I'm sure others are slightly (or even more than slightly) annoyed that there are two acronyms commonly being used!

    The trademark is "The Elder Scrolls"

     

    There is a derived trademark "The Elder Scrolls Online".

    NOTE:  It's true that their web site uses ESO as the TLA when referring to the game, but the logo and trademark spelled out includes "The".  I guess they wanted 3 letters instead of 4.  If they want it abbreviated ESO but called "The Elder Scrolls Online" I guess that's their choice.

    It is odd to include "The" as part of an acronym.

    Further oddity is that the word "the" is not a part of their logo.

    The is a descriptor. It is not part of the name.

    It is all moot though I'm sure the TS is the only one with a horse in this race.

    I agree that "the" should be left off of the acronym.

    Also, while on the subject of "the", since when is it okay to alphabetize titles by the word "the"? This site does it, as do many others. I thought that you alphabetized with the first letter of the first word after "the" in a title, no?

    Never make an acronym longer than it needs to be.  You're using an acronym in the first place to shorten the real name.
