I guess im the only person on the planet that liked Unholy Wars better...

Same. That game was pretty damn good at the end. I will give this one a shot though. My limited time in DF1 it reminded me of an archaic version of DFUW.

As someone who has never played the game before, but loves pvp would this be something I would enjoy?

You love pvp how? Like WoW's BGs? This is full loot pvp with some open world and some large battles, but no queues or arena. Where you around for Shadowbane? Or does Crowfall seem interesting to you? You may like this or at least want to give it a try. As a pvp focused game it would seem like a no-brainer to say yes, but that is in a vacuum not factoring in systems or mechanics. I know there are a lot of games out there with some systems I like but lack other mechanics I can't live with out, like a decent a varied and worthwhile chardev system that doesn't end up with everyone being a master of everything, or just laughable and basically non-existent like Albion Online.

I wish it wasn't full loot, but was loot your bags like Shadowbane, or one one piece of gear.  Full loot just seems like way too much crafting...

if you're not fundamentally opposed to full loot and full action combat, then yes.

btw, my previous signature was made before the original Darkfall release in 2009.  it sounded strange now that all these other versions have come out.  especially with how different New Dawn is.

This is definitely something you would enjoy!

Truly fluid, first person shooter (archery and magic) and third or first person skilled melee (eg reactive blocking) PvP is one of the cores of the game. Throw in:

    - a huge, non-instanced world
    - soft skill-caps, specialisations through titles and a wealth of skills
    - trade, and crafting
    - politics and diplomacy (think EVE)
    - spies and back-stabbing (think EVE)
    - a meaningful alignment system to heavily discourage (but not prohibit) the murderer playstyle
    - naval combat
    - (the list goes on)
    - guild and social play being encouraged

this really is a great game.

But don't take my word for it (I've been playing Darkfall in its different versions for years).

There's going to be a free tiral period in the 2 to 3 weeks before launch - so keep an eye out for this in January.

The graphics are definitely retro - but the gameplay is second to none.

Never played Darkfall but this peeked my interest and I think I'm going to give it a go.

While looking into it a bit more I came across a dev interview with Marc Thompson that answered a lot of the questions I had about the game's direction which is a good read for anyone considering playing.

i would recommend to try it out - depends on what kind of combat you like, this is more action oriented, fast paced combat.

regarding pve and dungeons - there are some hard mobs that need to be killed in groups that make it at least a bit more interesting /if they fixed the fact that most of them were exploitable/, then there is the spawn scaling system that makes it much easier to farm and there are dungs, but as it was said this are mostly just places with better spawns and with chests in them.

DFUW actually tried to improve PvE and added some kind of "standard" dung where when you entered you could leave only when you killed main monster in that area - you had to progress through the instance and open up stages - it wasnt much as this was pretty basic stuff but still better then nothing - but still best part was even it was instanced anybody could enter that instance and it was good pvp hotspot /the priceless feeling when you kill the damn boss with you last 2 members at 10% and then some lone wolf hiding in the dung jumps you and gets all the sweet loot - if you are lone wolf its the best game ever, if you are the heroic group of heroes you might rage quit and uninstall:)/

That is an insane philosophy.  I expect little thinking from a seaman but I figured even you guys could think outside of a vacuum.  You should have spent more time around the infantry primary Marines on your ship instead of playing tickle with your bunk buddies and the other poques.  This isn't the same game as it has different focuses and mechanics.  Saying this is the same game is like saying wow vanilla or BC is the same game as whatever wow is now.  Changes change things, and that is why the word was invented.

Game is full of PvE, in fact a lot of people spend more time doing PvE than PvP! There are dungeons all over the world of Agon (something like 32 or more) all though they are not what most people are used to for a dungeon, they are more a place with condensed mob spawns and perhaps a chest that can be looted if you have the keys for it. There are plans to make improvements to these dungeons in the works but that will be later.

"Later" That is the problem with ROA "Later" It is also why ROA is dead. Because of "later" the fanbase doesn't want to wait until "later" while the devs rake in the cash with simple UI, xml file changes in alpha/beta. The game is sorely lacking in content and features that don't revolve around pvp and this version will die also because of it. Don't get me wrong Darkfall has the best pvp in a mmorpg, however it has major flaws like no skill caps, zerging, and the whole game being geared to pvp for the sake of pvp. The futher hinders the game because all the sheep players are eventually forced to leave the game by the vets that join into a zerg rather than fight each other because they rather have easy wins.

don't judge a book by its cover... yes it looks dated (looked dated back in 2008 too), but had some of the most immersive and addictive gameplay I have ever experienced. It suffered from poor design choices back then that detracted from the 'fun' factor of the game but the overall concept was amazing...

Most definitely.. best adrenaline rush I ever had was in the old DfO.
DND looks like a huge improvement to it, so definitely gonna try it out come Launch.

Be sure to start playing at the beginning of release while there are a lot of people at starting cities for more drama and trash :)
It is definitely worth trying this game just because of local bank system.

A fantastic game and for its time it blew away so called AAA MMOs

Hahahahah! Did it? So much so that it was shelved.. what.. 4 times now? Please. You're not fooling anyone. How many people are playing this game? The only thing it ever blew away was itself.

3000 players in clans. Many unclanned people so the estimate is around 5 to 6k.

And people say its the best game because they had epic moments that no other game had. Big sieges, real wins or epic losses. Real emotions, something other games dont have.

pay the 9,99€ and join an active clan with regular events and i bet you will. However it has abit of a learning curve setting everything up.

I'm playing, was very skeptical at first but thought heh why not I'll give it a go. Really having a lot of fun.

Population is booming, fighting people at every single vulnerable village control point often multiple teams show up.
Skill-gains are front-heavy, and not too fast not to progress.

Lots of changes have been made when compared to the original DFO to make this one a living, breathing world. One of the most impactful changes is the local banking (global gold though), local marketplaces and no bindstone/house recall. On top of this, upon death you can only spawn at a choice of closest bindstones to your corpse. At first I thought this would mean too much of my game time spent traveling and not enough PvP and character progression. I was wrong.

The localised system means you play your game in your local vicinity, and maybe travel to a new area each game session during / after hitting up some villages. It doesn't take too long to build up a bank for going out and PvPing at any given area, and in doing so you will be training your character.

There's multiple quality of life improvements too, including not needing any tools to gather, not needing siege hammers to capture village control points (king of the hill system now), meditation for skill gains whilst offline etc.

If you've never played Darkfall, but you enjoy FPS games and would like to play an MMORPG with FPS combat and a vast amount of skills to create a very deep and competitive combat system, you should absolutely give this game a go.

There's a place for crafters as well, if you're ok with the risk vs reward type environment. Although admittedly much of what a crafter does in Darkfall can be played semi-afk.

This version also has a much heavier focus on racial wars (humans/elves/dwarves vs ork/mahirim vs alfar) with quite large penalties for ganking your own race (outside of a village PvP zone) and flags every clan member of an ARAC red. I actually really like this. In previous versions of DFO you would automatically attack any player not part of your own clan, in DND a large portion of the clans are racial ones. I have entered a clan city knowing that clan was a human/elf/dwarf clan, wasn't attacked.

This is certainly a different take on Darkfall.

Currently playing: Black Desert Korea (Waiting for EU)

Always hating on instances in MMOs! Open worlds, open PvP, territory control and housing please. More persistence, more fun.

Darkfall New Dawn ( https://darkfallnewdawn.org ) is a direct competitor of Darkfall Rise of Agon. Darkfall Unholy Wars died along with the original Darkfall. Hope that helps clear things up.
