I'm so sad for Aeria because I've only had positive experience with that company, but recently they've been publishing such bad MMOs and two of theirs are on this list (DK Online and Scarlet Blade). Hopefully they won't get into financial troubles because of bad choices.

    Cheers.

Yeah, scarlet blade is literally nothing but a cash-in for sex-appeal, if it didn't have the hentai/sex-appeal, the game would be nothing more than another super-generic Korean mmo that possibly would've been good 7 or 8 years ago... the gameplay is horrible.

this is a very good review of the game in my opinion:

Except he didn't, there was a fairly negative op-ed piece about Scarlet Blade over 2 months ago,and btw the current main background ad is from the same publisher.

Just to repeat what's said above: SB isn't a bad game. In fact it's being rather honest. It breaks the 4th wall with it's writing and if it was voiced it would be actually a fun experience to hear the banter. The writing takes advantage of the sexualization of the characters. It makes no excuse for the type of game it is nor its art direction.

I personally find the semi-nude female/mech hybridization odd to look at and unsatisfying when they all look identical and nothing like the character you customize.

The worst thing about it is the body types are locked to the classes. So you're forced to play a loli if you want the dual pistol set up. At least with Tera you can choose to avoid the 1000 year old children.

The gameplay is very meh, though the AI once past the noob area are rather aggressive and can be challenging. The size of the maps are way too big for the amount of mobs/items you need to defeat/collect (yes it's a crap quest system like WoW), and the terrain is old and bland.

Anyways, there are many other games that are much worse than SB that should have been on this list. The reason given for putting SB on the list is childish. Me thinks someone wanted to show their girlfriend and mom that they don't like that kind of thing. "See look what games we chose, we're not pervy men like the rest of those dogs."

Never touched 2-5 sadly I did play The War Z back in Nov and was one of the worst games I have ever played. War Z should not be labeled an MMO otherwise you need to label any game that has 50 slots or more per server an MMO.

So MMORPG.com is willing to take advertisement revenue from a game, which basically shows soft anime porn, with ads all over the site for weeks, and then come on here in an article and essentially call the game out for what it is. Double standards?

Money is money, you can put anything you want on MMORPG if you have enough money, They aren't in this for free...

I can honestly say I've never played any of these, nor had the inclination to do so after reading what their about, personally for me, computer games and anime porn dont mix, hence i was put right off, and the others i havent heard of, except warz which after taking a look at the forum posts, was enough to tell me not to bother.

Neverwinter is a serious contender for inclusion, we in the STO community have come to see PWE's greed, and i mean serious greed, you think bigpoint had the crown? wait til you see PWE, lockbox lottery galore and thats just to start, and i will have to side with bob and say swtor should be up here, i havent played it since release, yes its pretty, yes theres lots of voice overs, but heck its just world of warcraft with light sabres, i was expecting something a little more .. innovative with 300m USD, and last i looked at it a few months ago, not much has changed, its still stale and stagnant.

But i digress, interesting list, really should be a top 10 instead of top 5, but i will agree SB needs to be there, if only to reassure me that my disgust for cartoon porn is natural, its just wrong, then again im getting old, so that may be it.

Have "played" much worse than Scarlet Blade! Quotes around played for the "Reviewer" in you!
  • erickjhdezerickjhdez Member UncommonPosts: 2

How the fuck is Scarlet Blade the worse if you haven't even played the game? You're basing your assumption because the game is suggestive in its character design, so you assummeee that its bad because of it. [mod edit]

And this thing about Wizardry Online, how can you guys even say its bad?? Its probably one of the most strategy driven games out there. You have to plan your character development and dodging and positioning is really key in this game. It definitely gave me more of an edge than any of the other shitty MMOs in the market out right now. The combat is sluggish for a purpose, its time dependent, and you have to really time your dodges in the game. Even as a melee tanker, and a mage. Its all about health reliant. You needed to keep as much health as possible and dodge to avoid any heavy damage. The only reason why I stopped playing the game was because the game was a waste of time trying to complete 1 simple little dungeon. If you wanted to enter into a dungeon, you NEEDED a party for many reasons and finding a party was hard in it of itself and could usually take a half an hour to an hour and if you wait inside a dungeon screaming if there is a party available, you can get your ass murdered by pvpers. You go in alone, but there is also that chance that you can get murdered by gangers trying to kill you and this happens more than often. And the worst part, they can steal your items. You could find a rare item in the dungeon that took hours, and pvpers can steal that shit away in a few seconds if you get ganged by them. Plus the fact that dying also resulted in losing your character, if you aren't careful and keep on dying. You are also on the lookout cause potential perma-death is always there. It also sucks too that pvpers always enter into the dungeon as the max level required for that dungeon, which many times, they rape your ass. The reason why you needed a group to help each other to avoid those fuckers, which is fruitless sometimes, cause they always got grade A weapons. If you think about it, this game is heavily group orientated.

