So, what are your MMO plans so far this year?

KopogeroKopogero Member UncommonPosts: 1,685

I had 4 MMO's I'm considering to start or go back for 2014. WOW, DCUO, EVE, Wildstar.

If I went back to WOW, it would only cost me $15 and I would be able to enjoy the PvP/arena I have over the last years. That's my 1st choice right now. I just dunno if it's worth paying a sub for arena PvP and I would also have to shell another $40 soon for expansion.

If I went back to DCUO it would also cost me $15 to unlock the couple of DLC's I've missed over the year. I would enjoy the PvP some of the new duos, alerts, raids and IP itself. DCUO does not have some PvP ranking, but I enjoy the combat far more than WOW and I can get into the action anytime alone in 1v1, 2v2, 4v4 etc. I'm mainly worried about how much fuel DCUO got left with the diminishing population to continue deliver publishes, content on pace.

EVE, only played this game for a month. But from the MMO's mentioned above it seems to be the most compelx and economy/sandbox engaging MMO. I would most likely not enjoy the first couple of months with poor ship and low income, but I might have far more fun in the long run. I would have to go through a big learning curve and I just wonder if it's not too late to start this MMO that people been playing for over a decade. The passive skill training and slow combat is its main drawback for me.

Finally, Wildstar. Does it worth to pay the box fee upfront and take the risk with this MMO? But more importantly does it worth to vote with my wallet on something that I clearly wish the genre to move on from. I simply do not trust the themepark formula by how many MMO's over the last 5 years have lost their momentum with it. Regardless, Wildstar would most likely be a fun ride for couple of months to kill before I go back to searching of new home due to lack of new rides. If WOW can't keep up with content? Can Wildstar do it?

Anyways, in 2 months from now I know what I'll enjoy again for free and that's Path of Exile new league on hardcore. With each league the game it's been improving and it clearly has a lot of issues to address, but it's been the filler game for me to kill some of the time while I've been waiting and waiting for "that" MMO.

So, those are my plans and I'll decide soon if I'll get engaged in some of those MMO's. What are your plans this year so far?

Well I'm involved with ESO right now and just chugging along slowly, no rush.

I'm hoping that'll last me right into the WoW WoD release. If not, the summer could be a dry time. No real plans, unless I can get FFARR for next to nothing. Otherwise, I might resub to SWTOR for a couple months? I've got Destiny on pre-order, so possibly that beta? Just got Landmark, so I'll probably send my kids in to check that out and pre-scan it before I touch it. That could possibly be a good time sink though. I'd love to try Wildstar, but I won't have 3 or 4 months to give to it, so I probably won't right now. Maybe pick up my DCUO toon on my PS4 for a bit?

Otherwise, I just resub to WoW early and level my druid. Only 90 tank class I'm missing right now.

I have SWTOR will be playing Wildstar and later I might check out Archage depending on how involved I am in Wildstar.

Try to ride Wildstar as long as possible then bounce between strategy games, Watch Dogs, Dragon Age and Landmark until Star Citizen and EQN come out or have better information released.

Possibly look into The Repopulation as well if it releases any time soon, but I worry it will become obsolete before it's even released.

I'm just happy I have something to play for the next few weeks/months.

The path to the end of the year is unclear for me right now.

ESO was supposed to be "the one", but I've kind of run out of steam with it. I like the game, warts and all, but the path from where I am now (lv 36) to VR10 just seems paved with long hours of solo questing and I find myself tuning out after a couple of hours. Taking a break for the moment.

I resubbed to SWTOR and am enjoying it again. I don't know how long it will last but for the moment I am enjoying the Agent and Sorceror storylines and just chugging along without really questioning it. Not sure why this is engaging me more than ESO, maybe it's the "Star Wars magic".

Other than that, I'll be getting into Elite: Dangerous premium beta this Friday, so expecting that to eat up some time while I explore and hone my skills.

I am unsure about Wildstar. I think it will be a solid and feature-rich game, but my boredom with ESO makes me think I am over the traditional themepark set up. I have ground out questlines to level up just one too many times to be engaged by it in any game these days. I am keeping a close eye on The Repopulation in case this delivers a different experience. For the same reasons I am not really drawn to ArcheAge. I played 20 levels in AA RU and have alpha access, but it just didn't pull me in.

As always I flirt with the idea of going back to EVE. I adore the sandbox elements of it, and get excited when I read about the game. But always, after a couple of weeks of playing, I find the experience a bit dry. I never really figured out how to make decent ISK to just throw ships at PVP, so end up spending a lot of time missioning and/or mining to try to support my PVP fun, and then the game feels like work!

Continue playing Final Fantasy 14.  Try to get ArcheAge to work on my old PC.  I go back into surgery soon so I'll probably be to out of it to do much.

I am checking out "Villagers & Heroes" on Steam.  I might pick up WoW again for a month to see if I can get my toons to level 90.  I'll have classes in the fall, so whatever I'm playing then will be put away for another year or so.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

  • furbansfurbans Member UncommonPosts: 968

Sticking out with WoW and get a couple of toon to 90 with gear.  When 6.0 hits I'm sure there will be a surge of activity with the 1 guaranteed heirloom drop off Garry happens and people testing out the new systems in place.

But really this year will be more of the single player games.  Dragon Age Inquisition, Pillars of Eternity, The Darkest Dungeon, and Wastelands 2 all greatly have my interest perked and will be nice distractions in this long boreish lull in WoW while waiting for Warlords.

Elite: Dangerous. The public alpha test went very well. It's currently started beta testing and should be released around September this year.

