Seriously being forced to only use Windows Store apps and not being able to use Chrome or Steam etc.... its the shitties version of windows yet.
Only being able to run software from the windows store is a huge limitation especially when you consider that the windows store apps are not guaranteed to be virus free, so good luck with that, as you can't even install a decent antivirus/firewall program without having to pay an extra $50 for the priviledge. O.o

I have used Bing for years. I also just switched completely over to Microsoft Edge. It is at a point where I feel it can replace Opera. Ad-blocker stops the slow page loading on some sites. No longer have the scroll to top issue. And it always displayed pages better. Before I only used Edge to watch porn since I knew they were sending the data to the NSA.
I got to tell you, I have worked as a consultant for 3 companies (our clients) since google became 'a thing' and I interact with a great deal of office users, nobody in the office I know of over the course of those 3 companies will even come close to touching Bing. but here is the thing about that. How many home users are using their PC for video games or photoshop? not nearlly as many you think.
My mother for example ONLY uses a chromebook and it comes 100% of what she needs to do with it and some she doesnt even take advantage of.

There was also a particular vulnerability where Windows Defender was the only AV product that provided protection. (I can't find the link, I apologize, it was a few weeks ago) And Google Chrome engineers say it's one of the better products in terms of resource usage. Is it the best? Probably not, but it's free, and it gets relevant and timely updates, and for people who aren't out on the dark web pushing warez, I think it's good enough for typical daily use.
Ultimately, though, if you are depending on your AV product to provide total protection, you are doing something wrong. No AV software can protect against stupid. That doesn't mean that I recommend running around with no AV software at all, because we all do stupid things from time to time, but if your looking for a product that provides total protection, the only product that does that is unhooking your computer from the internet and never installing anything from any external device ever.
As far as Google v Bing - let's stop feeding the troll. It's a non-issue, as your free to use whichever, whenever, or even both at the same time if you want, without any other consequence. So why is it even being debated?

Slow or stop updates altogether on devices after 3 years and I think they decided this based on their cell phone business.. it gives you 2 years for your average cell contract and 1 more year of possible updates (I only received 1 update for my tablet that third year) before you are pushed to upgrade or you get left behind. Pretty awful.

Well that, and the mismanagement of my note 7. Their hardware is usually strong. Their practices as of late I disagree with. 8 years ago I was impressed by them, but now I'm looking to other companies. Many use samsung parts, but they support their devices and care for their customers more.

This is why I switched from Andriod devices like Samsung to Nexuis or Pixel devices. They support their products longer and the updates are faster. I didnt like the Pixel C so I switched my tablet to a windows device. Sick of buying a new tablet every 2-3 years.

I dont think we know numbers of people that have chromebooks exclusively vs chromebooks and a PC/Windows.
Even looking at your own comments, your mom uses a chromebook exclusively, but you use both. That is 50/50 there, and my guess was you helped guide her to get by with just a chromebook.

No doubt at all, but I think its idiotic frankly to think the majority of home users need those items that only a traditional PC can do which is very literally not much more than 1. The reviews I've read have been mixed. Some people like them and some don't. If you like it good for you. People I know who aren't into computers use them just for basic stuff, email, FB, storing photos, and playing a few desktop games. If they have kids they get a lot more use.

I think thats what they do to push you to upgrade your device. Slow or stop updates altogether on devices after 3 years and I think they decided this based on their cell phone business.. it gives you 2 years for your average cell contract and 1 more year of possible updates (I only received 1 update for my tablet that third year) before you are pushed to upgrade or you get left behind. Pretty awful.
This is why I switched from Andriod devices like Samsung to Nexuis or Pixel devices. They support their products longer and the updates are faster. I didnt like the Pixel C so I switched my tablet to a windows device. Sick of buying a new tablet every 2-3 years.
The updates are faster, but sadly the support isn't longer. Google gives updates 2 years from devices release, and security updates additional 1 year from devices release, or at least 18 months after it's sold by Google.
3 years and then getting people to buy a new device for more updates is their plan.
I think it's sad especially for more expensive devices. Quickly averages to $20 a month if you want to have more expensive device that's still getting security updates.
also.. I have been using Chromebook as my second computer for about 3 years now and its fantastic. I use it to watch youtube, watch movies, its used a LOT in my home. For my mother her Chromebook is her only computer and it does everything she needs it to

Let's not fool ourselves: I love my chromebook, but it cant run and never will run the types of programs that you need for it to be a true PC. It's great for all of the stuff you mentioned: internet streaming and basic word processing and spreadsheets. This will just give microsoft the ability to compete with these needs.

Even looking at your own comments, your mom uses a chromebook exclusively, but you use both. That is 50/50 there, and my guess was you helped guide her to get by with just a chromebook.
My guess is that most people buying Chromebooks are tech lovers and are simply adding it to their quiver of computing devices.
I think most people buying Chromebook are people who already have a Windows PC home, but want something mobile.
That doesn't make those people tech lovers. Most of them are students or people who need something lightweight and with good battery life for their profession.

LOL these aren't gaming PC's so why are you complaining? Why would you spend so much on a PC without a strong dedicated video card? The surface brand was never made for gaming, even without the windows 10 S version.
Also Windows 10S CAN be upgraded to windows 10 PRO..... which means you can install anything you want on it if you did... but why would you? There are hundreds of laptops better suited for gaming.

Only being able to run software from the windows store is a huge limitation especially when you consider that the windows store apps are not guaranteed to be virus free, so good luck with that, as you can't even install a decent antivirus/firewall program without having to pay an extra $50 for the priviledge. Ultimately, though, if you are depending on your AV product to provide total protection, you are doing something wrong. No AV software can protect against stupid. That doesn't mean that I recommend running around with no AV software at all, because we all do stupid things from time to time, but if your looking for a product that provides total protection, the only product that does that is unhooking your computer from the internet and never installing anything from any external device ever.
As far as Google v Bing - let's stop feeding the troll. It's a non-issue, as your free to use whichever, whenever, or even both at the same time if you want, without any other consequence. So why is it even being debated?
No they won't force you to go to 10S. More than likely they'll allow 10S users to upgrade in some fashion.
I just can't stand behind Samsung anymore. I used to have a tablet of theirs before.. they stopped supporting it after about 3 years. Then.. same thing happened with several of my other devices from them. They stop rolling out updates fairly quickly.. when they aren't exploding phones.

Well that, and the mismanagement of my note 7. Their hardware is usually strong. Their practices as of late I disagree with. 8 years ago I was impressed by them, but now I'm looking to other companies. Many use samsung parts, but they support their devices and care for their customers more.
Lets not forget that these products aren't exactly cheap.
This is certainly a big factor for me, when I make decision on a new device.

I have no doubt that there are plenty of people who need a full blown desktop/laptop and I am one of those people. No doubt at all, but I think its idiotic frankly to think the majority of home users need those items that only a traditional PC can do which is very literally not much more than 1. Run Steam and other games 2. Run Photoshop.