And the game hits you without even knowing it. You could be afking in the town, and the next thing you know, you got murdered by a pvper, cause the game was open pvp everywhere. How could this game even be the worse? It was fun as fuck and keeps you on the edge. That's what a game should be all about. You should call this game innovative more like it. I also liked how shopkeepers will refuse to trade with you if you are a murderer and even call the guards to come after you. [mod edit]

Dragon's Prophet will be joining this list.  Easily.  Sadly.  Me think SOE is clamoring for money right now, which is a shame but maybe needed like a swift kick in the butt to get them back on track.

There is just not a single MMO out there that makes me wish to play right now. Too many clones or too many so-called "f2p" rip-offs out there. Frankly, I feel the MMO genre is dying and will continue a slow spiral until some truely does something unique rather the following the leader of others.

Let's party like it is 1863!

Why are so many people defending Scarlet Blade? Some say it has good animations, but take a closer look! Some of those animations deform character model, how can that be good? And speaking of characters, customization is really poor and how can anyone find in-game characters as appealing (you guys must have the lowest standards ever)? Skimpy clothing? Design and art style of most clothing is so horrible! Korean MMOs usually have some cool/sexy looking armors, but in SB they're making kittens cry. Graphics and technical features of the game are as generic as any generic Korean f2p MMO is. And list just goes on.

It's like people that are defending SB have games like DK Online (can't get more generic than that) to compare with.

About SWTOR, even though I'm not a fan of SW and basically got the game because of the friends that wanted to play it, I still got to level cap with one char and played to the end of the story line. For two moths that I was subscribed, it was worth the money. I wouldn't put it into the worst MMOs list, but neither would I put it into the best (unless list was called "top 20 best MMOs of the year").

    Cheers.

    3-5... dont care

    2. scarlet Blade... hrm soft porn game... lets see.. the number 1 content of the internet is porn it sells so get used to it.

    1. warZ...... what can I say.. played it trashed it and forgot it. nuff said...

Some players think WoW should be up there. I am on the fence about this opinion due to a few factors.

1 The game content is lacking.. Too much focus on Dailies and Raids, not enough focus on leveling through dungeons. No quest extensions into the Raids.

    2. Looting.. Raids and dungeons RNG looting system is about as screwed up and tedious as I have ever seen. #0+ raids and still cant get a weapon upgrade even using over 100 elder charms. Thank god 5.3 brought back upgrading.

    3. Talent system.... Took some getting used to. After 9 years of playing the game you become used to the system then they change it drastically and you have to relearn it all over. Annoying as all hell but as I said its easy to get used to it.

    4. Healer reconfigure. I absolutely hated what Blizzard did to my Priest at the start of Cataclysm and still not a fan of it into Mists of Pandaria.  Mana caps blow ass and my poor Shield.. crappy damage absorb, often one shotted...

    5. Paladins are sweetly OP.. though on the other side they are supposed to be hybrid class along with Shamans. Boy did Blizz screw the goose on that one.  Other classes are in the same situation more or less. But why does every class have stuns/knock backs? instead of a balance they gave every class new skills on top of what they already had so the whole idea of balance was thrown out the window.

    6. Dungeons again.... the total restructuring of the dungeons into themepark trash runs.

    7. Looking for Raid and the main raids.... What can i say? they got the loot system screwed as I mentioned before, however they have started reintegrating groups of adds into the raids once again.. now to find a balance to the Monty Python health and damage of players and bosses.

    8. Item Level.... This was supposed to be a guide and Blizzard in their stupidity made it a requirement for raids... Call me a hard liner but intelligent folk knew when they were geared to go into a raid. I feel bad that they had to add a handicap system to the game for the intelligently challenged.

