Graphics are A1. Character creation average. Combat (apart from archer) not so good.

So what's the big attraction? Just my thoughts after 3 beta weekends.

May I know what combat do you consider good or great? I mean which game has that kind you like ? :) final fantasy were always more about slower more tactical combat, it will never be action based combat like we see in tera, gw, etc. But because thats how ff fans like it :)

Fair enough. Just find it a bit  clunky.

What level did you reach? :) I think when you get more and more spells + cobine the other class spells, it gets better. But combat  was many times tweaked in ff xiv AA .. you never know, they might tweak it few more times before release  :) ull see

I find the combat are fine. Responsive and faster than Rift. What attracted me about Final Fantasy XIV: ARR is the class system where you can mix and match different skills from each class together, just like in Final Fantasy XI (III and V as well). You can really build character to suit your playstyle. Final Fantasy also has reputation on story, and I'm looking forward to see how it will present in XIV.

Even though, it is a theme park, it doesn't feel rush like the other. The quest does lead you from one hub to another, but does not feel force to do so.

As a previous player from 1.0, this is the first where I see the game pull it body out from the coffin yell out "I'm not dead, yet!", and try to get it life back to normal. The face look the same, but this time it decided to stop taking drug and apply for a normal job like everyone else. I'm looking forward to see how it goes, and willing to help support it, if it decides to stay sober.

Divona I think everyone loves the class system.  I always hated having multiple characters it's just more to juggle around.

The combat is not tactical, its Tab 1-2-3 for whatever combo you are using.

If Realm Reborn after 2 years of remaking and polishing looks so mediocre and archaic, I cant even imagine how it looked 2 years ago. Somebody wake up Square Enix and tell them, its not year 2005 anymore (speaking about gameplay, not graphics)

We can mix and match skills? I think the skills are based on whatever class you choose at the time are they not? So my archer still cannot use my conjurers lvl2 Heal skill? Or is he able to?

I like the game. Is it innovative aside from class/job system? Not that I have seen so far, but it is still fun. I've never cared about graphics like some people do so I can't comment on that aspect. It's something you would need to see for yourself in Open Beta.

It does get better later on, but I started in on this game in p3 beta and it was so horrible I was literally falling asleep playing it. After a good night sleep, I returned as was able to gut through the game until I got to some higher-level content, but it really does lack that initial hook, I mean even engage me via story, I'm ok with that. Instead you get dropped into a town and you essentially run around for the first couple hours just running errands.

It was fun, but it's certainly not at the level that I would say I'd pay for it.

I keep telling myself im sticking to one character this time (and save on sub costs) but I know im going to be alt'ing it up like always. Not that I really RP but I like to make concept characters. My Mi'qote Archer/Bard/Monk main isnt going to feel right when I want to play a Mage or a Tankadin.

    I feel the same way!

Like I'm going to have a Hyur Male Paladin/Lancer/Marauder, a female Miqo'te Archer/Bard/Monk, and probably a Lalalell White Mage/Black Mage.

Never really like pet classes, so Summoner/Arcanist/Scholar are off my table.

You can use certain abilities from other classes , for example get to 20 on PUG and WHM and you can use some of their abilities on all your other classes.

Albeit slightly weaker but most people I know have done WHM to get Heal and Regen and then level up other toons.

It doesn't mean its a bad game, its just not for me, and that's fine.

While I am a huge fan of FF, I wish people could simply state their opinions more objectively, along the lines of the post above as example.  To say I don't like it because the combat is (insert your issue here) and not mention something you do like or would like to see isn't helpful to people as it lacks an understanding with the issue your having.   I had this same experience with Rift. I tried it and wanted to like it but didn't.  I came back and the experience was the same for me.  It's not that the game is bad, its just a game this isn't for me.  This happens and its ok.

Why do people keep calling combat simulators "tactical combat"?  It's far less tactical than most action combat.  In FFXIV I'm just hitting the same rotations (or worse on Conjurer, the same single spell) over and over again.  There isn't any "tactics" involved.  If you want tactical combat go play a Tactics MMO like Wakfu, ECOL, or even Atlantica Online.

The combat is probably the worst part of the game right now.  The rest of the game is good in all aspects, but the combat definitely could use some improvements.  There isn't good variety in what each class can do in combat and it boils down to rotations or single skills ad nauseum.  It's still worth playing because it is good in all aspects, but I really hope feedback is given on how terrible the combat system is right now.  It's a lot more fluid than 1.0 for sure and you actually have to pay attention, but the depth is simply lacking.

Yeah, I really like the class system too, but I worry that the versatility it offers won't really matter much when you get to the end game, group-oriented content. I mean, if jobs are essentially the more specialized version of the particular class you're using, would there ever be any room for said class in a group setting? That's what bothers me about this system. Even though I'll probably spend much more time playing a MAR with cure spells/etc through the leveling process, I have a feeling that I'll be expected to switch over to the warrior whenever I'm in a group, regardless of whether I want to or not.

To be fair, I haven't really played enough, or know enough about how the system plays out in the late game to make a fair assessment, but I still think that it might have been better if they had went with the same system XI used, regarding jobs. I liked that every job had it's own identity and could be played standalone. With the system they're using in FFXIV, I kind of expect classes to become the red-headed step children later on, at least when it comes to most of the end game content. I hope I'm wrong on that though.

If I'm completely off-base here, and anyone wants to educate me, I'd gladly welcome that.
