Champions Online: Customizing Your Aura

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Champions Online players have the opportunity to check out a new developer blog that lays out the details for customized auras. Players will be able to have more than one aura active at any given time. The blog goes into more detail about how the new system will work.

At this point you might be wondering: How do we get these awesome new Aura items? Some Auras will be rare loot from missions, and the majority will be in the C-Store, like costume sets. Additionally, Auras that were previously on passive powers will be added to the Q-Store as Legacy Auras. This was done to give players more thematic possibilities and customization, so you have more flexibility to choose how your hero's powers look.Every player will be given a token to get one of these Legacy Aura items for free.

We’re incredibly excited about this new system and we can’t wait to see the incredible combinations players will come up with. The Aura System is available now on the Public Test Server. If you're a Gold subscriber and haven’t signed up for the PTS server yet, you can do so here.

In addition to the above, development has basically stopped since the loot revamp, which I guess was just to align everything with their microtransaction strategy.  Every few months, they release a new graphics thingy, but rarely produce substantial new content that isn't just recycled assets to make a slightly different episode.  As much as I didn't like Cryptic, I like it even less under the PWE empire.

I whole heartedly agree. In my mind I can't stop/remove the correlation between asians and asian gold farmers/sellers.

We also see this in asian gaming through lockboxes and their microtransactions.

I like the game alot but as others have said the lockboxes are a killer.  Especially when the key to open them is not even a low chance mob drop and requires Zen (real world $)  and/or farming quesonite to covert to Zen.

Yup!  It basically ruined STO as well.

Let's not even talk what they did With Neverwinter With their utter greed!

All you see is big pop ups when someone opened a loot Box.

It's like you are entering a Casino instead of a game. /facepalm

PWE and Cryptic go hand in hand, they were made for each other. It's times like these where I really miss city of heroes

CoH is clearly showing Cryptic's capabilities, and I think Cryptic and PWE don't go all the way hand in hand as you wrote... I'm not happy either that they engulfed Cryptic, but if you see their other games, CO, STO and Neverwinter are maybe the least greed-saturated ones among them.

Which doesn't mean the whole lockbox shenanigan isn't bad (of course it is bad), only that the other PWE games are much worse...

(and yep, I miss CoH too sometimes)

To the news, I don't really understand it, and not because of its ties to the cash shop. CO is a superhero game, and superheroes are notorious for sticking to their costumes :) that's almost part of the character. Who would collect / purchase truckloads of auras?

"Nice job, but who are you again? I'm [random superhero name] but we've met already, I just saved you yesterday... Sorry, but I don't recognized you, where's your costume?" :)

New aura slot, separate aura storage with a starting space of 40 (!), seriously? Different looks for every day of the month, and a few more for those special days? :)

I know Cryptic is great at character customisation, but this time with CO, I think it's maybe not the brightest idea...

yup game was  ruined as soon as pwe  aka lockbox cash adventure got their  hands on it taking away the original  freedom of the  game  and  putting 95% of the costumes to cash shop and too many  lockbox drop to even  count them. and  i log in once and a  while 1 zone of main city with 80 people in it. it needs to change or  die at this  point

I have seen 5 instances with 80+ players in each many times at Millennium City.  Across all my characters I have like 700 unopened lockboxes.
