ESO: Falls on it's sword-Mass Lockout Account foul ups No Login

UnleadedRevUnleadedRev Member UncommonPosts: 568

Well.....I guess because I really liked this MMORPG it was bound to self implode.

This morning, thousands of subscribers cannot login.

ESO's explaination? Fiasco!

The message is account credentials are wrong....looks like a mass hack of accounts?

Early access is over so you need to set up a subscription plan to start the 30 days free play that comes with the first month.

Otherwise you can't log in anymore.

You would have thought they would have taken care of this before hand, then you would have thought they would have taken care of it after the logging into other peoples accounts incident, and now what's the excuse?

With respect to security there is also a thread going about how when you ignore someone your account name is given to that person.

    What a mess.

Apparently, you need to set up a sub plan, if not you are locked out.

    Read my post above.

You just have to apply a subscription plan on the website and it gets solved. No one got hacked :)

Unfortunately you have an hour queue to apply that sub plan.

just follow the prompts that come up when you open the launcher... just not the "it is quick and easy part"  there is a queue over 1-hour at the moment.

    What a fucking joke.

If we have 30 days we should not need a sub-plan. Why suddenly require every user to create sub-plan at the same time? I'm in a queue now for over an hour. So do i really want to make myself available for an hour so I can get their god damn plan, so I can get the 30 days i'm already entitled to? Or I could wait until i want to play later and deal with the same queue bullshit, then.

The downtime, and the glitches, weren't a big deal but this really pisses me off.

What is their plan anyways, hope people who quit don't pay attention and get charged for another month? This is worth roadblocking everyone now?

  • UnleadedRevUnleadedRev Member UncommonPosts: 568

You cannot even get to the page to buy a subscription!

    LOL What FAIL!

I am very close to saying I am done with this game and all subscription games.

    Phew.

I've taken a step back, and will now go about my day in peace. It's quite easy to get on the hyperbole bandwagon and blow shit way out of proportion.

    That is all.

You guys let little things bother you so much, just quit then.

This is standard practice for many mmos that have a sub,(not all) so it comes as a surprise to many of those new to the genre.

I bought my pre-order direct from Zenimax and they told me then the same card would be automatically be signed up for a month sub.

It appears the process is optimized for those who went that route.

I can't remember the last time I was required to sub before my free game time ran out. Actually, now that I think about it, it may have been daoc. They stopped doing it years ago though, that is when they still sold boxes.

Each and every mmo that launched needs to be "activated" with a subscription with a few exceptions.
Gues many people never played a sub based mmo before ? LOL

i can't remember ever playing a subscription based mmo without having to put in a credit card number before receiving the 30 days free. and i've played most large titles since 99. the only one i can recall not having to put in a credit card number after buying the game itself to set up the subscription was guild wars 2, for obvious reasons.

That is what I was thinking too. I don't recall any MMO I have played which I needed to make up the Sub plan before the 30 days are up. Typically it has been 30 days are almost up, subscribe now option or wait till the time is up.

I guess they just want to be sure to get as much money as they can after the 30 days is up. So those who decide not to sub will probibly  will be charged for the next month because they didn't give two weeks notice before the charge. Since most games need a few days notice before cancelling payments.

It's probably the early access that's throwing me off. There's always a song and dance when initially setting up an account, but i'm not used to being interupted after the fact. Since I did the stress test I was already setup.

so you have never played EQ, EQ2, wow, SWTOR, and every other sub based mmo out there that used this same exact practice?

i'm logged in right now as i sit in the queue to set up my subscription plan.

i think it may only be required for physical copies and/or digital copies purchased from 3rd party websites.

Yes I have played every single one of those games. And Ultima Online, Final Fantasy, Anarchy Online, Vanguard, SWG, Matrix and most other popular Sub based MMOs. And I didn't put billing info untill or just before the  trials were up.

No you didn't, or your memory isn't working right. Every single one of those games required you to set up a subscription in order to begin playing.
