Favorite video game music composer?

MrMelGibsonMrMelGibson Member EpicPosts: 3,033
Music can enhance and often times be one of the emotional drives behind a story.  I have always loved video game and movie soundtracks.  If i had to name my favorite composer I believe my answer would be Nobuo Uematsu.  He is known for his work on a majority of the Final Fantasy series.

What are your favorite composer/s?

The good old 'game music' thread, welcome back   (there's one every few months)

No change on my part, Knut A. Haugen and Chance Thomas (and a proud owner of two AoC and three LotRO discs - yep, that means the Mordor and the Anniversary collection discs are not in my grubby hands yet, but christmas is coming  )

And for GW 1 and 2.

From the west he's on my list too, as well as WoW's composers.

From the east, Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy) and Miki Higashino (Suikoden 1 and 2).

I'm sure there are others i really like.

John Williams.   Anytime a game uses his epic music it makes my wallet open...

    ... well.. except for SWBF2.

He is the Once and Future King of soundtrack composers.

He done a llot more good stuff, I like the original Guildwars music he did too. :)

I did like the music of TCoS as well, it was made by the Dutch band "Within temptation".

As a general rule I almost always turn music off in the options if I can. Most of it is crap and just distracts from the game and I can't really think of any games that had music I enjoyed.

For me, this. I especially love the music for Morrowind and Oblivion.

WoW has some amazing music as well. I especially loved the Night Elf lands. I'm not sure who composed those pieces. Anyone know?

Finally, I really enjoyed the original Fable soundtrack. Was that Danny Elfman? Edit: @chambordin Yes! Agree!

And some of the Civ V tracks are beautiful. I really enjoyed the one for Portugal, but I don't know who wrote it. There are some other really nice ones.

Recently, I really liked the metal soundtrack for the tutorial section of MU Legend, but I haven't been able to find it anywhere on youtube.

There's so many great one's but I'm going to pick Nobuo Uematsu for his work on Final Fantasy VI and even more specifically the track Terra's Theme.

I think that's probably the most nostalgic and thought provoking sound track for me.

This seems like madness to me, music adds so much to games. From walking into Tom Bombadil's house and hearing a merry tune to the hilarious moment when Holding Out for a Hero kicks in during Saints Row The Third, music is just integral to presentation and is usually what people remember the most about games.

Each to their own but I'll never be able to understand that choice.

Not a game but the soundtrack from the movie Legend.

I actually prefer the original soundtrack to that movie (on the director's cut). Still, I think Tangerine Dream did a good job making a "dreamy" fantasyesque soundtrack.

Gona have to cast my vote for Nobuo Uematsu. The man is a legend with video game music. Not many ppl have had such an impact in the video game genre as a whole as he did. Even today with FFXIV he is making masterpieces of videogame music.

For me it would be between Jeremy Sole (Morrowind theme still raises the goose bumps), and Peter McConnell, who did the Grim Fandango, Monkey Island, and Pyschonauts scores, and a bunch of the Star Wars stuff too.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.
