Elder Scrolls Online News - Bethesda has obviously been taking note of Activision, EA and Ubisoft and their collective commitment to almost exclusively developing online multiplayer "games as a service" titles. During last night's Game Awards, Bethesda teamed up with voice actress (and former Wonder Woman!) Lynda Carter to throw serious shade at other publishers and vow to #SavePlayer1.

    Are single player games really in trouble? I'm not really seeing it.

    There's more single player games coming out constantly that I want to play but can't possibly find the time to play.

    This is cool. With the massive shift to 'games as a service' it's nice to hear the commitment to single player games that don't make me register for an account, always sign in, be bombarded with MT offers, etc...

    I do think it's funny to donate more money to scholarships to equip kids for a over saturated career with massive job insecurity from constant layoffs and industry shake-ups.

    With the sad state of the MMO genre atm it's a +1 for more single player games.

    Well, I think the percentage of singleplayer games have gone down a bit the last few years but there is still plenty of them so there is nothing really to fear.

    It is worse with MMOs sadly, particularly from western publishers.

    I don't think there is a lack of single player games today, just a lack of quality single player games. Hell I tend to play MMO's as single player games today a good bit. Actually I think the amount of games is larger today than it was 10 to 15 years ago. The problem is most all of them are total crap or cash grabs. You can look at a platform like steam and see this today. If you were to actually go thru the games there are tons of them, the problem is finding the ones that are worth while, while going thru the trash.

    Teamed up? Linda Carter is married to Robert A. Altman the chairman and CEO of ZeniMax Media the parent company of Bethesda Softwork.

    Also, where is my single player Elder Scroll VI and why are there lockboxes in ESO ZeniMax?

    It is not a coincidence that the only company/ies claiming that single player is dead haven't made a good single player game in years.

    Make a bad game, then don't complain that it isn't selling.

    Honestly, it's not like anything of value was lost there.

    Single player games better not be going anywhere. While I do sometimes like multiplayer games there are just some games that need to remain single player.

    Wait, we're talking about Bethesda "saving us"from gaming as a service with single player games?

    Same company that makes Fallout 4 which has like 7 DLC modules, a season pass, and a modding tool they sell you.

    waking up with lies is kinda hard to take during the morning


    btw its kinda funny a game dev saying it will be ther to save the SP when you need a comunity of modders to make they games playable, plus after the whole we will not offer trialsbefore launches and not let anyone else play it till is ready (well if its by they definition of ready is not much, if was mine not even oblivion is ready), its like a hell of a hard thing to belive, using a old actress who most kids today don't even know about makes no sense, till I read about she being marriad to someone in the zenimax, with then makes this so damn desperate then before its kinda sad.

    btw since when FO4 was best game of the year? I was pretty sure witcher 3 win that one

    A quote from Jim Cornette is very applicable to EA right now I think, "Its like there's a party in their mouth and everyone is coming." EA is getting beaten from all sides....and its deserved. But since EA is veering away from the single player genre, maybe there will be a Dragon Age Online. Of course it'll be flooded with micro-transactions and loot boxes but the idea is kind of intriguing
