[Column] World of Warcraft: A Deep Look at Patch 5.3

SBFordSBFord Former Associate EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 33,129

The next World of Warcraft patch is looming large on the horizon with tons of new information released about it recently. In our latest WoW Factor, we take a deeper look at what v5.3: Escalation will mean for players. Check it out and then leave us your thoughts about the next update in the comments.

Whether you fight for the Alliance or the Horde the objective for both factions remains the same: Remove Garrosh from his seat of power in Orgrimmar. The Barrens in Kalimdor serve as the focus of a new set of daily and weekly quests where those who have not sided with Garrosh will make preparations for the inevitable assault on the heavily fortified Horde city. In the Northern Barrens, a weekly quest will have players hunting for four different resources: oil, wood, meat and stone. These resources can be found in various locations including the Caravan Escort missions that I discussed in my last 5.3 preview article

Have to agree with TPS; the butchering of the skill tree and generalized 'simplification' just did me in, ticked me off -- no loyalty us longtimers; expansion is  good news for those sticking with it and hope they enjoy it, but I won't go back, even for the chance to kill Garrosh.

Same here. Nothing in this patch to make me even consider coming back.

While the Idea of Skipping rope with his intestines does have some allure to me. My money will forever stay away from that game.

    Because i can.

Guess what pal, you were new at one point also. It's people like this that ruin a gaming community by degrading other players.

Nice I guess they are trying to give a more 'dynamic' feel with things but yeah, pretty much same opinion as everyone else. General dumbing down of the game combined with it becoming dated and having superior options out there (Rift as an example) its just not a game worth playing. The patch does nothing at all to spark interest sadly. Its a real shame that nostalgia that usually works for other games just has no effect on wow. It killed itself to me and my desire to play it like other MMos I use to play. Hell, Runescape managed to draw me back (though very very very brief) far better then this.

Still got 2 friends playing WoW and they are at the brink of saying goodbye to Blizzard.
We where stuck on a death server for 2 years and tried to make the best of it untill i called it quits.
They payed for transfers and a /who showed a total of 29 players on at prime time on a server that was high not to long ago.

Blizzard created this problem with payed tranfer but give the finger to players stuck on dead realms...
Wich is why ALOT of people say fuck this and unsub.

No patch or Xpac will change the fact that WoW aint a mmo anynmore, just a lobby game.
Let this mmo die out or go FtP.
Most players are from asia anyway who pay 5 cent per hour.

I heared Blizzard is making a new plan now to assist dead realms ?
Maybe they see the damage they have done in the past years ?
I hope so at least, WoW always had a special place, But Blizzards greed did not know the limit, lets hope they ahve seen the light.
D3/WoW are in rapid decline, forge the iron when its hot is all i want to say.

They nerfed fire mages and I really loved my fire mage.

    Ba$+@rd$ - I can't believe they did this.

I no longer enjoy the gameplay.

Love the title of the article, a "deep" look at patch 5.3.  A new BG and xp from level 85-90 reduced by 33%.  That's DEEP man !

check wow forums. many servers are dead and ppl shouting for a solution. 2 years now blizz do nothing. only panning solutions saying that they are aware of the problem...

i m an 8 years wow player and in this forum i have defended many times wow, but not anymore. i m playing in an almost dead server and blizz does nothing. i m not willing to pay 20 euros for a single char transfer, leaving all my toons back, or 200 euros for my whole account. thats enough.

so i canceled a few days ago my sub and jumped to RIFT, with many rl friends and guild mates. took raptr reward (game + exp + 30 days game time) and we are having great fun. great game indeed.

after 12-6 that turns f2p many more of our friends will join us.

so goodbye once for all greedy blizzard

To me, the single strangest decision of the patch was to gate the solo open-world content of the patch with a group scenario.

  • NephaeriusNephaerius Member UncommonPosts: 1,671
Really would love to take a look at the new content, but for me re-subbing to a game is even less likely than subbing the first place.  Although I will say Blizzard has always been kind with free time when asked nicely.

Why is it that every WoW article brings in the "WoW sucks" crowd. If you don't like the game, don't comment. Nobody gives a damn if you don't like the game. All you are doing sharing your negative vibes.

Nope. I understand the word just fine. My question is more about what is it that just DRIVES the haters to go out of their way to post negative comments in a game they no longer or never did play. The story has nothing to do with "hey, do you like wow?" yet the first dozen posts are people proclaiming why they feel that WoW is bad and why they quit.

A lot of posts here really aren't negative vibes, more or less constructive criticism and reasons why most players left the game.

I for one still have a few months on my six month sub left but I find really hard to log back on.  Questing has been fun and its refreshing that the gap between 85 and 90 is closed.  But after PVPIng my head off in the BG's theres not a lot left for me at end level, just heroics and raid finder, maybe a raider will get sick and I take his spot time to time but for me its just best to remember the good times I had playing the game and stop trying to force myself back on in a futile attempt to create more of those memories

To those that are excited Im glad, the story line seems pretty interesting and Im sure there's a lot of fans to do.  I've always said WoW was good at what it did and I don't see them stopping that anytime soon.

Playing: TSW, D&D NW, Defiance (more the tv show than game >.> ) LotRO, DCUO

What do you think the quotation marks he used around the word noob signify?

"The other benefit to this change is that it allows players who are mainly geared with PvE items to have the opportunity to be viable in PvP situations."

What about the reverse situation? Can players who wear only PvP armor be viable in PvE? When I play WoW, I only PvP. But perhaps there will come a time where I want to PvE. Will I start way behind the curve with my PvP armor? (Unlike the PvE'ers who suddenly decide to PvP and will do just fine)

They can adjust a game all day, but they can't help the issue between the keyboard and the chair.
Played: UO, DAoC, AC, WoW, EVE, TR, WAR, Aion, Rift, SWTOR, GW2, TSW, ESO, Elite:D

    Noob != newbie

You can be playing the game for 5 years and still be a total noob.

Newbie is someone who is simply new to the game, he isn't automatically a noob because of that.

I'm sorry to say but people who doesn't understand simple gaming terminology are the ones who ruin gaming community.

Also I agree with person you quoted - I don't like that WoW is becoming more and more NOOB friendly aswell.

If anything will make the rage crew come back it will be in the next expansion, 5.3 and 5.4 will not grab your interest so until then there is no need to place such comments in this forum.  However maybe 5.4 will now that im thinking about it, because there is that "big un-announced feature" coming.
