  • "If we don't do that, then the game will never be finished." Port response to funding questions

I think what is confusing is that they are a publisher and have two more publishers on contract.  They market the game on Steam also as a buy to play game but then offer the game through their site as a free to play trial game.  If they can't bring in new playerbase then maybe they should shift focus from making cash shop content to fixing broken game mechanics that gamers don't seem to want.  Three publishers can't solve why there is no playerbase so they say the game will not be complete if people don't use the cash-shop.  Does not seem logical.
  • "If we don't do that, then the game will never be finished." Port response to funding questions

Some questions came up on Steam regarding launch and funding and Portalarium responded insinuating the cash shop is the only money driving development.  They go on to say no one is being forced to buy from their add-on store even though in the same paragraph they suggest that if people don't buy from the add-on store then the game won't ever be finished.

Topic at hand is "When is Release". We are currently in Early Access with launch coming up very soon (we will announce more of these details later this year).
The reason some things (not the majority by any stretch) are in the store is to ensure we can continue to develop and eventually finish the game. If we don't do that, then the game will never be finished. No one is forced to buy those items, so it is entirely up to you.

The biggest problem with SOTA is the unity engines seperation of areas. Had it been a one world server instead, ti would really have boosted the quality. Right now.. loading times are dreadful and I cant see them fix that.

Port finally came out and said they were having major issues with Windows and Unity compatibility.  Anyone following Unity knows there have been issues there since Win10 was released, and finally the devs are acknowledging it.  Unity and how Port uses client machines to control AI and scene host, this game will always be loading screen with mad hitching and hacking.

I'm confused, is Travian actually doing something for SotA? I mean, I know they advertise for Crowfall but I haven't seen anything come from them regarding SotA.
  • Devs report major compatibility issue with Unity and Windows 10

Darkstarr is telling people that it may help if people try to run the game in compatibility mode.

    from SotA's forums:

We have discovered a major compatibility issue with Unity and Windows 10.

When using Windows 10 to play Shroud of the Avatar, some users are experiencing intermittent sound hitching and terrain glitches. A potential workaround that sometimes helps when experiencing these issues is to run the game in Windows 8 compatibility mode. Instructions for running SotA in Windows 8 compatibility mode are below.
    • Use Windows Explorer to navigate to your installation directory and find the "Shroud of the Avatar.exe" file.
      • If you are playing through the launcher, the default location is either C:\Program Files (x86)\Portalarium\Shroud of the Avatar\Shroud of the Avatar.exe or C:\Program Files\Portalarium\Shroud of the Avatar\Shroud of the Avatar.exe.
      • If you are playing through Steam, the default location is C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SotA\Shroud of the Avatar.exe.
    • Right-click your "Shroud of the Avatar.exe" file and select the “Properties” option.
    • In the “Properties” window, select the Compatibility tab.
    • In the Compatability tab, check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select “Windows 8” from the dropdown menu.
    • Click “OK” at the bottom of the “Properties” window.
    • When you next run the game, it will be running in compatibility mode.
