    the progression servers!

even a hardcore server for a while, though it was only there for a contest.

it shouldnt be that hard for them to keep one server aside for only subscription players, preferably with the CS turned off (or with only certain items turned on).  I bet a lot of people would spit out their 15 a month for the chance to play it old school style, with a more level "playing field".

who else all would play on this server (i would obviously.... pref if it's an rp server)

Why do people always say it has to be 15 a month...Here's an idea, how about we just make the whole damn subscription for everyone the same price as Netflix 7.99.

Would you subscribe to that if it was a game? I sure as hell would.

My contention with 15 dollar subscriptions is that MOST companies don't deliver 15 dollars worth of content for the current times. Things have changed. I can get an entire Adobe CS for that, or turn around and pay for two different streaming services with tons of movies from all over the world.

Let's take a successful example. EvE Online. Sure they charge 15 dollars a month, but all of their expansions and content updates have been free.

Charging 15 a month for the original EQ then charging 30 bucks a pop for your umpteenth expansion is just outlandish in the current times of cheap server hardware and bandwidth.

I'll vote for EQN subscription at 7.99 a month. If they can pull that off, they can have my money till the end of time....for expansions too.

I absolutely agree with you in the theory that with lower server costs and what not a game should be able to turn a nice profit off of each player at 7.99/month.  I just said 15 bucks because (a) it's what p2p games not named FF are charging these days and (B) the difference between 15 and (less) isnt significant enough for me to have it be a breaking point.  50 cents a day for the 2.5 hours of playing on average i get a day (less on weekends more on weeknights) seems ok to me, though you are absolutely right that it might be gouging.

it would be great to learn the amount that the average f2p player spends per month on a game with a sub option (lotro, eq2 whatever) and see if it's higher than 15/month.  when i say average i mean taking into account the folks who pay zero as well as the Whales (to use the casino term) who spend hundreds.  maybe ask for the sub price to be 1$ more than the average f2p player if they include the amenity of the sub only server.

I'd sub if it would be a sub only server. I'd even pay more than the standard $15 a month for it.

You didn't even watch the video I linked in that post for which you attacked me did you? If you did you'd know the difference between sub and F2P isn't "how much" but "how to pay". To put it another way: There are allot of very mature, very capable people who for whatever reason either can't get or do not have access to a a credit card, F2P lets these people in, it lets in allot of shit besides them don't get me wrong but from experience I can tell you the ratio of shit to decent player ain't that different between a F2P and a P2P game (and I've played allot of em, Hell most people say F2P has allot of gold spam, funny how the most I've ever seen in a game was in EVE-Online and WoW).

Just keep in mind what I am saying now: There are allot of good people out there without credit cards, wading through the muck to find them is no worse than what you get in a P2P game, I can tell you that from experience.

Sub only server that has no cash shop,  sounds good.

Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

It wouldn't sound good if the sub meant being able to move your AA slider around and 1000 station cash every month (with nowhere to spend it).

probobly alot, as most people seem to want to pay a subscription IF the game is what peoples hopes and dreams say it could be.

ya, without a doubt.  i get what you're saying and when i was younger i was one of those good folks (i hope!!) with no CC.  (didnt get a CC til i was 21, i used to give my EQ1 sub money to an older friend who set my account up for me hehehe)

i saw the video... i missed it when you posted it... and the monetization system the PA people are advocating is the absolute best one (it reminds me of the turbine one in that you can earn the item mall money with in game actions).  later on in the video the narrator mentions not cordoning off paid players from free (which is kind of what our thread here is about) and the points made are very good.  however i dont want SOE to cordon off all free players from paid.  i agree it would be bad.  i was just asking for ONE server!  why?  well the "why" speaks to something that the video leaves unspoken: while plenty of f2p folks ARE good folks who dont happen to be able to pay right now, there are other folks who might just be there to troll.  or who like to complain a lot.  or (i'm shivering right now at the TERA global chat... i cannot put it to words).  my requested server of solitude (hmmm that has a ring to it) would have the effect of removing some of these folks, at the admitted cost of also excluding some folks who the paying community would welcome with open arms.  which, again, is why i would limit it to one server.

again i really didnt mean anything i said as an attack

How would the experience of being a subscription player on the 'public' servers and being a subscription player on the subscription server be different? It's not like there would be a special rule set for the sub server. You can bet your @ss that there would be a cash shop too.

Being on a subscription server isn't going to suddenly make people not act like idiots. Every WoW server out there is a P2P server and there are plenty of idiots on those servers. Ditto for Rift and SWToR. Probably AoC too, but I didn't play long enough to find out.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
