I wish I could give you a hug bill for blasting scarlet blade. the games ads and premise are laughable. I read they are adding a male character to the game. I just he they have a "junk size" slider like saints row. :p

On the matter of Scarlet Blade, I have to agree with the reason given on the list in the first place. Yes, a lot of games use visual eye candy to get your attention, but that usually isn't the entire selling point of the game. Scarlet Blade, on the other hand, never gets past the eye candy stage, and that is the problem I see. As a hook to lead you further in, that kind of eye candy is not only generally accepted, but common; rarely, though, do the pictures in the ads directly translate into the game itself, where the tantalizing factor is still there, but significantly toned down from what you see in ads. For Scarlet Blade, not only does that kind of toning down not occur, but the appeal to that base reaction is clearly a big part of maintaining interest in their game. In the end, the game itself seems to encourage the idea of it being a soft porn, and therefore, that aspect is certainly fair game for reviewers and critics. How you present your game is just as important as the game itself, and Scarlet Blade's gameplay would have to be the best ever seen in order for most people to see past it's initial presentation as a teenage boy's fantasy.  In the end, the ads themselves don't bother me as much as the fact that the game itself presents itself in the almost exactly the same manner as the ads, which in this case is not a good thing. Sex appeal, while common, is something best used with moderation and in conjunction with actual game content if you want people to take you seriously; this game does neither, and earns it's place on the list because of that.

Maybe DayZ stole a thing or two out of here, e.g. The name and zombie stuff? it was written in 2006 BTW.

Please, don't compare War Z with a good book like WWZ, in fact, the upcoming movie this summer featuring Brad Pitt is also likely to embarrass the title.

But you are correct, we are more afraid of nudity than killing stuff, might explain all guns we have around here I suppose.

I don't like pornography, but I play Scarlet blade because I love the way the game looks, the scifi-fantasy mix. The game itself is a bit boring, mainly because of auto moving, but I definitely ain't playing it for the naked women.

As far as other games, I haven't played them, so I can't tell...

And yes, it's hypocrisy to advertise the game and then to spit on it...

I would have put Planetside 2 on this list. I haven't had a game perform that badly since Shadowbane was released. The optimization is just horrible if you are a AMD user. You can have a beast of a computer and still expect under 20 frames in combat.  It's been about 6 months since release and it hasn't gotten any better. They are down to 3 US servers and will probably be down to one by years end.

Do you guys remember when you let your userbase vote on whether Diablo 3 should be put on the site. I request that you let us users vote on whether we can take Scarlet Blade off the site. It would be nice to be able to have my computer on when my 4 year old is around without him getting an erection looking at my screen from their ads. Thanks. And no, this isn't a damned joke. It disgusts me.

Thas bullshit... this guy says scarlet blade is so bad because of its hentai theme. The game is great but he dont like hentai theme so its garbage... what a stupid review.

I am genuinely surprised of the list, not because I think they are good games, but because some games in this list had advertising on the site. Surprised in a good way.. maybe mmorpg.com doesn't sway it's scores based on cash? Not absolutely convinced yet, but this is a good start. I like it!

Why is a fps survival considered a MMO? What?

Also there is much more failure mmorpg games out there comparing to scarlet blade.

    Where is SWTOR?

This list feels very biased/opinion based. I'm not saying those games are good I'm just saying there are far worse games, yet they are not in the list XD

Breathing a sigh of relief that WorldAlpha didn't make the list! :)

Scarlet Blade did not belong on that list.

It was bug free, it had enough content to level on. Graphics were good, everything worked.

You guys didn't like the T&A so it's a crap game? How many times has a game been sold on T&A that wasn't there? These guys delivered. You need to get down off that white horse after all the money you were happy to take for the full page advertisements. Makes you look bad.

I almost, almost want to try Scarlet blade juste for the lolz after watching this video:

I think this is a pretty good list, and I strongly agree with the #1 spot going to The War Z.  I am also glad to see that some of the the writers here agree that Scarlet Blade is pretty shallow in it's sex appeal to attract players.  Tons of games do this, it's not like SB is the first, but it's the most over the top MMO.  They might as well have a signup page that says "Want to see boobs?  Fill out this form to create your account!".  There are already adult sites for that :)  I don't want that spilling over into my MMOs. I had never downloaded a ad blocker until mmorpg.com started running those ads.  Sadly it doesn't seem to block those sidebar ones, but I am still running the adblocker out of protest until I no longer see them.

