New study's find piracy doesn't hurt companies?

Any thoughts on this, just some news articles where study's find that piracy doesn't hurt game, music, or movie sales but is said to actually boost their income?

Also there are multiple news reports from 2013 after searching this which say that Piracy doesn't hurt music, or movie sales, but instead boosts their over-all revenue, sure they might lose some sales because people choose to watch an unauthroized copy, but with internet streaming of movies not being illegal people do this anyways, and any of 1000 people or more can still put a tape in a recorder and record the music or whatever content is being played therefore that being illegal, but its said not to harm the sales?

Not encouraging piracy, I buy my games legally through steam, but I am curious to why developers still use strict DRM which impacts legitimate players, causes harm, requires additional PC hardware requirements up to 1GB Extra ram for a game running Denuvo, and wears down components faster because of this in a matter of speaking, when there are plenty of other reputable DRM including "Steam DRM" which is okay doesn't impact legitimate customers, although generally all DRM is cracked so is Denuvo and evne after a pirated copy is released this still impacts the legitimate customers who purchased the game off steam, such as  the game called Neir automata, which has a FPS cap, and I think resolution, but modders could easily fix this if it didn't use Denuvo.

    I can see that because most people I've known that torrent do so because they wouldn't have otherwise bought the movie/game/etc. So the companies aren't necessarily losing a customer, because they wouldn't have bought it anyways. Plus, they're gaining people who view/play it, show their friends, then word of mouth that it's an awesome game/movie spread to people who actually want to buy it. Also not promoting torrenting/piracy, but I can see how it may not be as damaging to the industry as we thought.

    Well I purchased two games by accident with Denuvo on steam, including Conan Exiles, as soon as I found out about the DRM I completely uninstalled both from my system, wiped the drive to be sure because I don't trust the DRM, plus even if the DRM isn't an issue for privacy reasons it does impact legitimate buyers in other ways like additional system requirements that otherwise would not be needed if Denuvo was not part of the product.

    Shadow OF War for example which can be found on steam here I was planning on buying the mithril edition for $300, but I waited on it until I have confirmation if the game has Denuvo, sure enough the game uses it, so I am never going to buy the game.

    DRM is fine, but DRM needs to be reputable, such as "Steam" "Origins" "Uplay" not DRM from 3rd parties who act as a global piracy solution such as Denuvo which force you to accept a 3rd party agreement often of which isn't presented to people buying the game at "Game Stop" for example. not that game stop will likely be around for long anyways due to games going digital anyways.

    So yeah they lost like $300 sale from me, and I won't even pay $10 for it on steam when it goes on sale in a few years.

    Theft is theft, but at a certain point if lets say for example, I pirated a MP3, and someone hears it chances are they are going to ask who it is if they like it and then they will go buy the album or CD for example, although CD's are a dying age, but they used to be popular back in the day 10 years or so ago when kids would always pirate music and listen to it on the bus for example, but theft generally speaking can increase sells even though its obviously wrong and people should always support the developers.

    Most people are legitimate and will purchase a product for $59 if they can afford it than waste time downloading a file online which may contain a virus or other malicious software, and to support the developers anyways but often some people may miss a movie, or game that has been released and see a person playing it who doesn't own it legally then may decide to buy it themselves which is why its said that it helps increase sales.
