  • Mass Effect: Andromeda - Making a Good Game Better - MMORPG.com

If this trend continues, more of us will stop buying games at launch. Imagine how different the play experience will be when you compare the launch day experience to holding off until December, buying this game at half price and having most of the bugs fixed.

I dont know if I am just getting too old for video games or the industry has gotten too big for its britches. I do know that more and more I hear people talk about not buying at launch and being much happier getting the game for half price and being able to play it with the majority of bugs fixed.

We are entering the era of the Indie.  Big corps are run by money men who only want to see another WoW or CoD.  It will take some group of indie devs to make the next genre breaker.

The part where they download FREE art assets from the Unity asset store and then sell them for $20 in the game is just appalling. If these developers have no problem doing that, then they sure as heck have no problems doing any other unethical business practices.

People place art assets on the asset store for free to get their work recognized. These are talented people just starting out on their art careers and are trying to get their names out there and show their work. For Portalarium to just take it and sell for their own profit is so amazingly unethical that it honestly makes me sick to my stomach.

If these are the kind of people you want to support with your money, then by all means do it. But dont come back later crying about how greedy and corrupt the game industry is after you helped to support that kind of behavior.

The WWO team has spoken VERY strongly about the fact that they are using an engine but that the dev is NOT involved in any way, shape or form in the project on any possible level. This is how misinformation gets spread to the ends of the earth.

You can read their statement about the matter here:

What a person "says" and what a person "does" are frequently two different things in the game industry.  Much like when Chris Roberts said in 2013 that stretch goals would not delay Star Citizens 2014 release.

I remember one of the remakes of war-z said they were a brand new company and tried to make it appear that Titov was not involved.  It later turned out that he was.

With all the game engines out there, to choose that one with its poor reputation and with its biggest complaint being the amount of cheaters/hackers and then to say it was picked because of the strong anti-cheat built in should be sending an alert to your game-dar or ripoff-dar.

Titov did not license them the engine for free.  He may not be involved in the "development" of the game but he sure as pie is involved on the backend somewhere
  • Will Smed's Hero's Song Be Revived by Amazon? - MMORPG.com News

I agree with you Wizardry. While I do respect John for his early work on EQ, he has done nothing of merit since then. As the CEO of SOE he was a disaster:

    1. He alienated a large player base with what happened to SWG.

    2. He earned very little in profit despite having some of the best industry people cycle through his organization while also having the financial backing of Sony.

    3. He consistently overhyped/overpromised like when he said H1Z1 would be the place for SWG vets to "come home" to.

    4. His DC Hero game was so bad, it went F2P in record time.

    5. He consistently blamed others for his issues. When moving over to Daybreak his excuse was how Sony tied his hands by not allowing his games on the XBox and how this would really help them at DayBreak. Spoiler - it did not help Daybreak and they gave him the boot.

You dont sell off your profitable divisions, SOE was sold off due to poor performance while John was at the helm. At no time did John EVER admit to doing anything wrong or take responsibility for any of his disasters. For SWG he blamed Lucus Arts, for poor performance at SOE he blamed not being able to launch on XBox.

The guy helped make the original EQ back in the 90's. That is his only claim to fame. Everything he has done since then has been average or below average which says a lot when he had access to some of the industries best talent and an almost unlimited amount of money behind him at SOE.
  • Why Derek Smart is right about Star Citizen - His facts and why SC is likely to fail

Derek Smart has one of the biggest egos in the business.  Both him and Chris Roberts have been living for years off the work they did decades ago and that work was assisted by countless others who get no credit for their contributions.

Derek has been predicting the financial collapse of CIG for years.  I think goons feed him this information just to watch him get an O-Face and then come and post another prediction of CIG collapsing.

Chris Roberts is really just like Derek, if you gave Derek 150 million to build a game we would be looking at the same degree of mismanagement and the forever addition of useless features like we are now.

If both of them were hanging from a building and I had to pick one to save I honestly dont know which one I would lend a hand to.  They would probably both die as I mulled the decision over in my head.

  • Why are you NOT playing Elite: Dangerous?

I picked it up over a year ago and tried it for about 4 hours.  Maybe I am too old for this game because here is how my playtime went:

Between maneuvering out of the station, moving far enough away from station to warp, warping past my objective, warping past it again, finally getting to my objective, shoot pirates for 2 minutes (this was the fun part) warping back, going sub-warp 10,000 away from the station and slowing getting there, then another minute or two trying to dock correctly and get paid a minute amount for the two minutes of fun I just had in the last 30 minutes.

I get that it is trying to be a realistic simulation but holy cow, just give me a "warp to obj" button along with an auto-dock.  If I want that kind of realism, I will go play with the wife and kids.
