To this I would say yes, it really is a case of the looney running the asylum. Where else would you have people dropping $10,000, $20,000 or even $40,000 on promises from an renowned over-promiser.

Basically what the journalists say is:
... you need a developer that is driven and a perfectionist to even contemplate such an ambitious project.
... you need fans that not only want to buy a computer game but want to ".....invest in a dream, the enormous dream of the ideal space game ..."
(--> "....investiert in einen Traum, den gewaltigen Traum vom idealen Weltraumspiel...").

    Have fun
No you need a developer who wasn't run out of the game industry over a decade ago. A perfectionist sounds great on paper (much like many of SC's ideas) but you soon realize perfectionism in a video game will be its downfall.

So, your okay with mediocrity in your games? That's cool.

If no one dreams it, who will build it?

Unrealistic egomania and mediocrity are the not the binary choices.

If you are holding out for the perfect game, the only game you play will be the waiting one.

If you hire competence that you can over rule at will it doesn't really do any good.  It's like hiring an expert but not listening to anything he has to say because you're convinced your ambition makes you right.

uhhh, it's also risk vs reward.
Any expert would say you: Don't be ambitious.

Because it's the safe route, there's more risk when you are gambling the outcome, it's as said, by trial and error.

Most founders don't even hire experts because they are doing something different and don't want to pay people to tell them how they should do things.  They usually hire people who are talented and good at following directions.  The ones who aren't good at only saying yes usually leave when they realize the boss only has one way  of doing things, his way.

PC Gamer has produced a round up of the best space games on PC.

GameStar (the gaming magazine) has its 20 year anniversary.

They show a satire version of their 40 (!) year anniversary magazine. Made from paper from the last tree on Earth,

One of the headlines of Issue Oktober 2037 is
"Chris Roberts (69) promises: Star Citizen Alpha 3.0 "almost ready". Only a few more bugs need to be fixed!"

This game needs a Cassini memorial, like E:D has a Spock memorial.

    Thank you Cassini!

Citizencon next month revealed some more details, named: "CitizenCon 2947: Exploring New Worlds"

    https://robertsspaceindustries.com/comm-link/engineering/16122-CitizenCon-2947-Exploring-New-Worlds

The bit of relevance to this is the list of sponsors, they determine what will appear in the game's conference next month:

Here's some speculation posted here for said sponsors:
    • Consolidated Outland: The game changer ship is courtesy these guys, expect it to be out of the ordinary

    • UEE Diplomatic Corps: This may be in relation to SQ42 footage

    • Compass Magazine: in lore mag, not sure what this one means. Perhaps related to the announced but undetermined Concierge perk?

    • Electronic Access : I'm expecting updates to all the in lore games with 3.1 patch. New stamina mechanics and new maps for Star Marine, item 2.0 in Arena commander as well as new maps, and hopefully land race tracks as well (see this week's email sneak peek)

    • Aegis Dynamics: I expect a big Reclaimer reveal, along with a hefty price hike

The so-called game-changer ship is highly discussed in the community as a construction ship, what would be a new profession.

I wouldn't think they would risk to not have SQ42 making one appearance (either that is trailer or gameplay demo) as that would just lead to much backlash, perhaps even SQ42's production schedule (mentioned earlier this year by Erin).
