AsheramAsheram Member EpicPosts: 5,071
It's in beta now on PC, releasing on consoles next month. https://www.kotaku.com.au/2017/09/skyrim-is-getting-a-survival-mode/
Player needs to eat to stay alive, dress for weather so don't freeze to death. Fast travel disabled and more.

I saw this in the comments section.

...Survival Mode is part of Bethesda's controversial Creation Club, and is being advertised as "free for one week".
If you get it during those first seven days you can keep it for nothing. Anyone downloading it after that is going to have to pay.

The weird thing is, it's being advertised like it is official content. It's not. It's part of the creation club which is fine with me but they need to state that in the beginning not just in some sentence later in the press releases. Also it's free for a week, so if anyone is interested they better get it in the first week to get it free forever. I'll be downloading it since it might make Skyrim a bit more interesting for me.

I wonder how it effects supernatural creatures like vamps and ww's?

I have it (got it for free as it's in beta).

I actually like it. There are some issues such as sometimes crashing when using the "Cart" travel.

It's a bit simpler than the already established mods out there but that's a plus for me.

Wow, no fast travel? Having to eat and dress accordingly too? Sounds like a whole new level of strategy unless you are part of the instant gratification crowd. They'll just chalk this up as tedious and unnecessarily stupid.
Yeah, it does require a bit of thinking.

So, your carry weight is lessened by quite a bit. All those potions that I have on hand? The food? Carrying stuff out of dungeons? It's a bit of a juggle.

Of course, one can always turn it off to fast travel. Having said that, one can just play where they don't use fast travel even if it's there so that is really up to the player and the type of experience they want.

The other thing I like is that fur armor has the highest warmth rating. So, if I want to journey north I need to plan my character as more of a light armor wearer over my ordinary heavy armor.

Do you need the base computer game? I assume you do.

I did enjoy skyrim on PS4.

So I guess you need the special edition to use this which I do not have and I see no inexpensive way to upgrade to it other than buying the whole game over for $40 for the special edition.
And I didn't have time to read the whole article when I posted this as I was at work and didn't catch the whole need to buy it after 7 days from release, if I did I wouldn't have made this thread, sry if I wasted anyones time.

Does the creation club process really make a difference for modding content?  Does it actually improve the community experience?  Why should I choose this over the survival mods that we've had for years?

I read that the creation club content goes through Bethesda's internal testing processes but I find that ironic when it's the community that has been fixing Bethesda's bugs from the beginning.  Is it worth supporting the creation club or would I just be feeding the machine?

Is it my impression or this is just a mash-up of the survival mods that have been out there for years?

I remember playing "survival" skyrim with frostfall, hunterborn, realistic needs and diseases and a few more I don't remember the name of right now.

Is it compatible with Special Edition though or base game only?

You have to have the special edition, which I dont have, I just have the base game. I dont know about the console version.

I play on survival difficulty on Fallout 4. Definitely the best approach. I kind of hate the, I am difficult because a 0 was added to my HP monsters.

Well, it's rumored that the guy who made Forstfall worked on this.

For me, it's a bit simpler than Frostfall so that works for me. I specifically did not install Frostfall because it was too much.

And as far as I know it's only compatible with Special Edition as it's on their Creation club that is only advertised through the Special Edition.

With the Creation Club, you can get the shittier creations for free if you log in every day. So far I have gotten the Onyx Camo, Swamp Camo, Horse Armor, and Morgan Spacesuit for free. I imagine the same applies to Skyrim.

I prefer the survival modes in these games. Fallout New Vegas was the first that made it apparent, and I'm glad they added it to Fallout 4 for free. Suddenly the vast number of items have meaning (such as food, or junk for crafting), and the typical directive of travel from A to B to complete a goal is measured with more exploration, using portions of the map you might not have used otherwise, and often (not always) providing room for more diverse characters.

My problem with the Skyrim Creation Club's version of survival is two fold. Firstly, they're charging for a game mode they added to Fallout 4 for free. I've read that Skyrim survival will be free for a few days after Creation Club opens, but that isn't good enough (sorry). Secondly, you can play survival mode in Skyrim already, and have been able to for years through free mods. And given how much the Creation Club gets under my skin, I'll list some of them here for you to discover or not discover on your own time: Frostfall, Wet and Cold, Realistic Needs and Diseases, Alternate Start.

The only good thing about survival coming to Skyrim from Creation Club is that it'll be a simple installation that requires little effort, if any, from the user. Personally, I'd rather save myself the eight bucks. And fuck Creation Club, seriously. It's a god damn joke.