Only ones are Planetside2, The Repopulation, and EQNLandmark. Then EQN whenever that comes.

So far I am just planning on getting my $150 worth from my Archeage Founders pack , after that I'm waiting for Star CItizen and maybe will play Destiny in between.

Mostly Wildstar for now, but as Everquest Landmark fleshes out, it will probably end up being my main game.

I will hopefully be playing SWTOR and PSO2 SEA for the next few months. Then I have Destiny on pre-order for the 360 and would like to check out Star Citizen and Elite dangerous. Also if The Crew and The division are out this year then I might try them , if I own the platforms they come out on.

    Cheers,

    BadOrb.

Frankly I don't plan to play much this summer, a little GW2 between rock festivals and spending time with friends. i live in a country with snow in the winters, rain the entire autumn and unreliable weather in spring so I ain't gonna waste the summer gaming when I can do that when the weather turns crap.

But I plan to pick up something new this autumn, not sure what though. Maybe AA or WS?

I will probably give ArcheAge a try and The Repopulation if it comes out this year. Although not MMOs the Division and Watchdogs look interesting and I will try those also. Until then I will continue with BF4 and Fallen Earth occasionally.
  • ReklawReklaw Member UncommonPosts: 6,495

ESO for now. Might take a break from ESO because getting Watchdogs this week.

Scratched EQN of my list for now. At the same time I am worried about The Repopulation and Star Citizen becoming F2P sandbox games.

ArcheAge might be second on my want list but first want to see how much damage today's critics do to it.

  • SomeHumanSomeHuman Member UncommonPosts: 560

MMORPG's - I'm taking STO and SWTOR for a run until ArcheAge is available.  If those two lose my interest, I'll probably try DF:UW.  I keep trying to get back into GW2, but it just isn't as fun the second time around.

FPS/PVP: BF4, I got premium on launch, and even with some of the issues, I love the game.  I'm slowly taking the completionist route on this one for items and achievements.

MOBA: I never liked this style of gaming, but I tried them all over the last few months, and I'm liking Dawngate.  So, when I'm out of the mood for other styles of gaming, I'll be in that game.

Other: Any interesting Alphas or Betas that come along; Hearthstone for TCG

And when it's not gaming time (mid-day heat in Texas), I'll be in the gym, on the trail, in a book, or in the pool.  Ah, summer, I can't wait!

I'm in a position where there really isn't anything out there for me. Not bitter about it either, but there just isn't.

Age of Wulin did change my outlook on things a lot, but I can't really spend the time required to commit to it (probably not in the foreseeable future either). I'm looking for a similar game that's a bit more streamlined and casual, but has good opportunities for social interaction and open world (hopefully skill-based) PvP.

There are a few games that interest me in that regard, but they're still fairly far off.

In the meantime, I might go and try a few F2P titles that I haven't yet tried. Or heck, go back to SW:TOR and work on some more casual PvE / PvP and finishing some class stories. I find that game much more enjoyable than WoW in its current incarnation.

I'd actually also like to go back to Aion, because I had quite a lot of fun just running around doing rifts and PvP. But the European publisher is crap, the same goes for a number of other titles that I would otherwise try.

Archeage also interests me, but as I can't commit to anything at the moment, $150 dollars is too much of an entry fee. For the actual release I also fear being far behind alpha testers and having to crawl out of a deep pit as those with first-hand knowledge of mechanics race ahead. The same thing happened in AoW with those who had pre-emptive knowledge from the Chinese and US versions.

Feel free to use my referral link for SW:TOR if you want to test out the game. You'll get some special unlocks!

At the moment i play DoTA2 with a few friends as my pvp fix and on and off a session Battlefield.

Then a multiplayer session Football Manager with a friend in preparation for the upcomming FIFA World Cup.

And on and off DayZ SA depending on updates.. but it still misses a lot of important features, and i don't like Betas.. so i don't play a lot  (i may have a look at H1Z1, but i don't expect a lot)

For MMOs.. i will try out ArcheAge, when it will be available.. and hopefully it will be interesting for some time (neither ESO nor WS really delivered.. just tried some Beta Weekends, but i can't stand another Themepark anymore.. and the ESO pvp was not that compelling, especially with the required grind)

Games i will test or play in the future, but are more or less far away, are Star Citizen(backed), Elite Dangerous, EQN, Camelot Unchained, SotA, and Pathfinder Online... and maybe some more Indy Sandbox(like Repopulation) could be surprisingly fun.. although i have my doubts about those very indy projects. But all of them are far off, and most of them are uncertain when it comes down to gameplay and what to expect from them.

And i usually don't play Beta for a long time(just for first impressions).. so early access isn't my cup of tea.. i really prefer a more finished game, with all features and less bugs. With that said.. i don't expect a lot of MMOing this year. AA is most probably my only shot for a longer session this year.

Alternating between SWTOR and TSW. I might try EQ2 Landmark when it will come live, then probably jump into Dragon Age: Inquisition for a while. And maybe re-playing The Witcher 2 or even The Witcher 1 in anticipation of the final The Witcher 3 in 2015.

Started playing Eve last summer (after getting tired of GW2) and will probably keep playing throughout this one as well. It's definitely not too late to start (plenty of new people giving the game a try all the time). I can't complain about my first months in the game after I figured that mining was a waste of my time and not something I wanted to do. But then I did pick activities I could do early on like exploration in low-sec, station/regional trading and when I found a good corp small gang T1 cruiser/frigate PvP.
