LF Game without quest hubs or exclamation mark questing.

Hello,

After playing some newer games I really am beginning to hate the quest-on-rails style of leveling.

I'm looking for a newer game that has no quest hubs or exclamation marks above NPC heads to easily identify questing. Also a game that encourages slaughter to level.

 

Any ideas? Thank you.

    Sadly that game WAS FFXI,it still is in that there is no hand holding and no quest hubs per say,but what the y did was add in repeatable book burns for xp.Basically they sped up leveling 10 fold only to sell more xpacs which imo ruined the whole leveling experience.

    Square's stance on game design now rivals Blizzard's.meaningless main game all aiming at end game.Also the same reason i quit FFXIV, i am not into end gaming or item level gear grinds.

    Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

    If you are able to ignore the hearts quests indicated on the map, then GW2 might be for you.

    Elder Scrolls online doesn't have "!" dotting the landscape.

    Additionally, it doesn't really have quest hubs per se, so much as "quests". So you come across what seems like a town being overrun by daedra and the main quest of that area is to solve it. Along the way, while solving it, you might pick up a thing here and here to help the guards or rescue someone.

    But there is no grabbing 5 "!'s" and running to do them and running back for more.

    Additionally, while the main quest might move you through an area you don't have to do it or you can wander and explore the land choosing to do various quests or not.

    You can also turn off their version of exclamation marks, the triangles, if you wish.

     

    As to "encouraging slaughter" grinding is more efficient than questing and will get you levels faster.... thing is though, leveling in ESO is only one part of character growth. You grow chracters in ESO by spending skill points to unlock abilities and passives. Leveling only gets you about 30% of the available skill points. The rest come from finding skyshards, unlocking PVP ranks and from some dungeon and open world quest rewards. You need those other skill points or you're always going to be underpowered for your level.
