Player Vote MMORPG of the Year!

bcbullybcbully Member EpicPosts: 11,838

The year comes to an end. I'm sure a lot of you know my pick, Age of Wushu. Here's why -

Age of Wushu brought to the genre a Civil FFA pvp world, along with dozens of never seen before systems. Most impressive of which is the crime and punishment/alignment system.

No they did not spend millions on ad campaign, instead they focused on creating original working system for an legendary Ming era world.

Wushu's year was not without problems though. Bots plagued the first months after launch, and gold seller spam still remains. Customer service was not up to standards at launch either. Since then credit is due. 24/7 in game support was added and forum moderators answer forum question quickly.

Even with issue, the "new" that Wushu brought far out weighed the problems caused by nefarious 3rd parties. AoW is the first mmorpg since I left WoW 4 years ago that I have played for over a year. I logged some ridiculous hours too.

What's your GotY??! Why???

Sorry, none of those are what I would vote for. But I am curious what others will choose. I would pick WoW, SWToR, GW2, or even TSW over any of those listed. Hopefully next year will be a bit better.

Death is nothing to us, since when we are, Death has not come, and when death has come, we are not.

I'm surprised that you haven't put Mortal Online in the list, to sit proudly next to Scarlet Blade.... great list :))

Sorry BCB, I wouldn't choose anything on that short list.

I'll go with Age Of Wulin(european version), let's face it if a western dev team came up with some of the features of the game we wouldn't hear the last of it.

Take the offline system as an example.

goty generally has to launch in that calendar year, which is why the list is what it is.

I would of voted defiance because I "was" really enjoying the story and game play..but, it's so short and ends with just typical grind like, shoot a big rock till it blows up...I'm not really sure I have a vote.

I think the game I played most this year is warframe, but it's not really an mmo. It is a very fun multiplayer game though. I'd be bored silly if I played it solo.

I haven't played AoW so i can't really comment on it, and as my PC is in the living room, Scarlet Blade was pretty much out of the question, pretty sure the wife would think i was involved in something porn related if i hadimage

But FFXIV;ARR gets my vote, its a great game now, and one i think i'll probably be playing for at least the next few years, the graphics are excellent, and the music is just totally awesome, in that regard it is probably the best game i've ever played, the music really gets into my head, and i mean that in a really good way! Even the movie at the title screen of the game, i have lost count of the amount of times i've watched it, it really is that good, and that movingimage

To be fare you have to give them props for the turnaround but as for innovation it's pretty standard fare.

Used to be here on MMORPG.com, when they held the player's choice EOY awards "None of the above" was on the list, until the year "None of the above" actually won the MMORPG of the Year, now they don't let us have that option.

But seeing how "show results" is so far leading in the voting, I'd say 2013 is yet another year that "None of the Above" would likely dominate.

I did not play any of the listed titles, because none of them brought anything interesting enough to get me to the table to even try them.

I will confess, AOW did seem to be the most innovative of the group, unfortunately my own limitations in the sort of combat kept me from giving it a try, along with the reported bad customer service, which I just won't abide so at the end of the day, I didn't give it a whirl, but I will confess to being tempted.

Unfortunately that was released last year, or it would be my vote as well.  That's the problem with MMOs and GotY awards.  They only have one year to get GotY, and usually the best of a game or expansion comes the year after.

Voted Neverwinter but even though its a decent game, thats not saying much.  Nothing great was released in 2013.

None, most of them will last for 3 months, then you get fed up, uninstall, and move to something else.   Might as well declare WoW / Maple Story the winner, any of those 2 got more active players then all GoTY choices combined. I'd even throw MineCraft as GoTY. :)

Well technically AoW has about as many as WoW and MS combined, but who counts china right?

2013 was very deserving of Scarlet Blade

Man it's painful to think those are the games we got this year.

Even though the responds in this thread are more about crying of what's listed looks like % are correct with my liking. FFXIV ARR defenetly is the 2013 mmorpg of the year.

Wushu has the most promise on that list but FF is a  more enjoyable game at the moment so I had to go with that. I wonder what Wushu would be like with an EVE-like payment model and serious crackdown on goldsellers though? There are so many cool ideas in that game but just a couple of  big issues that stop me from enjoying it.