    9. PVP... yeah this ones a dinger.. they dropped the item level in patch 5.3 which i didnt mind. However im still calling BS on the reduction in CC timers. What makes a player any more special than an NPC? Resilience is still complete BS but at least the devs finally knocked it down some. Now they just need to Fix AV back to the greatness it was and things would balance themselves out.

Id go even more but there are too many things to bitch about or compliment, pet battle system... pokemon, Spandex gear.. no effort in design, The great upgrade systems, Transmog and reforge. Also the Heirloom gear makes a huge difference from the long winded grind to 90. Though I still think there are far too many currencies in the game and the Auction Hall has gotten far too greedy with the whole transmog situation.

So while many would say WoW should be on there as a game fail, it isnt.. Mists is a trash expansion sure. However that doesnt make the who;le game a loss. Just the section from 85-90.

Played: UO, LotR, WoW, SWG, DDO, AoC, EVE, Warhammer, TF2, EQ2, SWTOR, TSW, CSS, KF, L4D, AoW, WoT

Playing: The Secret World until Citadel of Sorcery goes into Alpha testing.

Tired of: Linear quest games, dailies, and dumbed down games

    Anticipating:Citadel of Sorcery

As someone who reviews video games, you should probably, you know, actually play the game before you just make judgments about it based entirely on the visuals, no matter what those visuals entail. How can you even know what the classes are like? The combat? The end game? Anything? His entire basis of his judgment of the game is completely visual based, and yet he put it on #2 of Worst MMOs of 2013. Sounds completely legitimate and like I should trust his other reviews even when he doesn't openly admit to not having played a game.

can't wait in 6 months they can do this again with an updated 2013 list.... not sure why they did a "so far" before the half year is up... i'm guessing they couldn't piece together anything better....

which shows the current state of the MMORPG market... when the "game journalists" are even struggling for article space.

warz, dayz... i'mfalling asleepz are they even classed MMORPG's? Although we now classed instanced MMORPGs as MMORPGS... i think the while genre needs a redefinition (with sub parts),  even Anet never viewed the original guild wars as an mmorpg.

Hmm if anyone bought out a new MUD or something like http://www.gothador.com/ ... i wonder if they'd now be classed as MMORPGs... hell the editorial guys are already speaking about the browser game Ecol Tactics and even did a review.

next thing they'll be reviewing Man City v Man Utd (via Sky Sports where you watch online) as a Tactical Real Life Fan Supporter MMORPG, you level up your knowledge by watching the game. Warning - you may experience RNG buffs such as happiness and Debuffs such as sorrow.

Dude, are you serious?  WTH are you smoking?  SWTOR is by far the WORST game to roleplay.  It has zero interactive furniture, zero player housing, and crappy emotes.  Not to mention no chat bubbles, lack of social areas and a serious lack of explorable areas due to invisible walls and/or faction restrictions.

Its a freaken theme-park that is designed for loot grinding and caters to its mindless loot grind audience and PvP counterparts.  It's the reason I quit SWTOR due to it's lack of attention to it's RP consumers.  The REAL Star Wars game that was perfect for RP was SWG, sadly SOE closed its doors on the title.

Back on topic... And as far as Scarlet Blade,  the game lacks innovation, plays like a F2P MMO, but its way better than some of the crap listed for "BEST" of 2013, SWTOR not withstanding.

Definitely much better than the best of article, although, with so many trash games that come out each year, you could do a top 50 worst and still have more games that people say should be on that list.
  • KingOOKingOO Member UncommonPosts: 11

if you haven't played Scarlet Blade  check it out yourself  , but I coming from someone who have played it "it blows" real stupid game .. plus i hate when players say until you get max level then you haven't  got the feel of the game, that BS of a line. If a game isn't fun on the way  up then it wont be fun even at the top.  Besides i love the list they made  and when will we have games that base on skill of the players than just the gear  or how much you spend

Puritan political-correctness boogie politics at best. Laced with church ethic phobia and deep seated religion traditions on the outlook of the human form.

If game characters were covered in iron tanks they would be considered more wholesome and good for the whole family by the reviewer? Because as taught in the religious bible, the outlook of nudity is considered a shameful existence and the human form is an ugly thing. Which is what the majority of this review is based on in consideration to Scarlet Blade.

Genesis 3:7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves.

Genesis 3:10 He answered, "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid."

I am all for personal opinions but when a game receives a "worst" score based on religion traditions on the concept of nudity being shameful and not reviewed properly as a whole in itself is when the review is biased.
