I dont mind lack of cast bar, after all recent games not having it anyway i got used to it, and if you pay attention (as you should) you can avid nasty stuff anyway :)

    Thanks.

That having been said, declaring it the game of the decade isn't just premature, it's insane in that "doing the same thing over and over, expecting a different outcome" kind of way.

For the love of God and all that's Holy, if there's ever been a game where people should know better than to declare it their one true love before they've even played release or had time to really see the good, the bad, and the ugly in any real depth, it's this one. Just once, can we try and be somewhat sensible about this?

I know, I know, that's just crazy talk...

I agree with this guy. The game is great, but its only the beginning. We have yet to do the end game, chocobo battles, and so on. Like the one thing that was really bad, but thankfully can be adjusted is the flashy effects from the abilities. If theres a FATE event and you have 20-30 ppl smashing one target the effects get so over the top all the flashing at once literally puts a huge blur of white on the screen, so if you're a melee class you're completely blinded. Like I said though we can tone down the effects the bloom and so on. Other than that though man I really like the light parties. Sooooooo much fun. Hope to see you guys in game, this will be a great distraction until ESO comes out :)

I will try ESO but i dont have my hopes up based on what i already saw. As it is FF14 ARR or Wildstar looks more appealing.

It all depends how much of a mmo feel the new ESO will instead of being yet another coop mmo, or closed off mmo.

I cant wait, FF11 was my very first MMO. I only played FF 14 1.0 a little bit in beta and it was ok. But everything Ive been hearing of late, sounds like they did a good job on Redoing it. Heck even my buddy (Who got me into FF11 as well, for the first time) that played 1.0, and now in beta, has the "OMG, they did a great job"

and one comment from the OP stuck out for me.

and get that urge to just play together and group and socialise which is something nonexistent in the recent games.

You can have games that you can solo, but if they have the right Community/social aspects in game. They will water them selves so to speak :)

Do people really think the graphics are that good? Im not exactly sure what i felt was missing but it seemed to lack that shine, everything looked flat and dull, i had everything pumped to max and yea it looked like it was missing lighting elements and bump mapping or something.

eveything looked similar to the first image...not the second...

It is still a beta lets wait till the open beta comes out in a lil over a month before we judge. Also all accounts crated and leveled during open beta will transfer to the live game. Wish they would have at least let us transfer our phase 3 looks to phase 4 I spent a while making my guy perfect. =S

....Yeah? You can always find something to nitpick until the game is The Witcher 2. Doesn't mean what we have here isn't pretty damn good for an MMO.

I am pretty happy with the new FF XIV!

Makes my purchase of the CE 1.0 feel better now.

Am I the only one who doesnt get the hype for this game?  It doesnt seem very modern, the quests are really lame, and its hub-hub game, that people complain about every where else

the class system is cool though

Well I think in order to understand the hype you have to understand the franchise. FF is the #8 best selling franchise of all time. Up there with Mario bros. and such. Its popular around the world and for more than 25 years now. So when you have fans in their teens and 40s youre going to make alot of noise when you introduce a mmo in that universe we can play with our friends. Simular to TESO and EQN, People have mostly good memories of the previous games so they get excited even if very little info is available.

FFXIV ARR on the other hand has been very generous with the info shared with their fans. The producer/director has been very open and public via live video streams sharing info and answering question, in an attempt to reestablish faith from the fans. Most fans would agree that he and his team have done a very good of this so far.

The game has many of the typical elements found in todays mmos, but there is a much higher polish. Besides, killing a huge dragon as luke skywalker is much more fun than to do so as just  a regular barbarian.

Also there are alot of mmo fans who are unhappy with the current selection of mmos available. If you arent playing Wow or GW2, (and even if you are) there just isnt much to be excited about. So with FFXIV being the biggest mmo to be released before christmas its getting alot of attention. Attention I believe time will show is well deserved.

I dont mind if its done like in Tera, but problem is if they make it action based = REALLY shallow and not complexity at all. I saw to many games like that recently. Gw2 ? Neverwinter ? Vindictus ?

Innovation is not necessary an improvement. And action based combat is hard to imagine in FF universe. I mean the fact that combat is in real time and not TBS alone is quite shocking as it is :P

Id rather take it the old way, at least it works.

The only way I could explain it

I Like my coffee with cream and sugar, you mite like yours black, some mite like it strong, some mite like it cold.

It comes down to personal preference really, and some nostalgia :) . But its also like a lot of people said too , the story and RPG aspect of the game really make it shine, and for some that makes all the difference in the world.

I'm with Raist - if you mean by it doesn't seem modern because its more like old school mmo combat then its a positive for me also.

It's surprised and made a lot of us have positive impressions of it because its the closest thing to a virtual fantasy world with at least less "on rails-instanced hub" that has been par for the course in the past few years.

Again - games from SWTOR to Neverwinter have lowered the bar for lazy devs - no time change - no weather - lifeless static worlds.

FF ARR at least remembers that used to be expected in a mmo and had lots of those things that add up to make it far, far better than any crap that's been released in the past three years or maybe even longer.

This is not actually a hub game even though it may seem to look that way. It's more story questing than anything else, once you finish a quest then its gone forever, you will never ever have to do the same quest twice. You will need to find other ways to level with FATE, dungeons, hunting logs, guild heists ect.

I think everyone will agree that the biggest feature for FF 14 ARR is the immersion! Its all those little details that draw you in.

Problem is a lot of recent mmos forgot what it means. Build virtual worlds not movie sets plz !

how is that different?  other than games that have dailies, you never do the same quests twice.  Maybe I just dont get into the story, but how is delivering a letter to a guy 8 feet away supposed to get me into a story?  The story itself does seem all that inspiring as well.  Maybe I am just not a FF guy, only one  I ever liked was Tactics, but I couldnt tell you the story behind that at all, I just loved the multiclassing.  Anyways, I am just trying to understand it, not trying to bash it really, I want to enjoy it, I like the  FATES (aka Public Quests/Rifts) so thats nothing new and gets boring eventually, and I am sure dungeons dont really do anything different either, but maybe I am wrong.

Albeit I only got to level 11, but it was nothing but a hub grind, finish a quest goto that next little house to hand it in then do their quest and move along the trail.  Oh sure maybe you could take the road out to ???Scorpion Point??? instead, but it still followed a similar path

dx 11 client should add the bump maping in but whyw oudl you star at the ground when the rest of the game is so good looking

Basically you want a mmo thats like old mmos where there are no quests or public events and such that just throws the player in the world and let him figure out how to progress the character.  Back than most people just grinded mobs for exp all day to get level ups and go through dungeons when they were strong enough for them. Is that what you want?
