[Column] Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn: The Top 5 At 35 - Top Early Boss Battles

SBFordSBFord Associate Editor - News ManagerThe Land of AZPosts: 16,649MMORPG.COM Staff Uncommon

Now that Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn has made its official debut, players are moving up the ranks and taking on some of the game's bosses. In our latest Eorzea Reborn column, we take a look at five awesome early level bosses. Read on and then tell us what you think of our choices in the comments.

Here, in ascending order, are my choices for the five “best” boss fights in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.    This isn’t a scientific thing, it’s my opinion.  It is primarily focused on the fights themselves, not the staging of the fights.  It’s a look at the mechanics, novelty, complexity and coordination required.  It is, of course, all highly debatable.

Some real good dungeons & bosses awaiting for me I see. Just did the Satasha dungeon myself (professional slacker :p) and enjoyed it a lot. Really can not wait to see the dungeons you mentioned here as well as any other out there.

    With 7 official reviews in... it's 88/100.

the 7.5 User Rating is a farce and a fluke.  People complaining of server issues during the first week gave it a 0.   Take those out, the game, on its merits is 8+ for a majority of players.

I would love to see more bosses like I Icourous Ire later on in the game. It was funny as we were "doing it wrong" for quite a bit. The I noticed the text clue. Lol

That's because we can't delete the 1.0 review.  The new one will replace this score when it hits.

The game is AWESOME I just finished the story and hit 50. Best MMO I've played in the better part of a decade.

Don't listen to the immature people that rate the game bad because of their connection issues. (Which btw is pretty much ironed out. At least it is on the Lamia server).

Wait till you experience that last dungeon...Mindblowingly fun.

    Monster Hunter Veteran since '04.
Currently playing: MH4U, Bloodborne, FFXIV, and a bit of GW2 on the side.

Great read.  Loving the game itself.  I hate that I am stuck on a Japanese legacy server cuz I did not want to play beta.

I really miss playing with people who feel real and speak english.

I can't decide if I prefer the gold sellers spamming in JP symbols or not.

The Adjudicator is going to be so fun on HM, cutters cry didn't seem as good as this one, maybe because my group were really good.

I must say this game is VERY decent, the battles are good and fresh and require some cooperation and thinking work too.

Although I am only lvl 18 atm, I can't wait to dive in the copperbell mines and see that first real boss.

As far as people complaining about connection issues, these are pretty much a thing of the past now. Balmung server has absolutely no problems, the linkshell and free company has no problem logging in anymore.

This game is here to last and that is a good thing :)

Thought the early bosses where fairly simple to get through, with one exception on Titan. But once the guide had been pasted into group chat people stopped standing in the wrong place and it was done ok. It was the best boss fight up to that level.

If you take the time to copy/paste each boss guide into the group chat, then later bosses are pretty reasonable to do and great fun. Garuda takes a bit of working out, but again if you follow the guides (www.ffxivguild.com is a good reference) you should be ok.

I'd disagree with your comments re the lead in story to Titan. I thought this was overlong and unattached to the actual primal story. Connecting that particular lead in environment to the Titan primal was always going to be a rough ride in terms of story continuity, and to me it didn't really work.

However, without giving anything away, the post Titan story line was the strong point at that stage - excellent.

Healing -my main- has relatively simple mechanics (which may be the result of catering to those who play on consoles) so long as you don't burn your mana by spamming top end heals all the time.

I know this is only to 35, so will await further reviews. Hopefully along the lines of:

    a) 35 to 50

    b) end game.

I do have a nagging doubt about this format. The great story line is it's strength, but could also turn out to be it's weakness. It's possible that players reach the excellent finish to the story, then have the anti-climax feeling of  - ok, now what?  - where's the next stage to maintain this level of interest?

To me, this will be the game's real challenge.
