Black Desert: Russian Localization Underway

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

According to Black Desert Fansite (via Goha.ru), the Russian language localization of Black Desert is already underway. Goha.ru recently scored an interview with PearlAbyss to talk about the localization efforts, though the Russian publisher has not yet been named for internal reasons.

Q: Did you choose the company that will publish Black Desert on the Russian market?

A: Yes, we have chosen the Russian publisher, but at the moment we can’t disclose the name of the company due to several internal reasons. Nevertheless, Black Desert will be published in Russia soon, much earlier than in North America or EU. We hope that our Russian partner will make the announcement soon.

Q: What qualities you took in consideration when choosing the Russian partner?

A: The most important factor for us was the publisher’s experience on the Russian MMO market, and how well is he familiar with the Russian users. Concidering these factors, we are fully satisfied with our choice.

Q: Did you already decide on a monetization system for Russia? Will it be different from the Korean version?

A: Regarding the monetization system we studied several aspects together. We still have to discuss the details with our Russian publisher so everything will depend on the outcome of these discussions. Perhaps the monetization system will be different.

Q: Does the Korean side intend to control the quality and localization services provided by the Russian publisher?

A: Every localization responsibility rests on the publisher. Pearl Abyss will do everything that is possible to support the publisher in order to create the highest quality Black Desert localization for the Russian players.

Q: How often will you update the Russian version with the latest Korean patches?

A: We got a lot of feedback from Russian players and we already know about their desires and interests for Black Desert. So, we will do our best to update the Russian version as soon as possible after adding some updates to the Korean version. For this we plan to work closely with our partner.

Thanks to WNXSnowTiger for the tip!

I've been keeping an eye on this title ever since I heard it's first mention. Sadly, it's in the same boat as ArchAge was, which has taken so long for a Western localization that I've lost interest. I hope Black Desert is different, but I don't expect to see this in Western markets for so long that other games may have my interest by then, sadly.

I struggle to understand why Western Publishers are so slow in catching Asian trends.

    First Archeage, now this.

When those games arrive in US/EU, they will be already outdated.

I mean why SoE have to import crap like Dragon Prophet and Wizardry Online, instead of games that people are hyped for like AA and Black Desert?

What is it that we're doing wrong? ArcheAge is published everywhere on Earth before the US. Now it appears that Black Desert is going the same route. Has the dollar devalued that much? Is there a sign at Customs that says, "We Hate Sandboxes"?

Makes sense, most US and many EU gamers either don't stick with games (just look at the ranting on these forums), or simply expect so much from every title that devs prefer to simply leave the market for last.

On the flip side, just because there hasn't been any news on a western release doesn't mean they're not working towards one, might just not have found a good publisher yet to iron out the schedule.

NIce, glad to hear its moving forward.

While I wish a US version was well in the works already I wont hold my breath, I will be grabbing the Japanese client went its released since it more than likely will be well over a year before it sees the light of day here.

One guess is language. Lets take TRION's example with ArcheAge. Russia only has to worry about 1 localization. TRION has to take care of 3 languages NA/EU. My guess is that may be one of the top 3 factors as to why the game is released in the western market last. Cost might be another major factor as well between regions.

I like others have kept a watchful eye but in no way am i going to hype it up other than to say it is worthy of following.

All i can say for now is it looks good visually but as for systems, nobody knows if they have any depth or if they are any good at all,we will have to wait and see......RU you tube here we come lol.

Stop bashing us Russkies for getting crap Korean games earlier than you! Stop avoiding the REAL question: why do we still get such limited access to top western titles (IP blocks, no localization etc.)? Everyone and their mum knows we have a good market for online entertainment now! Go with the times ffs, we've all become a global community now (Chinese excluded). I want ESO and WildStar localized and with collector's box available in Russia! Please.

It seems that the western market doesn't approve of Asian mmorpgs anymore. They prefer darker/cartoonish style of western mmorpgs rather than anime/realistic style of Asian mmorpgs. You can see it here on this forum, where Asian mmorpgs don't get that much attention.

Make no assumptions how Europe or NA being this or that, its all about the market options.

I think it has to do with game quality - Aion was very popular at launch, it was a solid game.

If it's a good game, and if it's localized right - it would be popular here.

I think western audience is very picky when it comes to localization, poorly localized games don't stand a chance, we expect perfection.

    Agreed. And it's sad...

What is this? Cyber-racism? I myself hate most of the korean mmo's, I have to vomit all over the wall and then out the window if i see those ugly interfaces and homo dudes.

BUT, that doesn't mean they can't produce a PHENOMENAL project like Black Desert, or Arche Age! Who the freaking hell cares about the origin of an mmo in the west, if all the gameplay vids give the impression of MEDIEVAL EUROPE?? While maintaining clean interfaces and realistic animations/combat??

They say: "Nevertheless, Black Desert will be published in Russia soon, much earlier than in North America or EU."

What is this a joke? We invented mmo's, and now there would be no publishers, for the mmo of the decade?? Well, what the hell are the publishers publishing instead? They are busy doing what? MMO's are huge business, (kind of shrinking thanks to the free leecher low-standard noobs), but still huge. Waaay too huge for the entirety of the western culture's publishers to ignore a HIGHLY potential product like BD.

They have analyzed the market totally wrong. There is GIGANTIC player-bases for this kind of game both in Europe and US. Even if this game seemed too "asain", why wouldn't it seem so asain for the russians? BUT IT DOESN'T LOOK ASAIN in a bad sense in the first place!! IT LOOKS AWESOME. It is much less themeparky than other mmos and actually looks much more brutal and less childish. Opposite of GW2.

If the EU/US release is gonna come out more than half year after the russian I'm seriously going to murder someone so look out. And if you also want the game to come out, don't duck in the corner saying to yourself  "Oh well, 2 years for localizition of a digital game, let's wait then". Whole gaming industry is suffering because no-one knows what the gamer wants. TELL THEM YOU WANT THIS GAME.

Imagine 5 million players played this game in the west and payed 15 dollars a month. That's 7.5 million dollars raw income per month. Obviously the net income is way lower but for them to say, "Well we will schedule the west for a later time" is like if an iOS developer who just created the best game ever said:  "well 2 years later I may release it to android".

    Seriously bullshit.

RU MMO community is  more PvP oriented thats why. Hope that they`ve picked right publisher. RU Archeage publisher killed it even before the release.

And why the hell would you think that? Maybe russians like to gank poor guys on european servers plenty of times in different games, but the western gamer likes challenges and competition just as much. What killed wow  for me is the over-structurization of pvp. I loved pvp maybe most in wow and there are plenty of people like me.

I haven't played Tera because it looked ugly to me, same with Aion. But this game doesn't, what is more it looks so beautiful and content that it makes me write these lines for hours in hunger, while wienerschnitzels and spaghetti are waiting for me downstairs and also I have a pretty happy life.

there r planty of Asian PvP oriented MMOs still running profit on russian MMO market. Some of them even were never  released in EU or NA, and if they were the servers are dead.
