This list is so bad. How can you put up a game on the second spot for worst GAME if you haven't even reviewed it yet? I'm no SB fanboy but this is just jumping on the bandwagon. I thought MMORPG.com had some standards. Guess not.

I haven't really played since rothc came out. Suppose I'll have A LOT of cartel coins when I return, so the fact that a lot of cool things are starting to cost real money doesn't phase me. Honestly SWTOR is extremely awesome in my opinion. Their payment model might just be a bit misguided. All F2P games "forces" you to buy something(Convenience items), some games just hide it better than others.

You really need to add Neverwinter to this list.  Cryptic and PW have basically ruined a good game with their greed.

better wait for the TESO, too early for 2013's MMOs

"For all I know, Scarlet Blade may be one of the best free MMOs to come out in recent years.  But I’ll never really find out"

That's some professionalism displayed here. Hasn't played the game but decides it sucks anyway.

I am allowed to do that. A "professional" game journalist is not.

At least Wizardry tried, and was more innovative than just about any AAA MMORPG of the last 7 years. It shouldn't be on this list if SWTOR isn't.

    Interesting thing I noticed.

Add up how much money the companies on the good list have

Add up how much Money the companies on the bad list have

Kinda explains why a bad mmo from 2011 that just introduced possibly the worst f2p ever Is on the good mmos from 2013 list.

I just cant take someone seriously who didnt play Scarlet Blade yet put it on the "Worst List", but played SWTOR and put it on the "Best List"

Bringer of Eternal Darkness and Despair, but also a Nutritious way to start your Morning.

    Games Played: Too Many

Lol.  This cracked me up the first time they complained about Scarlet Blade.  I don't know if it is a good game or not, but the "review" they had indicated they hadn't actually played it so apparently they don't know either.

Have these people never played the Dead or Alive fighting games.  I really don't see how they are different.  Guys like boobs, if they are shallow for using boobs to sell games, so are 99% of the games out there maybe not to the same degree but they all do it just the same.

The thing that cracks me up the most is, they complain about people using boobs to sell games, while using adds from those very same companies to generate revenue for the web site.  Hypocrite much?  LMAO.

Poor DK Online is officially suspended, "on hold" now; It didn't grab me.  I can't say I found the beta for Dragons Prophet very encouraging, from the way the opening narrative as spoken and as subtitled differed wildly, while Neverwinter does have a certain atmosphere, even if it does seem to be a bit of a solo-dungeon slog.

Interesting that Scarlet Blade has provoked so much reaction here; full marks to Aeria for trying something a bit different.  It does seem to play pretty smoothly, and riding around on a motorcycle is fun.  There are echoes of the old RF Online, but probably better executed. The pricing of some items seems a bit ambitious, but hey, a new, faster motorbike is cheaper than its real-world equivalent, even if you can't always say the same for the lingerie options...

Anyway, Scarlet Blade doesn't, in theory, involve scantily-clad young ladies running around, the "arkana" are specially designed cyborg-types able to survive the post-holocaust radiation on Earth's surface, while we, their commanders, stay safely in our bunkers.  The line does blur a bit sometimes, though!  A little sexiness makes a change from all the death and destruction, after all.  Most ads for MMORPGs go down the "smiling girl with cleavage" line anyway, it seems sometimes.

    It's not out yet genius,...

It's going live soon enough this year.  And it's basically Diablo 2 with Marvel IP's.  Not really all that cutting edge.  Minimal innovation.  And mostly blah.

The only success Marvel Heroes is going to see are the Marvel fanboys (and girls) who need a game that lets them play as Marvel characters.  Otherwise I find it to be a bad joke in the MMO market.

Since we're doing correlation, care to project that same one over the entire history of MMOs?

Advertising-budget-spent is not disconnected (entirely) from 'success' for MMOs. (Nor is the correlation perfect, obviously.)

And Rob would be right! Lol.

But you did miss Neverwork... Opps! Neverwinter!

