I like the dev.  I'm not getting the game though because if there's other customers like the OP that got everything without issue, then I'm not willingly walking into a headache of having to deal with that kind of community.  So, I'm going to opt for a pass.

Most devs today put them selves above the gamer playing their game and when they get any feed back they don't like they ban lol what is gaming coming to. Use to be they had to pay for people testing their game now they get paid and to top it off they dont want honest opinions just opinions that promote their game or BAN BAN BAN.

Who said he didn't have the right to be mad?

The point is, he didn't have the right to be uncivil.

Let's see if you can see the difference:

    Example A:

I am very upset about my recent transaction. The money has been withdrawn from my account, yet I haven't received my key. Customer Service has been difficult to reach and unhelpful at best. I'd like a resolution to this situation a.s.a.p. or I regret I will not be a continuing customer.

    Example B:

Let's start a spam campaign! That'll teach those heartless bastards!

You see - they were both mad. They both expressed their concern. One example will get you banned - one will not. Neither may get results, but guess which has a better chance?

Just because a company's actions raised your emotions, does not give you license to lose control of them.  Personally, I am embarassed when I lose control of my emotions, especially for the world to see  - even more so when I put it in writing.

Stop thinking about your rights as a consumer and think instead about what kind of a person you want to be.

The first thing I thought when I read the OP - get a hold of yourself man, have some dignity.

Well said and good advice.  However, I'm not sure I want to buy a game from someone who has so little control of his emotions that he gloats over being able to tell his ruder customers to fuck off.  I see issues with the conduct of both parties here.

I am convinced there is only one way to eliminate these grave evils, namely through the establishment of a socialist economy, accompanied by an educational system which would be oriented toward social goals.

Facepunch is far from the only forum that bans people who refuse to read or adhere to the rules stickied all over the forum, I really hope this thread didn't change a lot of peoples minds regarding Rust.

If you look at the Rust forum display: http://facepunch.com/forumdisplay.php?f=415 the third sticky you see is presumably the only one that was available at the creation date of this post, namely this one http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1307101

After buying Rust and going on the forums and seeing this sticky, I could not help but to facepalm over recalling this thread. Not only did OP in this thread as well as in the Rust thread use the forum instead of the ticket system as they were instructed, they then proceeded to encourage spam as well as visibly losing their cool and being rude.

The only thing I see being done wrong here is permabanning the OP who encourages spam and then not responding immediately with the reply about the backlog, other than that there is no valid argument that Gary acted out of emotion or anger when he banned these people, in fact he is the one being professional in this situation and moderating his forums according to forum rules and policy.

Some might argue that being professional, is taking all the crap customers will throw at you with a smile in the hopes that they will bring their business back to you for being patient with them, however I dont agree with this. Any self-respecting individual or group will refuse to acknowledge or help people who are rude (unless they enjoy being verbally abused), so I don't see why businesses should do any different. Just because you are in the business of making money doesn't mean you are nor should be a whore for cash.

Lets also take into account that banning these 'paying customers' from the forums in no way impact their service or their ability to play the game, it simply bars them from spreading their toxic attitude to the forum community. Now these two are forced to use support tickets when they are having issues, like they should have been doing in the first place.
