Though I do want to bring up that this is very similar to when Cable companies decided to have commercials in addition to their monthly fee. Instead of people saying "No" and not putting up with it, they gave in and Cable got the double dip. The whole point of Cable TV was to get commercial free content - which is what the monthly fee was for, to support that eco-system.
I have the feeling that the same thing will happen with the whole used game thing. I'm almost certain that Sony will announce a similar used game policy. And here we're once again faced with a major push from an industry, in which something we buy is no longer ours (per the argument that you don't "own" the disc content, just the physical disc).
I do have a few concerns about the used game thing (on top of it being ridiculous).
1. When you "sell/trade" it to a friend do you have to unlink the code from your account to sell it? Or do they get their own account code? Do I get to keep my copy of the game in this case since they're paying full price anyway?
2. If you let your friend borrow a game and he decides to "purchase" his own full copy after installing the game, will he be mailed his own game disc? Or do the two of you both own separate codes for the game, but only a single disc? This is important because the onboard HDD is stuck at 500GB and Blu-ray games are quite large. Eventually you will have to uninstall something. Will it always be available for download after that?
3. Why have discs at all? Why did MS not go fully into a Steam style format and make all games downloadable and offer huge sales to offset the no used games thing? Steam doesn't offer used games, but I don't mind because come holiday time I can pick up major titles of $8-$10 each. If the X1 requires to be connected, then it stands to reason that everyone who owns one has internet access and can download games.
4. Looking back at the 360 will the X1 give us a RROD? If it does and we don't have the physical disc because we installed it from someone else's how will I recover my game? Will it be downloadable or is the key associated with the account and that particular disc's install? <- That is typically how authorization codes have worked, code matches with the disc and more recently, code has to match with the disc AND an online registry which is why we get so many stupid DRM issues when so many systems have to line up.
Why do microsoft think we want to watch movies, do skype calling, post comments on facebook while waiting for game of thrones to come on tv all on the xbox? we don't we just want to play games on it, that's all.
No I wouldn't expect it to be like running 3 copies of any iteration of windows because these are specialized OSes obviously but it's still probably take more bandwidth than o box running just one like in the past.Of course who's to say PS4 isn't doing the exact same thing so it's a moot point. But the fast switching is gonna take up some memory real estate I really can't see how it won't.I'd be more comfortable with 16G of ram but understand the xbox one has to come in at a certain manufacture cost.
There is much to wait and see on to be making any clear choice at this point we'll see how E3 clears things up...or muddies things more.
True - though it's really hard to point to how exactly these consoles will perform - not many gaming PC's have 8 GB of higher speed dedicated video memory either.
PS4 seems to have 8GB GDDR5 unified for gpu/cpu and XBO 8GB GDDR3 - but XBO has the 32MB of very fast SRAM so who knows?
And in 4 years time these consoles will still have the same specs while PC architecture will be on a totally new generation.
You install the game on this Xbox, input the key. It's yours. It's kinda like a PC game this way. You'll not need to do the disc ever again. You could chuck it in the trash. Doesn't matter. Only thing that matters is the key.
The KEY is everything. I agree with the Steam-esque idea.
The resell thing, the install thing, and then the teeny-tiny 500Gb hard drive leads me to believe they are attempting to do to Xbox what was done to PC's in the 90's. The disc is ONLY to stop you from having to DL 60Gb of game for every game.

Don't forget that 3Gb of the XBO's RAM is dedicated to the OS... so effectively 5 Gb free.
Just hope he doesn't get high blood pressure or a heart attack while filming.
This is one of the few times that I've seen Angry actually at a loss for words... ^^ It might have been better if he hadn't been totally hammered by being awake so long.

WE pale face?... ^^ Gamers, perhaps, but the "always connected, yapping on FacePalm, or their phones, or texting crowd" are going to eat this up with a spoon. Not to mention the endless legions of TV Zombies, that can't get enough of various sports, Reality TV and other such brain rotting nonsense. ^^
Due to frequent travel in my youth, English isn't something I consider my primary language (and thus I obtained quirky ways of writing). German and French were always easier for me despite my family being U.S. citizens for over a century. Spanish I learned as a requirement in school, Japanese and Korean I acquired for my youthful desire of anime and gaming (and also work now). I only debate in English to help me work with it (and limit things). In addition, I'm not smart enough to remain fluent in everything and typically need exposure to get in the groove of things again if I haven't heard it in a while. If you understand Mandarin, I know a little, but it has actually been a challenge and could use some help.
Also, I thoroughly enjoy debates and have accounts on over a dozen sites for this. If you wish to engage in such, please put effort in a post and provide sources -- I will then do the same with what I already wrote (if I didn't) as well as with my responses to your own. Expanding my information on a subject makes my stance either change or strengthen the next time I speak of it or write a thesis. Allow me to thank you sincerely for your time.
After the new information about Xbox One, will you buy it?
Of course not. It does not appeal to me at all... already can watch TV via SaT, HDTV and over the NeT. Don´t think i need to get me one, who gives a s--t about the fantasy league app ?
Watch TV and browse the net... great idea. And the "mini" glympse about games.. were not very good looking, i bet the 360 could handle that as well (Ghost).
The consoles fucking up is only good new for PC gaming. Again why the fuck show off how the xbox gaming console can watch tv in new and different way? are these people for real? do they know what the fuck they are doing? i don't give a shit about a halo mini series, fuck off spielberg you douche. Show me the next generation of gaming, not fucking TV!!!!
Why browse, Skype or Facebook on your PC, Tablet etc. for free when you can pay M$ monthly to do the same thing. Cant lend or sell the used games you legally purchased unless you pay a fee? Next thing you know General Motor's will want a fee if I buy a used car.
Talk with you wallets people.
Time to show these Bozo's that we ain't as dumb as they think we are.
The next Gen Xbox One a "2nd remote control" replacement kit, that will be able to send M$ hidden information, about what you like to game, watch or talk via Skype, let them sniff the box every 24h without your consent, so they can sell that data and make a small profit elsewhere.
Remember the console will have 3x always on Operating Systems... 3GB reserved for that, don´t you think they would add a small app in the background just for that purpose? No? Because i totally would do that...

Don't forget the always on Kinect listening into everything you say so they can data mine it.
People will buy it anyway, even if it asked you to sacrifice your first born child to power up the console, people would still accept it. I sometimes wonder are all the people on this planet real people or are some just programmed consumers....
I really don't understand why so many people feel like Microsoft screwed something up here. I did not own the Xbox or the Xbox 360. I have owned PS, PS2, Gamecube, PS3, and Wii, and after seeing Microsoft's presentation, I have to say that I would definitely consider going with the Xbox One.
I know a lot of you didn't like what you saw, but I was pretty impressed. Sony is really going to have to show me something awesome.
I'm just waiting for a F2P overhyped sandbox WoW clone with full PVP, epic raid bosses, instanced group content, and Crysis-quality graphics to come out. That, or something fun.
You guys do not see the plus side at all MS said the install fee for used titles will be $6.99 Meaning your buds can come over with their titles and your able to install games for $7 bucks.. How is paying 34.99 for a used madden title better then spending 6.99 to install a game.. It says it installs the license to the game for 1 year for used titles after that you can renew it. So think about it 6.99 for a year thats 12 bucks in 2 years 18 in 3 years still not as much as gamestops 34.99 for B rated titles like the amazing spider man that was voted one of the worst games of 2011 is still right now 25 bucks at gamestop.. No thanks.
Xbox already said you wont need the disks if the game is installed so there ya go....why cry about it.

That's not at all what MS said. I posted a quote and link earlier. To install a used game it will cost the full price of that game.