I'd even go on to add GW2 because it is but a shadow of what was promised, far to many lies were told about that game. Now we hear it's being used to "fund" Lineage 3 and any other rubbish Nexon/NCsoft want to use to nickle you with.

It seems all the new MMO's are nothing but cheap crap, so many hyped and massive amounts of money thrown at them only to be nothing but major let downs.

If the last 3 years worth of so called MMO's were a animal, you'd take it out back and shoot it!

No trials. No tricks. No traps. No EU-RP server. NO THANKS!

One thing that is very clear after reading the comments here - it's not just banner ads that Scarlet Blade spent their advertising dollars on. I'm not sure I've ever seen so many shills in one place.

"For all I know, Scarlet Blade may be one of the best free MMOs to come out in recent years.  But I’ll never really find out, because I’m too put off by the shamelessness of the whole package and the softcore anime porn it really is."

This site should seriously change editors, becouse it's losing credibility fast.

So pointing out that it's rather irrational to put a game for worst gameplay on the second spot without even playing it is shilling? Come one man, that's just grasping for straws. The guy is a professional reviewer. How can you even put out a verdict on a GAME if you haven't played it? That's what fanbois/haters do. From someone who makes a living out of this, you expect a bit more.

  • MatryoshkaMatryoshka Member UncommonPosts: 98

I played Scarlet Blade, wasn't offput by the T&A, and was entertained by the humorous dialogue. I feel like if you actually played the game past just looking at the visuals, you'd see that most of the time they tend to make the whole "scantily clad" women thing more like a comedic thing and not like a "hey we're half naked look at us do sexy things and fight stuff" kind of thing.

I'm getting really sick of people putting down games just because there are female characters showing skin in it, like even not real women should be covering themselves just to appease your weird views about the female form. And before you get all "you must just be a misogynistic man!" or something like that, I'm not, I'm a female myself. I see nothing wrong with appreciating the female form in games, just as I see nothing wrong with appreciating the male form in games, too. The way the characters are stylized makes the game more interesting to me, whether they are scantily clad or not, and I think we should stop trying to stifle artistic freedom just because someone can't be too perverted for one second just to get past the fact that there's someone there and OH MY GOD SHE HAS BREASTS AND YOU CAN LIKE TOTALLY SEE THEM. What are you, like 12?

Also, I demand you take Scarlet Blade off the list until you have finished your review of it and have played it to actually fully review it past just the visuals. Reviewing a game based solely on the visuals and putting in a list of "Worst MMOs of 2013" is just ludicrous and I don't know how you expect anyone to take any of your reviews seriously from here on out.

rrrright . . . because anyone who has anything good, or even non-negative, to say about a game you personally dislike has been either bought or brainwashed. Sigh.

The rp potential of swtor is practically nonexistent, unless you want to rp as a poorly written knock off of a movie character that flies around in a knock off their ship and spouts the same one liners over and over again. If you want an MMO that encourages proper role play, then you need to look into sandbox MMOs instead of themeparks where everyone plays the same generic hero.

    Man..

Once again, if we said half of this stuff about the games the post would get deleted and we would get warned..

meh i wouldnt class scarlet blade as a worst mmo :/ iv played it abit, ignoring the pointless sexual stuff (every npc seems to be a horny guy or a lesbo @_@) its an ok game... if you dont mind hand holding gather quests (quests can auto path you to the target required....)

graphically its not bad. im sure there are "better" mmos that could have gone in that spot for worst mmo of 2013 then SB :/

its kinda sad but i would have put EoN on there even though its not a full on mmo its more a moba.. the fact its basically vaporware now really should have given it a spot on worst mmo list lol  nothing can be worse then game going vapor

  • DataDayDataDay Member UncommonPosts: 1,538
Neverwinter belongs on that list. Easily. Hands down.

I wholeheartedly agree with your comments about Wizardry Online; it was a *huge* disappointment to me, as a fan of the original Wizardry games. With just a bit more effort, it could have been the game that all us oldsters were hoping for, but it failed miserably to entertain, let alone enthrall.
