PC Gamer Review of MWO (83/100)

PC Gamer Review:

Piranha’s work to modernize MechWarrior is admirable. MWO’s layered mechanics facilitate intricate combat that’s deep, balanced, and--most importantly--satisfying in your hands. That almost singular focus on combat design does leaves MWO slim on modes and tutorials as well as with some rough UI in key places like the MechLab, but not at the expense of this very entertaining foundation that happens to form a solid footing for the future.

Slightly overpriced, but a more than worthy successor to one of PC gaming’s greatest franchises that nails the important part: combat.

83/100

These are the same people that gave Total War: Rome2 an 85 at release, and that game is the biggest POS to release in years, probably since the very first Total War game. Rome2 doesn't even work for many people, has the worst AI in the series, dumbed down game mechanics, and is still bug ridden and not very functional several months and 5 patches later. How can it possibly get an 85?

It is clear the PCGamer reviewer played Rome2 for an hour or two at most, which is/was not long enough to see the many faults and glaring weaknesses in the game design and execution.

And that is EXACTLY what happened with their review of MWO.

An 83 rating does not make MWO any better than the shallow, generally low rated game it is.

They probally got paid by the company that made/hosts MWO to give it a higher review, it happens all the time. Better to go to like gamefaqs or something and look at the average user rating, since its by players who aren't paid to give it a good review.

What do you do in the game? is it all pvp or is there some pve stuff too?

Being a pessimist is a win-win pattern of thinking. If you're a pessimist (I'll admit that I am!) you're either:

    A. Proven right (if something bad happens)

    or

    B. Pleasantly surprised (if something good happens)

Either way, you can't lose! Try it out sometime!

This does seem to be much higher than the other reviews/reports I've heard about the game.

Edit: Well, upon further reading, seems like they nailed the combat model, and the author really enjoys this sort of combat so not so surprising he's rated it somewhat higher than others, especially anyone looking for more of a MMORPG.

Yeah, PGI allways was open aboput their approach, that they would start very small and expand upon a solid foundation - the combat.
The combat atm is quite well, not in the most intuitive way, but much fun as it has changed to a broader Metagame where many playstyles are viable.
The game is more stable than ever.

So i would say 83 is on the high road as well as 5.4 from MMORPG.com is on the low road.

Now PGI needs to devlier the combat overarching gameplayelements.

Though its already a game that can give you hours of fun for free (and still be a Top-Dog if you are good enough)!
