ESO official forums thread sinking and damage control

hg2012hg2012 CardiffPosts: 69Member

There seems to be quite a bit of controversial moderation going on over on the ESO forums, it appears to me they are trying to eliminate any form of criticism off their boards, with countless constructive threads sunk in order to take the heat off themselves.

They are also going through removing posts criticising this approach:

ZOS_JuhoJ 10:04AM

Greetings. We are contacting you to let you know that the following comment from the thread titled "Thread sinking" has been removed.

Starting to sound like North Korea Online rather than Zenimax Online..

Do we all have to get the same haircut as Paul Sage and bow to the glorious developers?

This was removed because it is in violation of The Elder Scrolls Online Forum Code of Conduct.
Inappropriate Content and Language: Certain topics and subjects are deemed inappropriate and not permitted on the official ESO forums. Things that we consider inappropriate are usually illegal, extremely volatile or violent, obscene, vulgar, or simply inappropriate for an official game forum such as ours. Inappropriate content on the ESO forums includes, but is not limited to the following:
Extreme violence
Illegal substances and activities
Pirated copyright-protected material
Pornography and other sexually explicit topics
Real-world religion and politics
Tasteless, vulgar, or obscene material
One specific term we’d like to call out, as well, is the term “gay.” It is never appropriate to use “gay” as a derogatory term.
Please understand that our goal is to create a fun, welcoming, and safe environment for The Elder Scrolls Online community, and continued violations of our Code of Conduct can lead to temporary suspension or permanent deactivation of your forum and game accounts. We encourage you to take a moment to review The Elder Scrolls Online Code of Conduct to prevent future infractions, warnings, or interruption of your access to the forums and the game.

With damage control like that maybe a sign things aren't going too well?

Lol you're kidding right? I mean they should of removed that post it was nothing more than a troll post.

You really think a post like that shouldn't have been removed?

While I think the game is god awful and is one of the worst MMO's released in the last 8 years your post deserved to be removed.

Sandbox means open world, non-linear gaming PERIOD!

Subscription Gaming, especially MMO gaming is a Cash grab bigger then the most P2W cash shop!

Bring Back Exploration and lengthy progression times. RPG's have always been about the Journey not the destination!!!

    Just leave the game.

Best poke in the eye any developer can get that their game is failing and keeps you happy too.

I think heavy moderation is great as it shows exactly what the forum and game it is associated with are like.

Indeed. As if there were no third party forums and other platforms where this kind of censoring gets ridiculed. In most games the official forums are a pain to read anyways, because too much moderation makes them shallow, bland and very uninformative.

If I was that mod the person posting that comment would have gotten a week in the "cooler" to reconsider their approach to forum interactions...

Yup, that was a troll post and obviously removed. So what was the problem, OP?

Who said I was unhappy with the game? I'm unhappy with the moderation practices and the fact that hot topics that are either asking for certain game changes or might be slightly critical but good constructive discussions are getting sunk in favour for overly positive threads. It's like they are not interested in feedback and are just using the forum as a PR tool, unless you got the rose tinted glasses on and are singing hymns for ZOS your threads probably going to end up on the sink list.

I suggest you read them, because this is exactly the issue I'm talking about, and while I admit my sense of humour might of been a little not for everyone's liking people have said worse and not been acted on so swiftly.

It's nothing new for Web administration to filter comments in favor of the hand that feeds them.

I wish they banned you from the forums too. You deserve far worse than what you got, I wish they would actually ban people in game that post trash like this on the forums.

    Currently Playing: ESO and FFXIV

If you mention rose tinted glasses, you better be referring to Mitch Hedberg.

Hmm comparing a gaming company with a dictator and murderer.

Yeah how dare them to remove the post - SO UNFAIR!!!

I have an entitlement delusion - because I have this strange idea that my 50$ should have the same value as anyone else's 50$
"Your account is not entitled to the same value as a new account. Just saying you are entitled to the same as someone else because you said so is exactly what expresses your entitlement issues."

Just had a look over hg2012 posts, nearly all negative slaps at ESO, like a previous guy said, it is a wonder you have not been banned on here.

Of course they should ban you, you do that and then come on here to troll, your attitude is priceless.

You are probably right but it's hard to differ with the amount of White Knights defending ESO.

Not so easy anymore to differ hate/troll posts from people who actually believe what they say.

Pretty much. If you enjoy a game you are a white knight or a fanboy, if you hate it you are a troll and a hater. Welcome to mmorpg.com.

OP that was a troll post, if you want to get banned, do it like I did in STO and that cost me a ban for life.

    My post was like this:

"Hey devs you can go and klss your chinesse masters butt". Insta perma ban LOL I liked it.

Trolling or not, their forums, they can do whatever they want, even beyond the "rules".

You have to pay a sub to view their forums.

Something is wrong when you need to heavily moderate your subscriber only forums.

We generally discourage bringing matters of outside forum moderation or drama over from a game forum (though we decide case by case). However, there has been this related thread open for a few days that you could've added onto: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/414944/Why-is-ZM-deleting-my-TESO-sale-posts-on-the-forums.html
