Second: EQN will not be cartoony because its exactly the opposite from the direction EQ was developing
Just speculation mate.
Also we have absolutely no info outside of a few concept art photos here and there to determine the art direction for EQN. The only thing they've been open about is the sandbox design.
Not quite true, Smed posted a new screenshot on Twitter showing off a base high poly count model, again it is not textured, but it doesn't look cartoony.
Well it's certainly not a realistic approach
edit: not sure how to post high res images because bbcode won't work so ill just link the images
The shoulder pad in the EQ next picture is acualy a realisic design, that particular design is use for armor mainly for jousting purposes, As you can see from the picture you'll notice only 1 side of the armor has a large shoulder pad aswell as a plate piece cming of the section near the neck this is to provide increased protection on the side of the body/neck that is facing the enemy with the lance.
Picture Below is showing a real armor set similar in design to the EQN shoulder pads.
I'd love to say no, but I know myself and yeah, I absolutely would be disappointed if it was cartoony.
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.

That second image is from A Knight's Tale.
(You know, the movie where the medieval villagers are stomp=and-clapping to a Queen record, and the big ballroom dance to Bowie?)
Just saying, might want to choose a different image to convey "realistic".

A Knight's Tale may not have been realistic, but it was fun and at the end of the day that is what we really want in a game.
Whatever character style they go with, it must match the art style of the game world. I would like something between the art style of EQ and EQ2.
I want heavy armor to look like heavy armor and not plate painted leotards with bulky boots, gloves and shoulders.
Better??? there seems to be shoulder pad trend here it seems and all similar to EQN pic.

Thats a relief, its getting to the point where its becoming a major issue, if the graphics arent overly cartoony, their cell shaded 'stylised' like borderlands, can't stand them myself, and one of the features of SW;TOR that i actually find pretty irritating. So not going that whole cartoony type of art style is a huge plus in the games favour imo.
I know this is PS2 they are talking about but you can get an idea how great the forgelight engine is.

The shoulder pad trend you mention is due to those specific armor sets being designed specifically for jousting competitions. They are not the sets that would have been worn into a real battle. Just saying.

THis isnt really a fair comparison.
That WoW Screen in Current 2012-2013
The EQ Screen is 1998-1999.
So Yes, I would expect there to be a great deal difference.
I hope it has a high fantasy style look. Not realistic, nor cartoony. I want things to fly in the air, insects, birds. Also the trees should be gloomy like in Innothule Swamp, but vibrant and tall like in Greater Faydark.
Stuff on the ground, sandy paths. But all in toned down colour palette.
You know when you play too much MMO's when your partners pants have become a rare drop.
Originally posted by Rinna I wouldn't be disappointed as long as it was an incredible game.
Same here. Been playing Planet Explorers, a multiplayer sim-style sandbox game, and the graphics are downright goofy but because the gameplay is fun for me, it just somehow seems to work.
There isn't a "right" or "wrong" way to play, if you want to use a screwdriver to put nails into wood, have at it, simply don't complain when the guy next to you with the hammer is doing it much better and easier. - Allein"Graphics are often supplied by Engines that (some) MMORPG's are built in" - Spuffyre

WOW and Wildstar are the most similar looking mmo's graphics wise. how can you like one and not the other? unless of courses you're just a.....

i want to point something out here real fast, WoW and WS look nothing alike grapics wise, astetics wise yes but even there a large amount of difference has started to show with each new video, but grapics wise not at all.
people are always mistakeing grapics for astetics,
grapics is in a nut shell the shapness of the images or the power of the engine to make the images.
astetics is the style of the way it appears what colors are used and what kinda fill the images are given.
and in a lot of way astetics is far more important then the grapics it is why some older games still look better then newer ones.
here be my favorite video for explaning this.
F2P may be the way of the future, but ya know they dont make them like they used toProper Grammer & spelling are extra, corrections will be LOL at.
If anything, I think the art style will be closer to what you get in Planetside 2 than SWTOR stylized graphics.
I'm not worried one bit about the style as gameplay, at least to me, is more important.