    I'm also siding with this.

This list apparently doesn't take into account a number of categories that should be added. Categories such as - Games with the biggest budget yet failed -

Example: I'd put a failed MMORPG with a 300million dollar budget, A hard to screw up pre-arranged title, and enough resources at its disposal to make any company jealous before any of the titles you listed above.

There are well over 500 thousand gamers who would very much disagree with all of you about SWTOR.  It most definitely does not deserve a spot on the worst MMO list, but then again, I'm sure you're the same kind of gamer that would put WoW on there too.

I highly doubt MMORPG.com hand picks the ads.  It is most likely handled through an ad agency that MMORPG.com has a partnership with.

That being said...even if MMORPG.com does pick the ads...who cares?  They're a business, not a moral compass for the gaming universe.

Oh, and just incase you were praying for Dragons Prophet, it is another WoW clone. (CLONE as in carbon copy.)

I wish that was true, but WoW is infinitely more entertaining.

Great list. The War Z is by far the biggest pile of shit I've played in a long long time.

    I agree!

GW2 has some good points, but if you get stuck on a dead server with very few players. It is now getting to the point where I can go several days without any other guild members online!

Years ago, the term pixel perfect was coined, which means you have to do EVERYTHING exactly right or FAIL. Game makers of today seem to have forgotten this concept, especially when you enter a dungeon in GW2. Giving the monsters in dungeons super powers and millions of hit points is pathetic, instead give us more content!

Some of the pve content becomes unplayable, because it is just too dam hard, and the rest is too easy, thus boring!

That's my rant over. I must say I still play GW2, but sadly it is coming to and end, as I am close to getting my 8th char to lvl 80 (one of each class), and when I do, I feel I will lose interest in the game because of the difficulty in solo play!

What a joke of a reason to put Scarlet Blade as the number two worst game of 2013, even stating that if it was a "masterpiece" in various areas you'd still put it up there just because of their design decision. As far as I'm concerned you have zero credibility as a reviewer (if you are one) because of that extremely flawed logic.

Great so lets assume a game revolutionizes various aspects of MMOs, changes lots of things and is generally a vast improvement over what we've had in the past. If it presents itself in the way Scarlet Blade did, apparently it will nearly be THE worst game of the year (so far) to you. I don't even have words to describe how irrational that is. You don't like the way the game is presented, fantastic, then don't support it and don't recommend it to anyone but to say it is better or worse than other games without having even PLAYED it? Really? And even if you did it wouldn't even matter because you already stated it would have had zero affect on your opinion of how "good" the game is.

Scarlet Blade does none of the things mentioned above, it doesn't revolutionize anything (not that it has to) or change anything for the better. To me it's a crappy, boring, pretty dull and generic game. The only thing I can say I enjoyed about it were the graphics, mostly from spell effects, and you don't get all too many. At least I can say why it's a crappy game instead of making up some morality bullshit as an excuse for not playing it while still insisting it's one of the worst games just because I disagree with their approach.

Edited to add: Personally, I would rate Scarlet Blade the worst MMO game I've played this year, but the only others were GW2, Aion, Age of Conan and The Secret World.

I think people wanting SWTOR on this list are kinda childish. I have played plenty worse games than SWTOR this year. SWTOR lands par for the course in my books. but its no where near as bad as the onslaught of Asian Grinders and horribly programmed crap shoots that have been being released. I put it around the same level as the 101 games.

    Because i can.

I do not see how anyone could consider putting Age of Wushu up on this list.   I'm suggesting those people play single player games and stop complaining about MMOs.  Only way you could consider it bad is if you didn't interact with a guild or other players.
  • DakeruDakeru Member EpicPosts: 3,802
Scarlet Blade didn't offer anything new combat-wise but the story and dialogues were 10 times as entertaining as those of a certain AAA mmo which is going to be released soon. If you had at least put it in there because of the pvp, which could be described as joke at best. But giving it rank 2 of the worst mmos this year because of its hentai looks.. really? What kind of reviewers are you?
