I saw a dev video where Trion spoke about this.
They said they changed the name because it looked like it was pronounced 'fairy' or 'furry' and they didn't want people calling it that, so asked XLGames if they could change the name of the race, and XLGames agreed to it.
Hey, these are made up and purely artificial names - other than "Great you have found similarities" there is really nothing else to it. But really, this is a game. Nothing is carried over to RL, nothing important to be found, end of story.
