Life is Feudal News - Life is Feudal is ready to unleash an open beta phase starting on November 17th. The team believes the game is ready for wider consumption after what it calls a "successful series of closed beta tests". Players can also check out starter packages to provide some in-game goodies. i like that they finally will have regional persistent large servers run by devs, and not small 64 players instances run by players. i like that it has terraforming and full loot free for all pvp. i like that they can handle (allegedly) 10,000 players per servers....we shall see. i like that these servers won't be wiped.
i don't like that the starting prices is 75$ (Canadian) AND there is a subscription fee?! what exaclty is Premium account status? and what can you get with God's Favor (premium ingame currency) ? its this Favor purchasable at cash shop ? .....this better be one friken smooth and fluid playing game if they think they can charge that kind of money and sub. especially the large scale pvp.

Been following this game for years, and for a small dev team I've been impressed with LiF: Your Own and LiF: Forrest Village. Hope it was worth the wait, looking forward to learning more about the Open Beta.

So you like large persistent servers, but apparently, don't like the reality that they cost money to maintain and support?

you misunderstood. i will purchase and pay the sub IF this game is good, and doesn't turn out to be a P2W with this Gods Favor (did happily with WoW, DF, MO). by good i mean the combat is fluid and accurate and not too many game breaking bugs, especially bugs that get you killed in pvp.
also how the GMS will handle cheaters and exploiters that always infest full loot games.

i actually believe full loot games SHOULD have a price tag+sub, so as not to get flooded with kids and hackers, and also so that it gets expensive for cheaters that get banned and have to re-buy and re-sub.

having said that, i will expect a lot from a premium prices + sub game.

There is no subscription fee. After you have bought the game, you may create as many characters as you like on Newbie Island, although there are weekly wipes there, and any equipment you obtain there will not transfer to the mainland. When you are ready to head to the mainland, it will cost you a "ticket to the mainland" for each character who makes the journey. I believe you will get one ticket included in the price of the game, and additional tickets if you buy one of the premium packages. After that, you must pay cash for further tickets. However, you only need more tickets if you create alts, or if you decide to delete your original character and start again. If your character dies, you will respawn on the mainland so no additional ticket is needed for that.

I would be interested to know the source of this Open Beta date. There is no mention of it in the News section of the website, on the LiF forums, in the LiF Discord, or the LiF Twitter feed. Is this an MMORPG.com exclusive?

on their website, included in the game packages, are "30 to 90 days of Premium account status" that gives unspecified "special benefits". i assumed that once the 30/90 days are over you are able to buy additional Premium account status (hence a sub for premium status)?... or is this status a one time deal only?
  • PaulChattertonPaulChatterton Member UncommonPosts: 19
Premium status is an optional extra. It's not entirely clear what everything you get for this yet but I'd say it's far from essential. As an example, I think you might get one hour a day, or one day a month, where your skill gain rate is doubled. You might also get currency to spend on rare equipment recipes.

ok well the lack of transparency is a bit suspect. i'll tell you this, in a full loot pvp game, this is a very slippery slope. if the advantage of premium status is anything more than cosmetics, it will become a requirement to be competitive. i don't understand why they don't just clarify this.

I kind of want to check it out because I've been watching it grow and mature over the years. It's quite an accomplishment. I'm not sure if the gritty thing is my kind of game long term, but I'm interested in visiting for a bit.
The free for all PvP is a red flag, but I don't know exactly how things like guilds are implemented or anything.

You don't have to pay again if you have YO already. You get one Ticket to the Mainland for free

LIF MMO is a Great game, the best since Ultima Online. I started UO 97 and played till 2005. Since then ive bin looking for a MMO. Tried a few but all modern MMOs is made to fit everyone. Boring vanilla games. LIF MMO is not for everyone, its unforgiving and hardcore. Try it! If you liked UO you like this! Cya in game!

PS. Someone said its monthly fee, its NOT.

So is this an actual OPEN beta open to all or do you have to buy something to access it?

Uhh? If you got YO you get 1 ticet for mmo, if im not wrong. MMO is 30 times larger map with 1000s of people. Ofcourse it takes some cash the upscale to that level?

    Is it permadeath?

Is the game meant to be played with just one character? I noticed the package tiers only have 1 transfer ticket that is consumable.  Why the restriction or limitation on tickets?

What happens when your character dies? How does the player recover from death and loss in the game? What are the restart mechanics like?
Your character respawns I think.  It's just that you basically have to buy every extra character slot to get them from the starter island to the mainland (I think).

So when you die you have to buy an item with real money to get back off of the starter island?

No, once you are on the mainland if you die you redrawn there. Only need a new "ticket" if you want to create a new character

When you die, you lose some skill points depending on your alignment. This loss is permanent until you train the skills back up again. Alignment is negatively affected by committing crimes, mainly attacking other players who are not branded as criminals when there is no state of war between your guilds. Alignment is positively affected by praying. If your alignment is very high, you will lose very little. If you alignment is very low, you could end up respawning with skills worse than a brand new character. Of course, if your skills have dropped lower than a new character, you can choose to delete your character and start again with a new one, but that's where you are going to need a Ticket to the Mainland. Loss of skills on death is the price you pay if you choose to be a bandit, attacking other players indiscriminately.

In addition, when you die, everything you are wearing or carrying will drop on the ground where you died, for other people to be able to loot. If you die on the mainland, you will respawn naked at the house you have bound to as your home, or at the mainland starter city if you have no bound home, so there is no need for a new Ticket to the Mainland unless you create a new character.

The other time you may wish to use an additional Ticket to the Mainland is if you want an alt. There is a cap on skill levels that means that one character is not able to do everything. Generally, you can only fully specialise in one skill line, if you want to max all skills in that skill line. The skills are designed so that everyone is going to need help from someone else at some stage. For instance, someone who specialises in hunting and keeping animals can snare some chickens, which he can breed, but to breed the chickens he needs a chicken coop, which must be built by a builder, and to build it, the builder will need wooden boards from a carpenter and nails from a blacksmith. While breeding the chickens, the hunter will need to clean them out regularly, and the resulting poop can be used by a farmer to make manure. When the hunter slaughters the chickens, he will get meat and feathers, giving the meat to the farmer/cook to make food that gives a skill training boost, and feathers to the carpenter to make arrows.

With this interaction between skills, you are going to need the help of other characters. One way to do this is to join a guild, or at least to trade with a nearby guild. If you really want to solo, though, you might choose to create alts with different skills, in which case you are going to need a Ticket to the Mainland for each alt.
