[Review] Scarlet Blade: A Shameful & Degrading Experience

Scarlet Blade developers thought to set the MMO world afire with their "mature themed" game. We have carefully played Scarlet Blade to offer a fair review. See what we discovered before leaving your thoughts in the comments.
At its grassroots, MMORPGs, are huge online open worlds, virtual realities in which we escape to, to essentially play out another life. Along the way we make friends, foes, hell some of us even find partners. But what an MMO shouldn’t be, is a shameful and downright degrading experience. Japanese and Korean gaming has often been an affair of anime like characters, colorful worlds and more than often, scantily clad characters. Take a look back at Tera, some of the games races were altered so the game didn’t look so perverse. Aeria Games latest foray into the MMORPG market, Scarlet Blade, is the complete opposite of this. Being approached to review this game was something I wasn’t expecting and what I experienced in this game was the aforementioned degrading and shameful experience. With that said, let’s move on to the final review.

Morals are absolutely relevant to aesthetics if the aesthetics offend.
And that game offends a lot of ppl. But then again, why would someone read a porn movie review from a priest,if willing to try the game? Same here. The guy have all the bias against the game. It's a crappy MMo, for sure, but not because of boobs
Worthless review written by someone that was not the target audience and no doubt for some reason still loved Age of Conan that had bare boobs, depicted rape, and overall stated that women were nothing more than items to be used and discarded...and that game was serious about it unlike this one which is all humor based.
This article was more shameful than the game...BTW, pornographic? Seriously? Is this the 1960s? Nipples are not porn.

Reviews are always subjective. And I am willing to bet every one of the reviewers on this site found the game rather offensive.
You say, why would you read a porn review from a priest? Well, why would you inject porn shamelessly into an MMO?! They would have been better off making a social virtual sex MMO instead of pretending like it isn't just a game for perverts.

To some small degree it does. But this view totally conflicts with logic and the very definition of aesthetics. I think he's mixing up what's morally ugly to what's visually ugly. Take for instance Rola Takizawa. Undeniable beauty with innate look of innocense. She had a legitimate potential to become a commercial star. She decided she needed money and went to porn. Fans were surprised. Is she now aesthetically ugly. Saying yes to that makes no sense what's so ever. Morally ugly yes. But not aesthetically ugly. Get it?There's a BIG difference there. In AoC that was all in the context of an existing complex and brutal world. Bioshock infinite features some pretty intense racism, but I don't think anyone is going to argue the makers are racist.
Moral views can certainly effect the aesthetics. All we have is our own perception which is affected by everything we think, feel, and believe. If you believe that blondes are evil, every blonde girl no matter how pretty she might be will automatically look ugly to you.
The only thing that I got from the Review was how Shameful and Degrading the reviewer thought it was.
At first he said the game isn't bad because there is alot worst out there on the market then all i seen was Shameful and Degrading every other sentence.

Okay, I had to laugh at that one.
I will never understand why people feel a need to review something they know they aren't going to like in the first place. The only thing that could be called porn, would be some of the puzzle's that you unlock as you level up, those would be classified as softcore porn as there is no penetration. Other than that the game is a decent themepark from Aeria games. Believe it or not some people can look at a game like that and laugh while not being offended. But hey each to their own.
P.S. Do we need gwar to fight the morality squad again?

Suzie you are some how disgusted with the interpretation of the female form in this game.
Why are you not more horrified by games that push the violence of blood and gore that are
so prevalent in games. Write about that, instead of something that has not changed since the beginning of time.

mmo is like a mega killing fest, but it's alright? only when nudity is tagged, then it's an issue?
anyway. this game isnt so bad? I played far worse than this.
When MMORPG.com had an ad on the site that showed a pirate man with pubic hair showing, the gamer dude masses raged. If the game's aesthetics were reversed and had nutsacks on display, you and everyone else would be wondering wtf and 'offense' would be found in droves.
That's why it's offensive; not because it's tits, but because it's only allowed, because it's tits. If it's men, it's wrong, but if it's women, they're never naked enough. Yes, that is offensive.

I have to say, I found this review disappointing. It reminded me a bit of a broken record.
I get it. You didn't appreciate the art style. I think after the 3rd use of shameful and degrading that everyone got that. But you let your personal opinion of the character models essentially poison the rest of the review.
There's very little detail about actual gameplay, yet multiple lines about the graphics. Also, I even googled the game images to see if they were truly so depraved and vile, and it just reminded me of Second Life (which, for the record, is MUCH more vulgar and has practically a cult following)
Generally not up to par, IMO.

1) Male nipples are shown everywhere. Why are female nipples more offensive?
2) I would find an advert with a ballsack showing to be hilarious.

I don't think it was a very well written review either. I'm fine with the score and the fact this guy seems to hate it, but he mentioned "degrading" and the like far too much in most of the categories. This seems to indicate he had a sort of bias, or is allowing cultural upbringing or the influence of other people's remarks affect his actual review and score.
What about for people who can remain objective when games come around? To those who don't think something is repeatedly degrading? This just seems like a "stay away" writing more so than anything objective review; he even makes the remark "If you don't know this game, stay away..." as opposed to just writing about the actual pros and cons in an unbias matter and simply write what he thinks many would consider a con to their experience playing the game.
Honestly, I get the feeling he thinks everyone expects him to write this as such. Perhaps he thinks he might be considered a pig if he doesn't. But as a whole it's not what I would expect in terms of a valid official review.
I've seen videos of this game, and I just might download it to see if there are things so overly offensive that I can't write anything good about it, or write what I think others will view as a negative in an unbias fashion.
But I think the fact of the matter is that if someone would download a game expecting this -- or even wanting it -- then they shouldn't complain about such things as morals or the like. The log in page is likely to show case exactly what the game is about. The target audience is set, and writing this article is anything but "fair" for the points addressed above and by others.
