be a little different, and that is good. The different successors will attract different players.
CoH was a great game, and my fave of all time, but it was not perfect. If it was, it would still be running. Lets see which of the successors does the best. My money (literally; I am sending a sub fee every month to the game) is on Ship of Heroes to be the one that works best for me.
Right now, the game I am most anticipating, Ship of Heroes, is updating their game engine, working on their random mission generator and painstakingly fixing world collision detection/ occlusions. This stuff needs to be done, and it is important to the game, especially with characters being able to fly and run at super speed! But it does not make for good videos.
So the information is sparse right now. Once they finish the RMG, I am sure they will show it off for all to see, but with all of the work being mundane stuff, it may end up that the game development goes several weeks with nothing really to show.
