Age of Wushu: Franchise Expanding in Big Ways

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

Snail Games has announced that Age of Wushu's franchise is expanding in several new ways. According to the press release, there will be a major feature film based on the IP. Additionally, the team has announced that AoW will be appearing on both mobile devices and consoles.

"The Age of Wushu game looks and plays like a major martial arts motion picture so bringing the property to movie screens is a logical evolution," said Shi Hai, founder and chairman, Snail Games. "Our goal has always been for the property to reach the widest audience so evolving to a feature film and expanding the experience to consoles and mobile devices continues our plan."

Snail Games promises to reveal more in the very near future. Stay tuned. In the meantime, find out more about Age of Wushu.

Wow lol. If I'm not mistaken the movie is in the works. You know Jet-Li will be in it.

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Hero, Age of Wushu? Awesomesauce.

Really that just means AoW is returning to one of it's major roots Wuxia books and movies.

It will lose the advantage it has in the MMO market being one of the only truly Wuxia MMOs,9dragons being the onyl other one that comes to mind.It will have to compete with dozens of other Wuxia films and books in production in China where Wuxia is the largest genre of anything. Not to mention the 1000s of items already in existence. So this could easily be a financial disaster.

On the other hand the game is huge in China and that will probably offset the above unless the products made are truly terrible.

Age Of Wushu and SnailGames USA gave the game a bit of a bad rap in the west but thankfully Age Of Wulin  makes up for it ten fold, we are lucky Europeans.

Anyway the game has some really great features and here we have more of the weather system that actually changes the world around you.

    http://www.mmoculture.com/2013/07/age-of-wushu-new-trailers-display-upgraded-weather-and-water-effects/

Sand storms that reveal old ruins which you wouldn't find in normal weather, certain skills that can only be used in certain weather conditions.

Smed talks a good one but i expect to see something similar in EQN and the offline system.

ummm Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Hero. Who was the star of those two? Age of Wushu spokesperson, Jet-Li.

If it is on the scale of the two block busters I mentioned, with the same leading actor, why wouldn't it be a smash hit?

Let's get back to your silly comment instead of concentrating on Jet Li.

Point is there is a very good market for these kinds of films in the west, this is a fact.

But anyway here a nice little list.

Don't get me wrong, Jet Li is cool and all.  I have liked most of his movies.  But his last couple of Wuxia movies, Flying Swords of Dragon Gate and The Sorcerer and the White Snake were kind of meh.  Both scored less than 6 on IMDB which takes into account critics, user reviews, and metacritic.  Jet Li is getting old and they need more and more special effects to help keep him looking more relevant.  Lets face it, Chinese special effects are OK,..but no where near Western standards.

We have headed away from the comment you made in the first place, we are not talking about western special effects or Jet Li.

You made a dumb comment implying that these movies only do well in china and that's not the case.

Here's a reminder of you comment: LOL. "I'm sure if they do a movie it will do well in China"

    You were being sarcastic.

No, "We" were having a conversation about Jet Li and his movies that another poster brought up.   Steer him onto topic, not me.   YOU keep trying to focus on a statement I made as if I'm going to recant it.

Can't wait for the movie..I'll speedhack to the best seat ahead of everyone else and then use bots to go get me popcorn and soda so I don't lose it.

Could work well on consoles. I played with controller using up down on dpad to switch styles if you would having different sets on different hot bars. Worked pretty nicely. I don't think kung fu flicks are as popular anymore but they could still do enough numbers I'm sure .
