Jagex has announced that Runescape Bonds will be introduced into the game as a way to eliminate gold farmers once and for all. Jagex has taken an assertive stand against gold farming and has removed over three trillion gold from the game. More than 40% of players buy gold in any month, something Jagex feels is unacceptable. To combat that statistic, Bonds are incoming. Check out this informative video and then tell us what you think.

Looks pretty much like the system EVE has with PLEX...man, havn't played RS in years.
It's also pretty crazy that 40% of the playerbase is buying gold like that. Must be why so many items are crazy expensive with all that cash in the system and being bought.
Somebody, somewhere has better skills as you have, more experience as you have, is smarter than you, has more friends as you do and can stay online longer. Just pray he's not out to get you.
Bah his explanation did NOTHING at all to say nothing at all.
All he is saying is that they have some new RMT item they want you to buy,how is selling an rmt item going to remove rmt gold sellers?
So much is unclear but sounds like a gold sink to buy the time, well the rmt farmers who will have bots and even more gold than players will be able to buy even more items/Bonds and sell them instead.
So now instead of players buying gold from some rmt site they will buy Bonds.I bet those items sell for more than they are worth just like EQ2's similar system.
Here is a funny and odd thing,if they know the numbers so well they must be able to track all the rmt easily,so then what is the problem?OK first of all it is free to play,so you will NEVER stop rmt botters, they will immediately add a new account right after you ban them.MOST rmt are smart enough to use new accounts to spread the sales and keep vet botters for farming.
This is VERY simply a new marketing gimmick to a game that has a really bad structure, this game should serve as the perfect proof that f2p is a horrible business structure for games, well unless you love cheating and botting and RMT.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
Its more like:
We have now found a new and better way to make money, instead of letting all the farmers take the profit from our game
Fighting goldsellers is not particularly difficult, it's just quite expensive to do, because the only effective way to do it is with real people.
But no game company wants to double or triple or even quadruple their payroll bills. It's more than some of them could afford anyway. So they try to do "the best that they can", which is slapping bandaids on a sucking wound.
This system will most likely do very little to the 3rd-party RMT in the game. Those guys will simply undercut the game developer. The goldsellers will always be "better value" than the actual game company, which is why you'll find them in all F2P games as well.
There is only ONE way to significantly reduce (not end) 3rd party RMT in an MMO: "Remove the ability for players to do any form of trade with each other."
So... the blizzard "D3" method of combating gold selling eh? Pretty sure that hurt the game...
Nice try coating in YOU selling YOUR OWN game gold as being a way to combat gold sellers. You know people can easily see through this right?
LOL! Are they stupid or what?
So now you can buy that bong item that gives you all this, with your in-game wealth... which means in-game gold... which means people will still buy gold!

They won't be buying gold, because bonds aren't a gold fountain, players only trade bonds between each other, so they are transferring, not creating gold.
Exactly, Jagex did that before, but the players complained, a lot, so they re-enabled trading in the game.
That is also wrong, since Botany Bay earlier this year, and the introduction of JAG, Jagex is completely aware of how many accounts there are per IP, so they also ban the IP itself.
And players aren't buying gold from Jagex in any way, they are buying from the other players, through the trading of the Bonds, so they are basically legalizing rather than creating a way for players to buy gold from the company. And they are legalizing something that half the players already do.
So Jagex is doing the same as many countries are with drugs and drug trafficking, they are legalizing it, and selling it themselves.
Ironically, the struggle for F2P games is not in combatting currency or item sales for real money, the struggle is how to make players do it more !
Of course, once you have gotten the players completely used-to buying things in your game with real money, the REAL struggle begins: How to make sure the players spend those real dollars with YOU, not your ingame competitors !
i'm glad they're trying something to actually combat this.
however, its hilarious that he's talking like a politician or a doctor speaking to you about a life threatening illness.
illness IS serious.
gold farming? not so much in the same league of 'serious'.

Not really.
Players can buy bonds with gold.
Players still need gold.
Gold keeps getting farmed.
Gold is traded into bonds.
Which part did you not get mate? lol

"40% of our playerbase are cheating scumbags"
Thats not a very nice thing to say about your customers
Agreed, it sounds like there is a problem with the game if so many players feel they need to buy the extra gold just to play it!
Also, why not implement a filter on the chat system such as that in gw2. If you say the same thing repeatedly for a set number of times, you get banned from chatting, thus blocking 99% of gold sellers. Sure it's not perfect if players want to repeatedly say "troll up" for example then they get blocked, but imo, it is worth the extra effort in helping to stop the spammers (gold sellers)!
I think that this issue tends to occur with any mmorpg that has been around for a long period of time, it isn't easy to counter because a lot of people would get pissed off in the process. The longer an MMO is around, the more time the original players had to farm gold, the more market prices get hiked up because people have more gold to spend on things. Then they get to the point where some games are IE Runescape, WoW, and Lineage 2 where basically if you want to buy anything you have to had farmed gold back when it was super easy. In WoW I can remember when spending 1k gold on something was expensive, and it didn't get all that easier to make gold for me and now things that are "expensive" to people are like 200k gold. In Lineage 2 it had never been easy to make money unless you were in a top clan with a boss on farm or a hero, and now items are 1.5 to 3 billion adena.
It's just a company trying to deal with the gold farmers, in a smart way that has worked at least a little bit in the past with games like Eve and Tera, and it might be profitable to them so if they reduce it even by a little bit then they succeed and make more money.
That won't work. Even if they obtained your MAC address through Java and sent it to the server, it isn't hard to spoof (manually change) a MAC address in Windows.
I was in no way making an excuse for gold sellers and have no intention of ever buying gold through them or through the actual publisher of the game! If you can not make enough in game money and need to buy it elsewhere then there is a problem with the game which need fixing (allowing gold sellers is not fixing it)!
If you want constant in spamming from gold sellers, then you are a lot more tolerant than me.
I don't want to have my chat box full of shit and think that with some limits, chat filters are a good way to go!
