    Devil's Advocate:

For the few minutes I played, lets say total less than 90 for sure, I saw no fewer than 2 different GMs actively ban gold sellers(didn't seem to actually have an effect) and chat with players.

    Reality:

Same old lame ass F2P recycle crap combat/graphics/concept.

    Irony:

Holy crap SB generates tons of hits, and comments on these forums.

No one should expect a review of an unquestionable 5h!7y game to be detailed and thought provoking.

I mean AoC had nudity and I dont remember MMORPG.com reviews blasting it for it.  Maybe just maybe the review was the way it was cause it was a 5h!7y game so bad that there was no point in going in to detail. The reviewer should have been more real and said look its a stupid porno wannabe game masked as a mmo; If you want a porn game go somewhere else if you want a mmo game go somewhere else.

I don't think people are defending the game. I think they are calling out this site on it's obvious duplicity.

What duplicity? Not liking a game?

No, for taking Ad money, plastering pics all over their site of the very thing they are saying is "shameful and degrading"

MMORPG.com is damned if they do and damned if they don't with the tinfoil hat crowd. If they like a game that's advertised on the site, then they were paid to write that. If they don't like a game that was advertised on the site then some kind of deceit or duplicity is going on.

The game is OK and will be just OK for a long time I guess? Just let the game flourish and don't discredit it.
  • DignaDigna Member UncommonPosts: 1,994

Bad taste. Dull. Boring. Yes, yes and yes.

Shameful and degrading? Maybe if you are saying its shameful that these trash MMOs keep popping up. Degrading to the millions of MMOers who try to stay with AA or AAA games? Okay.

And yet If there wasn't a market for them, the trash games wouldn't fly. So...its a bit like porn on the Internet. Do we need it? Not really (well some might). But there is a market and thus...it is.

It has been stated ad nauseam  that the people responsible for the advertising are not the same people responsible for the editorial content. Regardless, Loktofeit said it best:

This is not really a case of "Damned if you do and damned if you don't". This site accepted $$$ for Ads and then plastered those pics all up and down this site site. While their 1st round of Ads came through, I remember having to quickly minimize this window if my kids came around. It was MMORPG.com that I had to hide from my kids, NOT Scarletblade.com. Now, they want to turn around and say it's "Shameful and Degrading"?

Again, read my post about responsibility of ad content. Look at the bright side, maybe the review shamed the ad department to pull the ads.

Pro tip - Get a decent ad blocker for your browser. Problem solved.

    Selective memory?

Three months ago, Bill Murphy wrote a less than stellar article on Scarlet Blade. They haven't changed their stance at all. They've told you the truth, which is that the staff of the site doesn't control the ads. At this point, the question is simply "What answer do you want?" because obviously the real answer doesn't work for you.

This article was more shameful than the game...BTW, pornographic? Seriously? Is this the 1960s? Nipples are not porn.

Personally speaking, I'd rather have the serious game than the 'humor-based' game. The humor implies that they don't care what they're depicting.

I am a female, and I played this game, and I have to say, I never once felt "objectified" by the fact that I was looking at animated breasts on fictional characters.

I don't know why you, George Dimmock, felt that way. But let me ask, how can you possibly degrade or shame a character that isn't real? What next, artists who draw naked women are degrading and shaming these women they draw? I am so sick of people trying to argue that the mere sight of breasts, real or fake, is somehow objectifying women and degrading them. You know what is objectifying women? Forced prostitution in third world countries, for example. But not this game. So maybe you should worry about that more and not a bunch of fictional characters in a video game.

While I consider Scarlet Blade to be a sub par game (due to its game play elements), the eye candy is just amusing to me.   MMORPG accepting money to run ads for the game, is simply business.  Sure its a silly game, but its money is still green, and it pays the bills the same as money from better (and worse) games.

At its most fundamental this is about business and personal taste. If you don't like a game or if it "offends" you, then don't play it.

Wisdom? Really? This about a video game that uses sex as its main selling point?

    +1

This was the perfect reply. Inigo Montoya knows all.

    Sex? Really?

Hentai figurines in provocative outfits is hardly sex.

Also, worst review in mmorpg.com by far

Don't get the whole idea of seeing the human body as something bad...

It's only "shameful and degrading" because people think it is. Why is it so bad for me to like the female body?

how about appreciating, instead of complaining?

If people could just grow the fck up, th eworld would be a much better and easier place to live in

As for the actual game, i don't like tab-targetting so im not going to play it jsut as i don't play WoW for example.

and who the fck decided what should be morrally right or wrong?

killing people is considered morally wrong but you don't see america giving that hobby of their up do you?

i fail to see how porn is "degrading" when the vast majority of all porn actors are doing it because they decided to do it.

That would be fine if a) some of the avatars clearly looked under age, and b) there was a way to ensure children did not play the game (would you feel comfortable if you knew that dancing naked char you are 'admiring' was being played by a child). Same reasoning why children should not be allowed to play hardcore violent games.

    rpg/mmorg history: Dun Darach>Bloodwych>Bards Tale 1-3>Eye of the beholder > Might and Magic 2,3,5 > FFVII> Baldur's Gate 1, 2 > Planescape Torment >Morrowind > WOW > oblivion > LOTR > Guild Wars (1900hrs elementalist) Vanguard. > GW2(1000 elementalist), Wildstar

Now playing GW2, AOW 3, ESO, LOTR, Elite D

To eluwien, have you actually looked at the definition of the word hentai, and why it is not appropriate for children.

f you have no shame, are a 12-year-old child just finding out about “the boobies”, are interested in seeing just how horrible this whole charade can get, or want a fairly slick-looking sci-fi based grinder, and are willing to ignore the more obvious draw to this game.
  • ThegoodlolThegoodlol Member CommonPosts: 64
You can throw this review to the trash can MMORPG.com, because that's where it belongs. I don't play the game, I downloaded it and unninstalled it after 20 minutes, not because I think the game is bad, which probabbly is, but because I don't like nudity in my games, but you couldn't review the game objectively. I know reviews are subjective, but you just got disgusted by the nudity and didn't go from there. This is not a review worth of this website. This was most likely wroten by a religion extremist., since it seemed you were reviewing a porn magazine than a game.

Not this again. If they had run the SB ads and not done a review would posters have been happy? This review was scathing and still MMORPG.com are taking money? Maybe George Dimmock was getting a bung from feminist organisations for this review? Lets get real here, every time you think a MMO is overated or underated does not mean someone on the staff took a bribe.

In this case, it was the lack of bribes.

This review was quite shameful and degrading. But at the same time unintentionally funny.

Next time try to decide whether you want to review moral values or a game.

    looking underage != being underage

Anyway, ensuring children do not play this game is their parent's responsibility, NOT Aeria Games', try another argument.

Indeed the proper word for the characters in this game would be "ecchi", still inappropriate for children view but it's not really the point.

Sorry for the three consecutive replies but I couldn't get around this forum's multi-quote feature.
